This is the first I've heard of her. I probably wouldn't go looking for her music. Not saying she's bad, she sounded nice, it's just that's not the style of music I like.
I got a CD and listened once and though, 'Ok, that was kind of weird.'
A few months later I listened again. And again. And again.
There aren't words that describe how much this girl grows on you. She's spectacular.
Someone introduced her to me like....3 or 4 years ago. And yeah, I agree that she really does grow on you. I think I have all of her stuff, and I pretty much enjoy it all. She's so different from what I normally listen to, so every time I choose to it's always refreshing, and relaxing.
Of course, whenever I listen to her while other people are around I always get the WHOA WHAT THE HELL IS THIS GAY <img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /><img src="http://forums.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/rpg_009.gif" alt="skull" /> WHAT'S WRONG WITH HER VOICE HUR HUR. *Sigh*
Pretty much my favourite contemporary artist. (Bob Dylan doesn't count as contemporary, right? Right.)

edit: something about her voice just weirds me out and amazes me at the same time.
Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant. I have both her albums, and she really is great. I think she has a gorgeous voice. I must listen to Ys again later today to remind myself how good it is. That bit in Only Skin where Bill Callahan's vocals join hers...
I've seen her at the Royal Albert Hall as well and that was really good.

She is really unique, and as other people have noted her voice totally grows on you. The first time I heard her I was like "what in die hyell?" But I was intrigued and had to listen again, and again, and the first song I heard was Sawdust and Diamonds which is such an epic song. Not many 4 minute songs can hold my interest, but Sawdust and Diamonds clocks in at over 9 minutes and I just HAVE to listen to the whole song every time.Originally Posted by Moon Rabbits

Ys is a solid album. Though one time I had it playing in my car and my friend said, "Holy crap, she sounds like Lisa Simpson".
Now I can't unhear it.
