I like his pauldrons.
Cool hair, too. Not enough facial hair for me, however.
Could someone explain the nature of his appearance to a newbie who has never played this game? Is he as special as he is in later installments?
He's the owner of the world's only airship until the empire finishes their dreadnought. He helps the rebels out a few times before getting killed in an imperial attack, on his deathbed he gives the party the airship.
