My netbook and desktop would explode if I tried having 160 tabs open at one time.

I haven't really kept track, but I probably have between 3-8 tabs open at most times while browsing. I have six open right now. I don't like having too many open, so I'll start to close older ones when I get up to about 10 or 12.

To be fair, I leave tabs open forever without closing them even if I'm done and I usually scroll through the ones I'm not using so fast that I honestly had no idea it was so high. 160 tabs is surprisingly not as many as you'd think when you scroll through at high speed looking for the one you want. Incidentally, I'd say I know the sites that most of them are open to and in what order off by heart.

Some people might get confused with so many tabs open, but I know where everything I need is all of the time.

EDIT: I should mention too that I have Firefox set to not load tabs until I click on them when I start it up so my RAM usage is never very high. Maybe 200-300MB. Out of curiosity I just loaded every tab to see what it would jump to. Apparently the answer is around 1.6GB. Good thing I've got 8GB to go around I guess (not that it would ever be needed for it).

I have a serious problem with opening far more tabs than is healthy for my computer, for mostly the same reasons as Vivi listed. I probably have over fifty tabs open right now, and would have over a hundred except I just closed a bunch of them. It gets to the point where closing them all at once causes Chrome to lag for several seconds or even minutes.

I believe they set that to default as of the last update. So it may already be checked. Just a warning!

43.75 Maxed out Browsers of Chrome, 68 firefox tabs. I have no idea how many that is total, but the war is on. I can name most of the tabs as well.

It really depends on what I'm doing with my browser at the time. The tabs I have open tend to be anywhere between 20 and 60 particularly if I'm doing university related stuff and have to check out various net pages and EBSCOhost links or if I'm looking for inspiration for tGA posts and other creative writing.

Amended: the statement I made earlier was because I accidentally opened all my youtube videos up at the same time due to a click and drag incedent. the firefox was for memebase.

It varies from day to day.. sometimes only 2 other times like 10-15.
