There are mini-bosses leading up to Sif? You can fight Sif as the very first boss in the game with almost no opposition, provided you know how to dash & roll.

I don't dash & roll. I fight everything in the way (obsessively?), and the great felines are a pain in my ass. I count them as mini-bosses simply because of their difficulty compared to Sif's.

Those cats are not to be underestimated. I've only fought them once. Never again, I've always taken the other route. They're a Forest Hunter's best friends when it comes to beating gankers in the forest though

Sif was challenging at first and if you don't go defensive and bait the 3-hit combo he can still catch you by surprise. Sif is one of those bosses though whose difficulty is immensely determined by at what point you fight him.

Artorias is one of my favourites for sure! All the Oolacile bosses rank among my favourites actually. Such good DLC.

Two runs down and I've not seen a single cat. But with my newest character I got sif with a crystal soul spear or three and he went down.

I've never done a run that went any path other than straight through cat alley. For that matter, though, I tend to zone-clear even when there's no good reason to do so.

The cats are found on the route leading up from the ladder in Darkroot Basin where the Hydra is. It's an alternate way to enter the Darkroot Forest without having to use (and buy) the Crest of Artorias. Could save you 20000 souls, but you get to meet the evil kitties in return ;D

So I just purchased the Artorias of the Abyss DLC. I have heard really good things about it, so I'm stoked. Probably going to roll a fresh character to experience it, any suggestions? I was thinking of doing a fairly low level build focused around the great scythe, but I haven't decided yet.

The Great Scythe remains my absolute favourite weapon ever. Buff builds work particularly devastatingly with it, but if you wanna keep at a low level, then the elemental upgrade paths are still very decent.
