I saw it, too...
Everyone's mostly in denial right now. I don't blame them...
I don't blame them either. I mean, not only is the man a legend, but he's not that old, and when we last saw him, during E3, he looked so vibrant, so alive. It's hard to believe that he's gone so soon after that.
Rest in peace, Iwata-san. May your legacy endure forever.
My friend Delzethin is currently running a GoFundMe account to pay for some extended medical troubles he's had. He's had chronic issues and lifetime troubles that have really crippled his career opportunities, and he's trying to get enough funding to get back to a stable medical situation. If you like his content, please support his GoFundMe, or even just contribute to his Patreon.
He can really use a hand with this, and any support you can offer is appreciated.
This is terrible. 55 is too early to go. He'll be missed.
#ThankYouIwata is trending on Twitter. 4chan's /v/ is playing music from the MOTHER games (yes, 4chan is mourning). And there is a lot of fan art saying farewell.
Farewell Art
There's lots more out there as well.

This is something that is creeping up on me. I found out right when it happened and I felt sad, of course. But as the night goes on I just have a gut wrenching feeling. I even shed a few tears privately (this rarely happens with me for people I didn't personally know, even if I am a MEGA fan of theirs or whatever). He will be missed.
Also, MAD props for Sony's classy Tweet. It's nice to see people look at something like this beyond company borders.
Sad to hear him go. I was a fan of his Iwata Asks articles and he seemed like a really likable fellow. Sad to see a legend go before his time. Rest in peace.

True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
RIP, Iwata. Can't say I've ever been a huge Nintendo fan but there is no denying the amount of work that this guy has put in to make the Wii and 3DS a success. My thoughts go out to his friends, family and work colleagues. Cancer strikes again

Shigesato Itoi (Worked with Wata on Earthbound and various other projects) on what happened.
"When I’m parting with a friend, regardless of the circumstances, I find it best to just say, “See you later.” We’ll meet again. After all, we’re friends.
That’s right—nothing unusual about it. I’ll see you later.
You went on a trip far, far away, even though it was planned for many years from now. You wore your best outfit and said “Sorry for the short notice,” though you didn’t say it out loud.
You always put yourself last, after you’d finished helping everyone else. You were so generous as a friend that this trip might be your very first selfish act.
I still can’t grasp what’s happened. It feels like I could still get a light-hearted e-mail asking me out to lunch at any moment—after you’ve made sure lunch wouldn’t disrupt my schedule, of course.
You can invite me out whenever you want. I’ll invite you, too.
So for now, let’s plan on meeting again. You can call me up whenever you like, and I’ll give you a call, too. I still have a lot to talk to you about, and if I come up with any particularly good ideas, I’ll let you know.
So let’s meet again.
No–I suppose we’re already meeting. Right here, right now."
I'm getting all teary eyed like a bitch right now. ;_;
Isn't it spelled Satoru?
Anyway, this-this is something else.
