Notice how the blue tentacles go from being at the bottom of Inkay to being the top of Malamar's head? And Malamar is standing on what was Inkay's head? The evolution flips the Pokémon over. The 3DS's gyro controls are used to detect when the system is held upside down, and trigger the evolution.
Also note that Malamar can have the ability Contrary, which reverses all stat boosts. And it's signature move, Topsy-Turvy, reverses stat boosts on its target. Another bit of upside-down theming for the "Overturning Pokémon".

well during my spare time on holidy, i fully EV'd Gyrados, Audino, Zorark, Bibarel and Sunkern. also i evolved them all to final evolution, except sunkern, i didnt have anyway to check how to evolve it yet. anyway. do we have a date for the battles?

Sunflora is just an annoyingly crap pokemon. Fairly useless, and you need a rare stone to evolve it. Ugh!

( Swablu is the best pokemon ever. so i cant kill it. feel lucky freya! unless you turn it into altaria. then i can attack.)
You certainly can over-level if you want to. There are plenty of great moves to pick up. Plus, some Pokémon won't evolve until past level 50. Also, there are various locations to get a Sun Stone depending on if you're playing XY or ORAS.
But in both games, you can get one as a possible reward from the Secret Super Training level "Drag Down Hydreigon".
