Oh, yeah. I forgot to bring that up.

Now that you guys have played a full round of Mafia without talking to each other outside the game, I hope you can see what a big difference it has made.

If you really think about the way this game went down, and try to factor in what would have happened if outside discussion had been allowed, I think you'd see just how lame it would have been. No suspense, no uncertainty, etc. It's that unknown factor, that inability to contact others and confirm your own suspicions that makes Mafia interesting.

Yeah yeah, you can argue that Mafia could always use outside discussion to trick townies, but I don't think that argument really flies. Why? Cause Townies by their very nature (being innocent and all) have nothing to hide. It's easy to collaborate with other people if you have nothing to hide. Y'all talk amongst yourselves to find out who the cop is, who the doctor is, plan out which power roles should do what for the town each night, etc. And it's all fine and dandy for yourselves. But the chances of Mafia winning a game that allows outside discussion would be extremely small. And games really should be balanced if they're to be any good at all.

Even though I was brutally killed in the first night, I enjoyed reading the thread. I felt the suspence just READING it! xD But yeah, that was a good game, even though I never played in it.

Looking forward to the next one! ;D

I still disagree and you assume that the town people will not accidently recruit a mafia.

    Big surprise. :rolleyes2

I really like it when all the action is in the thread. It provides for added strategy and allows for everyone to know what's going on. If you are not a part of these 'town cliques' then you are not going to enjoy the game because the thread won't make sense to you.

This is my first time playing Mafia all the way through so I dunno what it's like to have outside discussion, but people are saying that this was the best game of Mafia ever so I'm guessing it's better this way. xP

If you really thought about the dynamics of this game (think about the roles of doctor and cop and how they're played in this game), and how outside discussion would impact it, I think you'd realize just how DRASTICALLY having the option to selectively and privately talk to other players changes the game. If you get to do that, it's not even the same game anymore, the dynamics change so much.

Yeah, I'm not gonna deny that it might be fun and interesting the other way, but at that point you're not even playing Mafia anymore. *shrugs*

    This is what Mafia is.

I think it was infinitely better with no outside discussion. Discussing things is part of what gives the mafia their strength. That's why there's a town power role in the mason. It's a special skill. You let everyone do that and you're just going to see the mafia get raped like in the Disney game.

Or I guess you could give the townies no power roles and then give the mafia a lot more people. That would be fair then. But I don't think it would be as fun.

I'm frightened that it'll be too fast. It might just fall flat on its face with all the crazy that will be going on. But we'll see.

The reason why the first mafia game that included outside discussion wasn't so bad was because not everyone thought of it. DK used it well because most players were new to the game and didn't know any better. But once they did, the town realized their advantage and Disney Mafia was the result. I'm not saying that all games will be like Disney Mafia if they involve outside talk (because the mafia really sucked in that game), but they won't be as interesting, and I guarantee the mafia will never win (unless you have something silly like 8 mafia or something).

The Disney mafia went wrong because all of us mafia didn't work as a team and screwed each other out of it.

Cinderella screwed Alice over and then I bummed out when I tried to help Triton and Winnie the pooh was too quiet so he got lynched later on.

Cindy didn't screw Alice over xD Cindy did the best thing for the mafia. Dale and Triton (whoever those were) being the first ones to vote screwed everyone over Plus not enough Mafia members voted for their own.

Anyway, both ways of playing Mafia were fun to me ^_^ I don't mind whatever it is.

It still makes me mad how you all give joy the credit for the disney one >:/ She had no idea what to do until I came along.

I can understand how the less popular members would get screwed with the outside talk. They would have a problem with the discussion just cause they have no friends. To fix that, quit being so noobish and make friends already!

I liked it this way. Plus I knew all that went through clouts head That was grand. I was giggling like no other when people would speculate things.

No out side discussion is better, I think. This last game is really how mafia is supposed to be played.

I played this game for the first time, and I have to admit I would have prefered not to be a naive cop sure it's not a stupid role and heck until Hsu I was pretty sure I was the normal cop but I'm definitely with Del and Miriel all the action in the thread, even when I figured out Psy was playing Crono we didn't discuss the actions in the game outside we just laughed over events and how we were both starting to get really in to it and paranoid. Had I been a normal cop I reckon I'd have done a good job of being a cop because I was giving hints all the way through hindsight they were very blatant, but the mafia never seemed to catch on until crono started discussing it with the rest of the guys.
