Thread: Cheesy vs edgy musical mashups!

  1. #1

Default Cheesy vs edgy musical mashups!

I tend to notice that when you put a cheesy music act (such as bubblegum pop stars) up against an edgy act (such as gritty rock bands), most of you will most likely like the edgy act better. But what about when you mash their music together? Here's an example for you:

YouTube - Linkin Park ft. Miley Cyrus - Party.Of.Authority (mashup)

That's right: It's "Points of Authority" by Linkin Park mashed up with "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus. In a rather strange way, I actually think it's pretty cool. What about you? And do you have any other "cheesy-vs-edgy" mashups that you like? If so, post 'em here!

Eh. I like mash-ups a lot of the time but those two songs in particular don't really mesh that well.

The person that created that musical abomination deserves a fate worse than death. I hate that Miley Cyrus song, god I hate Miley Cyrus but that mash up made her voice so painful I almost vomited all over my laptop

No need to be so demonically hateful.

And that Rammstein vs Cookie Monster mashup was quite amusing.

And this just confirms my hunch that the majority of you like edgy, gritty music over cheesy, bubblegum music.

Depends entirely on the situation. I enjoy listening to most music, so if I'm just sitting listening to music anything is good. But when it comes to dancing I would much rather have some cheesy bouncy music, it's entirely more enjoyable to dance to. For me at least.
Mash ups can be good. A fairly enjoyable one I heard was Lily Allen/The Cure. It was surprisingly listenable. I'll see if I can find it.

Good for you, Shauna. When you find that mashup, show it to us.

Mashups are indispensable for any serious party scene. I will now plug some of the best mashups around. I know which mashups are the best from the pixels and from seeing quite a few mashups in my time.

YouTube - Testarossas For Everyone! - Super Mash Bros

YouTube - I Wanna Know Now - Xaphoon Jones Remix (MGMT & Bob Marley) <---this could very well be the best of the bunch

If you like have ever enjoyed Zelda in your lifetime, you would be doing yourself a service by listening to the following:

YouTube - Team Teamwork - The Ocarina of Rhyme: Clipse - Virginia (Lost Woods)

YouTube - Slim Thug & Mike Jones - Still Tippin' (Great Fairy's Fountain mix)

YouTube - Team teamwork-busta rhymes-dont touch me (Gerudo valley)

The Ocarina of Rhyme is seriously divine.

oh and btdubs, this is clearly the best mashup involving miley cyrus.

Personally, the music I don't like is anything involving severe profanity, although I can still tolerate milder words such as damn. Then again, I would still rather not have any swear worlds in the lyrics at all.

ITRP, the majority of the mashups you posted contained severe language. In their first two albums, Linkin Park didn't curse; they only started on their third album, and was only limited to just three songs on the album. I hope they drop the cursing on their next album (or at least change the lyrics a little bit like I've seen Avril Lavigne and Simple Plan do on their most recent albums). Please try to find less-profane mashups, and for mashups that do contain explicit language, warn me; I do not like to hear explicit language in music.
