A lot of people haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate her. I thought I was in the minority with this, but a lot of people seem to agree. And if Bunny says it's right, it's right.

Sansa gets significantly better as the series goes along. The problem with her for the early books is that she is mostly used as a point of view through which Martin tells what more interesting people are doing while she passively observes. She's always being led around by one character or another. That said, given whose company she has kept throughout the series, she's shaping up to be a deft player in of the game of thrones by the end of the series. She only stands to continue to get better.

I know the books are the books and all, but I think for this thing we should go with the TV series since that's what most of the people here know.

I thought it's mainly the TV fans who hate her, since they're well... behind compared to the book fans who read ahead. Not all, of course.
