I like Valentine's day. Not necessarily the heart-shaped everything consumerism and all of that, but I think it's a nice day. I think it is best spent privately with your loved one with a meal and dessert prepared before or even something as dumb as pizza by candelight, as long as you're making a fun time of it.

I want to make/have/prepare/order in a super nice, expensive, indulgent meal, dessert and wine to eat in a living room pillow fort and marathon Thundercats episodes projected on the wall while in pajamas. That is my idea of a perfect valentine's day. Which is how I might spend mine this year as I cannot spend it with my SO!

I've actually figured out kind of the perfect gift for my boo thang.

I've ordered him a huge box of Filipino snacks & drinks. Yes, I know, it all could probably be bought here since we live in NYC, but I doubt he'll ever go out of his way to go buy it for himself.

I'm also going to order him a robe and a couple of other things.

And then I'll cook some hella fancy dinner like Gordan Ramsay style and we will have drinks and stuff!

Taking the wife out to her favorite restaurant in town, and likely chocolates and other things. I find that Trader Joe's offers some creative options for chocolates, but she prefers See's Candies, so I will be visiting there soon.

I was single for a long, long time, so I understand the bitterness and how stupid it looks from the other side. It's an obligation once you're together, so you do and make the best of it. Go tell your significant other it's a boring corporate holiday and watch the tears flow. I'm serious.

This will be the first Valentine's Day I've spent solo in well over a decade, but it's not the fact that I'm solo on V-day that'll bother me, it's just the pattern/habit being broken. V-day has never been my favorite holiday, but I've always celebrated, and it used to be a way to subvert the SO's expectations with surprise a-traditional romance. And now I don't get to do that. It's probably a good thing, though. I was running out of ideas.

I'm planning on doing something special for my grandmother, though. She lost the love of her life not once, but twice, and nobody deserves a special day more.

Last year I "obtained" half a pound of chocolates with pop-rocks inside from work and lined my mega-crush's coat pockets with them later in the evening. I'm flying solo again this year...could really care less.

I don't remember if I've ever told anyone this, but about eleven years ago, I bought my boyfriend a Valentine's Day present. Then he went on a huge rant about how Valentine's Day is terrible, so I threw the gift away and pretended like I thought it was a stupid holiday too. Valentine's Day is a day to remember this and feel really embarrassed about being a teenager. I'm blushing now!

I have a bit of an opposite story to that.

I have been in a relationship on quite a few Valentines, and every time my boyfriend of the time has been 'yeah Valentines day is stupid' and so I was always like 'yeah man it is let's not do anything' but really I always wanted to celebrate it! Pheesh is the only boyfriend I've ever celebrated it with, which is nice now and makes it a bit more special for some reason.

It's an excuse to fork out a bit of extra money and eat nice food, which makes it all good in my books. I also enjoy planning and scheming, and I'm pretty good at buying presents , so for that reason I also like Valentine's day.
