Default There are so many things I wish I knew.

I hate not knowing everything. And the fact that I never will know everything.

Right now I'm reading up on Norse mythology (for fun), and it's depressing how little I know about these fantastic stories. And how many things I see and hear on a daily basis that are linked to them. I'd see them even more if I played more Final Fantasy too!

Anyway, tell me something you've learned recently. Or link a page of info. about things that you find interesting. Or tell us stuff that you like researching even though you don't have to for lessons or work or anything - you just really want to know.

Five of the days of the week are named after Norse gods! How cool is that?

I agree with you completely, this thread ought to be pretty fantastical.

Unfortunately, I have nothing interesting to offer atm, but as soon as something piques my interest BAM! I'll post it like a NINJA.

edit: Actually, just in case you didn't know, in the old testament God split the Babylonians up by giving them all different languages so that they couldn't understand one another, because they were squabbling when they were trying to build the Tower of Babylon (which was, of course, supposed to be a tower reaching all the way to heaven). That's how the different languages were formed according to the old testament.

double edit: I think it's the moon: actually, i have no idea what tuesday is, i'll have to look that up: Odin: Thor: Freya: Saturn (who's Roman, obviously): and then just the sun. Or something to do with Jebus or something.

I'm very fascinated by islands, so today I've been reading up on and seen pictures of the Orkneys, Jersey and the Falklands.

    I dig Old Manus' Betelgeuse.

I've been watching a lot of Animal Planet recently and yesterday while I was watching the Jungle episode I learned about a particular fungi known as Cordyceps fungus. Thisa fungi, when mature, releases a highly infective spore into the air where it is picked up by insects. The funus infects the insect, taking over its motor and neurological pathways which causes the insect to move to higher grounds. The fungus then feeds on the insect as it dies and decays and matures to eventually release spores thus continuing the cycle. Each fungul species specializes on a specific insect species and has been known to wipe out entire colonies.

    Boldly go.

I recently read the book The Price of Admission : How America's Ruling Class Buys Its Way into Elite Colleges - and Who Gets Left Outside the Gates and learned a lot about the college admissions process. It really was a great read.

In general, I'm fascinated by social structures and inequality. Especially living in America, things like race, poverty, gangs, etc, are really prevalent in our society. So just learning about the root of all these things is really interesting to me. Especially since most of the time, popular conceptions of these things are vastly different from the reality or truth of the matter.

I learned that platonic love can exist between two grown men.
You hold my heart in your manly hands I wanna feel the throb of your handsome gland. I wanna hold you tight like a newborn kitten, against my flesh like a cashmere mitten. Tickly tick, I'm makin' skin bump heaven and all the way down it's lookin' cleanly shaven. Prickety pricks, it's stubble on stubble I better slow down or I'm in real trouble. Want you, touch you, feel you, taste you! Knick knack whacky whack 'till I see the man stew. spin you around let me see that hole! I'm a tunnelin' in a like a short hair mole. Once I'm inside I'm gonna leave a trace, half in there and half on that face! One finger, two finger, there fingers gone! Mano a mano I love you John!

I'm a mythology nerd too, Quin.

Today I learned.... uh, nothing new. But the other day I read the first Harry Potter book in French. The French word for "Hufflepuff" is "Poufflesouf", how cute is that???

This makes me think of the Morgan Freeman's character in The Bucket List.
