Ok, I'll give it a shot, and this will be a completely random guess because you make it seem like it must be very non-phonetic: mine-give/guyv (hard "i" sound on both syllables, not like the word "give").

Ore isn't pronounced ore-eh. But reg has the eh sound in it. So O-REG-on or gun or whatever

EDIT: It's like OREGANO. Do you pronounce that Organ-o? No
