Dark energy is really just another example of science over unproven anecdotes (and actually involves scientists asking the same sort of question I posed in my last post: "if X is true, what else must be true?"); just because it's not yet fully understood does not mean that belief in it is throwing up our hands and ignoring known possibilities in favor of baseless superstition. True, we don't know everything -- but that does not give us license to believe in anything. The model of dark energy involves the best explanation we currently have for how the universe operates (including the accelerated expansion and how it's shaped); it does not involve ignoring an infinite number of realistic possibilities of lieu of undefined and undefinable nonsense.
