Well?
Open World (like FFXIV)
Linear (like FFX)
Traditional FF Model (FFIV or VI)
Well?
Tha older ones are the best. Just work so well.
Oh for Final Fantasy! Traditional.
Yeah, I'm more of an old-school fan as all of my fondest memories come from them.
In regards to open world vs linearity, I suppose it depends on the game. I thoroughly enjoyed both FFX and FFXV even though they are vastly different.
Open world. XII introduced this both to FF and to me personally and nothing really felt as good as having incredible exploration on top of that unique FF flair. Still have a big soft spot for the traditional world map, though. The linear approach, not so much, since the games in the main series that follow that format are basically my bottom two FFs ever (not to mention some of my least favorite games in general). I mean, it can work, since I still liked Xenosaga, but FF just can't handle it well, at all.
(And before you stone me to death, keep in mind that this is just my opinion, you're entitled to your own and I won't judge you for it, and, most importantly, I love you)
I really like open world. For me, it's kind of an evolution of the traditional system.
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
I think VI, VII, & XII did this well, where you had periods where there are incentives to going off the beaten path and getting some goodies/extra content without ever actually forcing you to just aimlessly wander.
