Yeah I'm mad it's here as well. But at least it's pretty low and there's obviously going to be more than one FF higher than this one!
I predict that none of them will be FFX though!
Yeah I can tell you right now FFX is not going to be on this list. Still not the worst FF I've played though.

Well I think you've reached the first problem with Neo's list, where you list a great game and find a good place for it on your rankings, but it's so high that there's literally dozens of games where we have to question if you really think they're better than FFIX.
FFIX could be a candidate for best game of all time for me, but the 4 or 5 FF's it's sandwiched between were all more innovative and refreshing.

I think if I had played FFIX earlier than I might have perhaps enjoyed it more, but instead I'd read half the story in various posts (although I was pleasantly surprised to see a lot of major events had not been spoiled for me, yay).
As for games that will be ranked higher, oh, I definitely know some games I'm going to get lambasted over are in the remaining 83 games. I mean, even if I listed those games at #100 I wouldn't be surprised if people would look at them on the list and say "Wait, what?" over. I just enjoy games a lot easier than most people, I guess, and that means I can get past what some people consider to be major flaws. Perhaps it all comes down to the moment I played some games, how I felt in my life at that time. Who knows?
FFII had a story and characters (notably the guest party member ones) I could enjoy, Pike, but I just really didn't like the battle and leveling system. It's as simple as that for me.

Actually I think what Bolivar said is part of the reason for feelings. Most of the FFs I enjoy have been pretty innovative and mixed things up, whilst FFIX was a game that set out to appeal to the people who loved the first few FFs. If you didn't play those games until much later, because they were never even released in your territory, and you started with VII, IX is possibly going to feel like a much less interesting and innovative game. Lacking nostalgia appeal the game loses some of its charm - how much is probably going to vary from person to person.
Although that theory does not explain why I later went back and did play most of the earlier FFs and enjoyed them thoroughly.
For me it just never managed to really grab me. It was a lot like FFXII in that regard. Tried it for a little while, thought it was awkward, forced myself to continue for a bit, realized I wasn't enjoying it, quit.
I don't mind if you guys like it, I'm happy you did. Same goes with FFXII. I just couldn't get into it.
I have been meaning to give all the FFs I didn't like another shot some time, but, well, you know, Steam backlog and all.
