Honestly I'm very ocd when it comes to discs and consoles, almost all of my devices still work. PS3... I think it's just a bad luck streak.
The first died within warranty after I bought it about 6-7 years ago, gamefreezes all over the place. The replacement lasted a long time; about 6 years. Then it got the PS3 version of the RRoD. Of course warranty was no longer an option after all this time, but I was happy with how long the device worked anyway.
Bought a new PS3 slim to replace that one thinking I'd play it for another 5-6 years (like I still do with my PS2). It's very disappointing to see it break down so soon considering I have been away from home most of the time and have only played effectively maybe 4-5 months. Games just freeze out of nowhere every half hour or so. It's a warrantee issue and Sony said they'd send replacement within 2 weeks. All will be well
