Thread: Which spin-offs/sequels should I play?

Default Which spin-offs/sequels should I play?

As of the current date I have played through FFI-FFXIII, I have not played any of the sequel/prequel games and for spin-offs I've only played Tactics and the three main Crystal Chronicles games. Which sequels/spin-offs would you guys recommend? I plan to play them all eventually, even the not so great ones, but it would be nice to see which ones are actually loved.

X-2 is decent if you can get past the Charlie Angels/Sailor Moon/This is how women act, right? parts of it.

It helps that I already have it thanks to the HD collection. I've heard the combat system is one of the best realizations of ATB.

FFX-2 is a silly bit of fun and I would recommend it to all. FF13-2/3 are considered miles better than FF13, so if you enjoyed 13 then you should give them a go as well.

I agree with ToriJ and Shauna.

X-2 is fun and has a good combat system

XIII-2 is considered better than XIII by lots of people.

Lightning Returns has a great combat system, but give it a miss if you're not a fan of Lightning.

Tactics Advance and Tactics Advance 2 are my two favorite FF games period.

I wholeheartedly agree that X-2 is awesome, entirely undeserving of the hate it gets.

If you liked the DS remakes, you should probably check out Four Heroes of Light and it's successor, Bravely Default.

I played FFIV: The After Years and enjoyed most of the episodes. The ending is just repetitive dungeon crawling nonsense, though.

    Yes, Tactics Advance please!

It's not as dark as Tactics, but the plot goes surprisingly deep and overall I think it's my favorite FF ever.

Tactics A2 has better gameplay and much more varied sidequests, but the main plot is pretty terrible. The rest still really makes up for it, though, so I still consider it a fantastic game.

    Plenty of good suggesitons already.

Also check out Final Fantasy Type-0. Not sure if it would be counted as a sequel/spin-off or more as a separate series (since Type-1 is supposedly coming), but it takes place in the same Fabula Nova Crystallis universe as the XIII series.
