I just leave my system on, in Sleep Mode, when I go to work or class. My work day usually nets me 9 or 10 passes (with 10 being the max you can get at one time), and school is usually good for 3 or 4 (would be more if I were taking more classes). Even with Wireless turned on, it has enough battery life to last eight hours and still get a couple hours of play out of it.

Which is what it is, until you start passing the same person multiple times, which lets you pass messages, game suggestions, and more.
And, frankly, it's still far better than simply posting pictures to Facebook.
I also hate the Idea that you are getting trout for not playing the game.
Only on the really poorly implemented ones. On most of them, they require playing the game.
Link Between Worlds? Have fun fighting Dark Link.
Fire Emblem Awakening? A team to fight, or a shop, which requires you to play to get the money (and if you don't have the DLC, money is
very scarce).
Bravely Default? It helps you out in battle once per StreetPass (which I haven't used outside of the tutorial mission for it), helps you rebuild Norende (by a tiny fraction). Oh, and it summons really hard bosses for you.
More so, if you happen to live in an area where there isn't all that many gamers, like a country side, you're kind of screwed on it's functionality. The location you happen to live should not have an effect.
This is true. Nintendo tried to help a bit by setting up the StreetPass relay system at Nintendo Zone locations (and apparently my work is now one of those, score), but it is still limited by geography.
I'm only happy Street pass isn't relegated to anything more major then it has been in terms of games, or even anything really necessary. Not a single game I have played with it has really benefited in any noticeable way from it.
I agree that it is nice that it is limited to side-functionality. This is one of its strengths. Its there, but it's not forced on you, and you can skip it entirely without even noticing. But since I've turned it on, I'm happy I've done so.
