Thread: Basch's Potholder of DOOOM

    Default Basch's Potholder of DOOOM

This is a totally silly thread.

Just in case you hadn't encountered this page before, I wanted to recommend to you the following essay on...

The Fashion Disaster That is Basch in FFXII

I find that page one of the funnier contributions to fandom I've seen in a while.

You'll never see costumes in FFXII -- or any FF game -- quite the same way again.

    Battle thongs. I'm tellin' ya.

Vaan just has that weird scarab thing that looks like a Babylon 5 parasite stuck to the base of his spine.

    And weird abs.

There's not as much you can do with that as you can potholders and battle wedgies.

Basch's outfit never really bothered me. Outside of the questionable outfits worn by the female members of the cast I felt most of the costume designs were pretty good and nothing more bizarre than what came out of FFX....

I have to agree. I'd wear Basch's potholder shirt over Wakka's stupid overall anytime.

    xD Terrific stuff!

Perhaps the most outlandishly impractical FF garb, for me, is Tidus' blitball uniform.

Metal armour? Check. Long wallet chain? Check. Hooded shirt? Check.
With those powers combined, you'd have someone who'd sink like a stone. Even if he could manage to keep afloat, the dopey and useless hood would act like an underwater parachute, to keep him in one place.

Now, I'm all in favour of creative and imaginative character and costume designs - but the FF series really ought to get input from people who understand practicality and combat.

That was definitely entertaining. But I must agree, his is not the worst of the outfits in the series. Many of them should be useless and difficult to move in, but fantasy laws rule supreme.

To be honest, I think Tidus' boots could've been heavier. :evilking:

The festive potholder makes the ensemble, man. It reminds me of all the curious baubles and accessories Amano includes in his designs (but not the dumb, head-slapping ones Nomura includes in his).

Granted, this was Yoshida's design for Basch when he was still to be the game's main character, before the executive meddling came in:

Phwoar There's much more a Vagrant Story-esque feel to that one.

Looking at in-game Basch's potholder, it seems like a piece of padding for that lone spaulder he's got on his left shoulder. Which could make Basch the first-ever FF character to acknowledge the importance of not simply strapping steel plate onto bare skin. I weep for Ashe's arms and legs sometimes...

Though I'm probably a bit spoiled through my experience with historical clothing, armour and combat.

:edit: Apparently this is some of Yoshida's actual artwork for Ashe and Basch. Interesting.

Aside from the potholder, I'm suprised he didn't touch on the three belts he has on the inside of his vest. I'd have like to see how exactly that would have worked if he used those belts.

......okay then, Basch with no shirt and Ashe in her pants together frolocking in the water, Now thats a totally appropriate Princess/Knight situation. lol. Can see why she "misses him" now .

I really disliked Basch's outfit. The potholder was only part of it, though. The whole thing, including his inability to shave or have even a semi neat hairstyle, was just too untidy. He was a military man for most of his life, wasn't he? Where the heck was his self discipline?
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.

He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.

how bout being wrongly locked up for three years and being pretty cool and chipper with it and then being greeted by his princess with a nice sturdy slap and not yelling at her.
