So the heroes helped Kuja succeed in both his plans. Plan A was to get Alexander and thanks to our heroes this was accomplished. It was only thwarted by Garland. Garland stopped Kuja, not our heroes.
Plan B was to get the Terra and the invincible and our party conveniently opened the path to Terra, beat up and distracted Garland, allowing Kuja to hijack thE Invincible and attain Super Trance.

You also forgot about Garnet walking into an obvious trap with Brahne so she could attain her Eidolons which Kuja effortlessly collected Bahamut from her later.
