I'm honestly not sure if I played NFS2, but if I did sadly it will not be on this list. There are only a few more games on this list that have any kind of racing theme and none of them will be in the top 40. Racing games aren't the kind of games I play all too often and, as you can see by the ones I've mentioned in this list so far, they tend to need more than outright racing. Destruction Derby, Road Rash II, NFSIII. All so far have the ability to bugger up your opponents in some way, and that theme will continue.
Bow before the mighty Javoo!
Destruction Derby was awesome back in the day. I don't remember a lot about the game itself, but I do remember that I really liked it.
Need for Speed 3 is another pretty awesome game that I spent a fair amount of hours playing back when it was new.
Do you lie about your age in your profile BoB?
Seriously BoB, Jiro is younger than me.
I thought Jiro was like... 16...
Seriously.
xD
I genuinely thought that was Proto for some reason xD ahaha

I remember Destruction Derby! I didn't play it much, but yes, the racing part was not what the game was for.
Need for Speed III was actually the racing game I played the most on the PS1, and I think is the first of BoB's list that would have almost certainly been in my top 100 too. My friends and I played that thing for hours. We even found cheat codes to unlock some ridiculously fancy and fast cars and enjoyed absolutely blazing through the different areas. I think NFSIII was the first in the series to introduce the cops, and that added an additional fun level of gameplay over your typical PS1 racing game. I never played much more of the series after that, though I did play a bit of a more recent version on a friend's PS3 a couple of years ago, which was pretty fun.
Pike: were you talking about NFSII or NFS: Hot Pursuit 2? I don't think I ever really played either, but they are different games.
One of my fondest gaming memories was from DD2.
There was an absolutely TITANIC crash involved probably 80% of the cars on the track on some race or other. I noticed some car was hilariously spinning around like a top, balanced on its front, but I was trying to navigate the wreckage and get back in the race so I paid it no more mind.
Until a lap later, when I came to the same place - and found the car was still spinning in place.
Best bug.
I also see Pike and I share NFS taste because 2 was the best in the series, largely because of all the insane cheat vehicles that were in it. Racing as a fallen log? A t-rex? An old-timey wagon? Get in.
The only Need for Speed I've ever played was Most Wanted, which was fun. I have always wanted to play Hot Pursuit 2.
