Okay guys, 7 votes already! That's a record. But now it's tie between Ys and The Binding of Isaac. Anyone to decide winner before midnight or will it be left to the old good RNG? :P
Though nevermind that, I've played some Bastion today so here's my review.
Bastion
Bastion is another indie game. This time it is Action/Hack&Slash RPG from 2011.
So what is Bastion even about? Basically you are what at first seems the only survivor of great apocalypse of the world and you are supposed to gather Cores - fragments of places in the old world - to Bastion to start new place to live and of course in doing so, save any possible survivor you find on the way.
The gameplay is mix between hack and slash like Diablo and action like... I dunno lol. You have three ways to attack, two weapons, one per each mouse button and special skill on Q. Also you can dodge attacks or parry them with shield etc. You go through the levels defeating enemies in your path while ideally destroying everything else like barrels, rocks, barricades etc. for this game's kind of money. Actually the path here is interestingly done because it just appears before your steps instead of being there in the first place giving off the illusion that the whole place is very dynamic.
The way you manage your weapons and skill is pretty much like in Bioshock or so to say. When you find new skills/weapons it gets automatically equipped and you have to use it till the end of the level but once you get back to the bastion, you can then select which weapons (one meele, one ranged) and skill you want to have. There are also other ways to upgrade your character with "drinks", one per each level. You can choose from things like more hp, better crit chance and so on.
The art style of the game is fantasy-like and it's very lovely and smooth as you can see in the screenies. The music is also well placed and helps with the pace of the game with how it changes during calmer periods and battles. The speciality of the game is that through the whole game there is narrator with very fitting voice commenting what you've done and it is seriously great and keeps you sucked in the game.
Some gameplay again:
Rating:
Objectively:
Bastion is overall very enjoyable game that is relaxing to play as most of the hack and slashes are. The story is interesting and is definitely there but if you don't want to you don't really have to follow it and just enjoy destroying things.
Art, music and narration are all perfectly done and there is really nothing bad about them.
Seriously if you enjoy this kind of games, get Bastion.
9/10
Subjectivey:
Pretty much all of the objective and more. I fell in love with Bastion and will definitely keep playing it as much as possible when I am not doing something else. I enjoy hack and slashes very much, the story of this game seems interesting, the narrating of what I do is something I find really great...
I also realy like the graphics of this game and it's smoothnes, seriously it's lovely to watch.
For me this game is a masterpiece
10/10
And with that I have another game I will definitely love and play alot I really think this thread was a good idea, as I don't know just when or even if I would get to play these games instead of just being bored and having too many games to choose from. I hope I will find even more gems like this :P
