For good reason, then. Well, embedded videos don't start automatically, right? Ok, so it wouldn't be too bad. Though that means it wouldn't really be any more effort just clicking on a link.
On the one hand, Rantzien says we should have a youtube tag. On the other hand, so does Aaron Freed. What do we do?!
The "refuse to do anything Aaron suggests" rule is a proud tradition of EoFF dating back years. It must not be broken.
the real reason was because shlup kept capitalizing my nick
and I'm pretty sure we've done something that he suggested! if only because that was an argument used against it
eoff staff have done plenty of things I've suggested. Of course, it's debatable whether they ever did any of them promptly; I'd have to go back and look because my memory ise, but an educated guess says probably not.
And yeah, you have to click on an embedded video for it to start loading.

I prefer links. I've seen message boards that allow embedding and they end up full of YouTube crap everywhere, pretty ugly.

You could always make the youtube tag a click to expand sort of thing like spoiler tags are, or else put in an option to display them in-thread or not. Plus most boards I've seen that have youtube tags enabled don't end up with many of them in many threads; maybe there's a dedicated YouTube thread and that's it.
