Here we are, words and numbers.
1. Azumanga Daioh
AzuDai is the slice of life comedy anime, with high school girls doing high school things. I think it was one of the first super popular examples of this particular genre and it is just excellent from start to finish.
2. Sailor Moon
Inclusive of all iterations, although S1/2 of the Crystal reboot was incredibly subpar. This was my introduction to anime when I was a kid, and it was how I got back into it proper as a teenager. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me, and I love it.
3. Cardcaptor Sakura
Another great example of the magical girl anime. It is adorable and lovely and holds up really well even today. Also all the OPs and EDs are golden and I listen to Platinum on a regular basis.
4. Kaiji
KUYASHII. KUYASHIIIIIII. KUYASHIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. Kaiji is, well, intense. The first arc is all about playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to avoid being sent into THE VOID. What more would you want from an anime? It is... not pretty looking, but if you can look past that, it is solid.
5. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Over the top fighting anime, which takes itself 0% seriously. The fights are impressive looking, and it is super fun to watch.
6. Katanagatari
No this is nothing to do with any of the Monogatari series. Yes it is just as good, if not better. An RPG fetch quest of an anime with character development out the wazoo alongside some neat battles, with a finale that left me genuinely upset at everything forever.
7. Princess Tutu
Another magical girl anime! It is also about ballet, if you couldn't guess from the title. It is an odd mix, but it turns out really well. Also the main character is actually a duck who turns into a girl so I don't know why you've not watched this yet.
8. Shiki
Most horror anime tend to stray too far on the side of campy and dumb, or just end up being not very engaging. Shiki was genuinely harrowing and fairly deep, and I connected on an emotional level with the whole thing.
9. Excel Saga
Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. I watched it long ago and thought it was hilarious, but this anime relies on a vaster knowledge of the medium as a whole, so I wonder if I'd appreciate it even more now that I have increased my weeaboo tenfold. Time for a rewatch, I think.
10. Uta no Prince-sama
Okay I lied. This one is here ironically. This anime is terrible. Yet also amazing. But mostly terrible.
