MIA sticks middle finger up at camera during Super Bowl halftime show

I didn't notice it last night, but further examination of the footage reveals that British female rapper MIA apparently stuck up her middle finger at the camera during her performance with Madonna (also featuring Nicki Minaj, Cee Lo Green, and LMFAO) at the Super Bowl halftime show last night. I thought it was a great show, but when I saw the footage upon closer examination, I was shocked and disgusted at it. Her actions were tasteless and classless, and I think that instead of fining NBC and the NFL for her actions, they should fine the artist herself to make these artists accountable for their actions, especially on live TV.

The blame during the Janet Jackson fiasco cannot be compared with the current outcry (which is dumb) over MIA's actions, as one was clearly intentional and the other one was not. The entire thing, both situations, are silly and fines by the FCC for something as dumb as this are nothing more than the FCC caving to pressure by "Family Groups" who think they actually stand for something.

I wouldn't call her a "flavour of the moment". She's been pretty consistently popular for a few years now, although she's definitely on the way out IMO.

But yeah, total non-issue. The only real issue here is how over reactionary and oversensitive NBC/NFL/FCC seem to be over this, and its implications for whatever entertainment they end up picking for the next Superbowl.

Bunny is correct that this is pretty much a non-issue. First of all, you did initially say that you haven't noticed it right away while watching. Most likely many people were just the same. The finger went by unnoticed by many, unlike the wardrobe malfunction Janet Jackson had. That was so noticeable, it was the most TiVo'd moment in TV history. True story bro.

If anything, I'm sure MIA may get fined for this. Anything else? Just leave it alone. Who cares.

Why does anyone care? Did anyone actually watch the friggen half time show? Does the NFL only want 14 year olds watching their sporting events??? After watching the opening act for the Pro Bowl and the halftime show of the Super Bowl I'd say yes they are expecting the crowd to mainly be 14 year old girls.
