I found a second hand copy of FFVII along side Metal Gear Solid. At first I only got to the Guard Scorpion to try it out, and ended up getting glued to MGS. Once I gave it a go though, it was pretty much a turning point in the games I played.

I will do this. Nothing in my life matters except this. No moment in my life exists except this moment. I am born in this moment, and if I fail, I will die in this moment.

I started FFs with Final Fantasy II (US Version - Japanese Version being IV of course!) back in the fall of 1991. My father was dying of cancer and I wanted to play something that would take my mind off of it. I rented FF because it was unique, something different from Mario and some of the more linear games I was playing. (It didn't hurt that it was described as a role playing game and I liked D&D!) I loaded it up and everything else was history.

I had a friend who was (and still is) totally into RPGs. He introduced me to FF3, FF7, FFT, and Xenogears.

The September 1997 issue of GameFan had a big four-page feature on FFVII and what an amazing game it was and how much was being added to it for the American version, and in the review section, it received scores of 100+, 100+, and 100. And the screenshots looked awesome anyway.

My uncle let me borrow his copy of FFX. So, once I decided I liked it, I went on a search for other FFs.

I literally grew up with them. My brother had bought them before I was even born and then I got to play FFIV when I was old enough (which I think was 6 years old maybe). I loved it and have been playing FFs ever since.

My sister was into FF so she introduced it to me at a very young age. My first one was FFVI (FFIII SNES version). Then shortly after, I played FFIV (FFII SNES version). I think that's why I like the earlier ones more then the newer ones (with the exception of FFVIII, I <3 that game so much). So yeah, that's the story.

Way back when, in 1997 or so, I used to watch my friend's older brother play FF4 and FF6 (FF2 and 3). He told me that FF2 was 'hard', and that I couldn't handle it (I've never touched a FF in my life, I was about 12 or so).

I watched him play through breath of fire 3 for about 10 hours, and I was amazed by it, simply because I've never seen anything quite like an RPG. I simply HAD to try it! For a long time, I never got my hands on one, but when I heard the ravings of FF7, I knew I had to try it out. About 2 years later and longing to play an RPG, I finally bought myself FF7. I loved that game so much, that I played jsut about every FF that came out before it, and even FF8. I went on an RPG rampage, downloading and buying as many of them as I could. It was a complete obsession.

I got into the FF7 craze long after it came out. It was my favorite for a long time, but now it definitely is not. I'm not sure what happened, maybe I jsut came to realize it wasn't as 'great' as I thought it was. It's still very good and I like it, but the materia system is somewhat flawed and the gameplay is far too easy.

Don't have that issue anymore (lost most of my old EGM/GamePro/GameFan/etc. mags), but I still have the old first look issue with like a 7-page feature of a half-finished FF7 dating back to sometime in '96. Looking back at it some time ago, I saw a screenshot of Aeris kneeling at the Forgotten Capital, and the caption read "Is this where you meet Aeris?!"

I thought it was pretty funny.

I got into FF when I went to a friend's house way back in middle school and he told me about this game that he'd gotten for his birthday that was like nothing he'd ever played before (neither of us had played or even heard of an RPG before that). He was stuck on the set of elevator bosses in the Shinra building and he asked me to get him unstuck. He always did that - we used to play through Aladdin all the time, and he'd always give me the controller when we came to the part where you have to ride Carpet out of the Cave of Wonders. Anyways, I just started a new game instead, and by the time I went to sleep the next morning, I had saved my game just outside of the chocobo ranch.
