Grew up with 2D, but I've never been one for nostalgia.

3D. FFIX, FFXII, FFVII, FFX. The only game in my top 5 that isn't 3D is VI. xD
3D
I couldn't survive without some of the 3D ones.
( a life without FF 4 and FF6 would be a very depressing one though )
If I was a dimension then it would be nice to get together with another dimension. If we're being honest though, we'd all like a threesome. 3D all the way.
I accidentally voted for 2D though. Story of my life.
3D for me as well. Out of the 2D ones, the only one I think is great is IV with V behind it. I think all the 3D mainline ones I've played are great.
I prefer the 2D entries overall, as there is only one I'm not especially fond of, while I only actively like three of the 3D games.
Definitely 3D.
The only real gem in 2D was FF6. FF4 is pretty good but has obviously been remade in 3D as well.
Whereas 3D we have FF7, FF8, FF9, FF10, FF12. All brilliant games!
Bad part for me is that the only ones I really love in the series are VI and VII. But with the possibility that Type-0 and XV will be good, I'd probably have to lean towards 3D..
2D. I feel that the more strict linear nature of the newer FFs can be blamed on them being in 3D. Don't get me wrong, some of my favorite FF titles are in 3D, but I think 2D gave Square more room to work with and forced the developers to be more creative because of the limitations they faced.
At best, maybe they can go 3D, but stop worrying so much on FMVs and GRAPHIX so much.
A part of me can't let go 2d for some unexplainable reason. It is not nostalgia, but rather something I can't quite put my finger on. I'm about 80 - 20 on this, 80 being 3d.
I struggle to take everything in, especially when a game is totally rendered in 3D, to the pixel density it is at today. I have to sit less than a meter away from my 37" screen in order to 'see' the game. I never had to do this when graphics where a little simpler. Everything blends into the environment, even the characters, so it's hard to work out what you need to focus on. I guess that is why every interactive object you can actually touch has a giant big arrow above it.
I think the PS1 era and the PS2 era had just the right level of detail for my poor brain.
There is not a single 2D FF I dislike. Even though XII is my favorite numbered FF, X (especially, for me) and XIII are bad enough for me to just give up on the whole generation, and the others can't really hope to make up for it.
Plus, the Tactics games are all in 2D (yes, the original counts as 2D too and I will fight you for it), including FFTA which I consider the single best FF in existence.
Um... Two is not most.
