    Default The Robin Hood Conundrum

I had a homeless man come into my restaurant last night to buy some food but we had turned off all the cookers so he bought 2 cookies instead. I was feeling quite epathetic so I technically stole 2 cookies to give him a few extra. I know stealing is wrong but I don't feel bad over a few cookies we are likely to toss anyways. I felt worse I couldn't offer him something more of nutritious value.

Have you ever done a little bad for a little good?

Did you feel a moral dilemma for acting immorally for a moral good?

You should just give the money for the cookies to work and then you wont have any guilt anymore.

I would feel more guilty throwing away food knowing hungry people could eat than I ever would feel stealing food for a hungry person.

I think if I had to I would steal to feed someone, but I'm not so destitute that I would need to steal. I probably would have told the guy to stick around and I'd buy him dinner or something. I would most definitely feel remorseful for stealing though as I know it's wrong even with the best of intentions.

You literally may have helped keep a man alive and you think there's a moral dilemma here?

    I said "I didn't feel bad"

The question was if -you- ever did something bad for a good reason and if -you- had a moral dilemma because of it. I couldn't give two arses about a few cookies x) and I didn't lose any sleep over it.

    Boldly go.

I'm a terrible person. I never refill the automats at work, if I see they're empty. I do however offer to share.

I've never been in a position that I had to steal but when I had it to spare I always gave when asked of me, it happened quite a bit when I worked in downtown Clarksville.

As for the question, yeah I wouldn't have any problem going against 'good' and stealing to feed someone or my own family. When it comes to life or death versus a corporation's, or even a small business owner's, small-time profit I would choose life every damn time.

Because I'm one hell of a butler.

I've had to steal food in the past otherwise I wouldn't have been able to eat. I don't feel bad about it. Someone once told me I should because stealing is wrong, but I mean, it's not because I did it to be like, whooo stealing, yeah I'm so cool, such a rush. I needed food.

Depends on what level we're talking. Stealing money from a company? Yeah, I'd take issue with doing that.

Giving someone food we're going to toss eventually anyways? No, no issue.

I'm such a goody-two shoes. I took an extra waterbottle from work because I lost mine first one and I still feel twinges of guilt over it.

You did the right thing. The guy was hungry and you fed him. There is no real moral dilemma here, imo. Good should be about results, not necessarily the actions in and of themselves.
