They've actually been hinting at this development for a while. Even Miyazaki has said it. More than likely the animation department will close down for an indeterminate amount of time, but the company will remain open. I believe they wanted to keep it open to deal with their licenses. We'll see if that's actually what they do or when that happens.
what kind of nation should we build? a good nation? a nation of plenty? a nation of muffled joy?

No matter what the company may end up being, at least their films are timeless.

As some have stated, it's unfortunate but this doesn't mean the staff are going to vanish. I'm sure we'll still see some great works in the future from some of them.

I suppose that's true. It's a bit like being devastated that Picasso is dead. It's a shame, yeah, but he's already painted Starry Night so I guess it's okay.

It's genuinely one of my favourite pieces of art and I'm not sure how I managed to smurf that up. xD

I remember my niece seeing Ponyo on TV with me one christmas. She literally sat there for the entire movie glued to the TV, it's still one of her favourite films.

I thought this was Quin making a joke and I'm sad that it wasn't.
