    Charles Dickens!...oh sorry, I thought we were just shouting names for fun.

    Putting my breath to rest
    anticipating twilight's end
    in hope of finding love
    fighting sickness

    Void was my brawl;
    it drenched me.

    I reckon it's Brahne. She dies, before the destruction of Terra (I'll link this riddle to Terra somehow if it's the last thing I do, damnit!). Before she dies, she talks to Garnet and they're all happy, and she had probably hoped that Garnet would forgive her for being a real . Death would in that case be the sickness.

    Her brawl...hmm...she was waging war on everything using summons, then the Invincible came along and completely nullified that, as it set the summon Bahamut against Brahne, blowing up her ships and drenching her.

    It sounded good in my head, but the more I wrote, the less convincing it became to me....

    She wanted Garnet's love and found it when she died.

    If Pure Quins is wrong then I'll guess Beatrix. She put her breath to rest when she was in Alexandria ,when Garnet was Queen, because she thought everything was over. Twilight was almost gone and it was night when Bahamut attacked. She hoped steiner loved her. Fighting the sickness of her past before she was good. The fight against her past in vain and she was drenched in saddness until Stiener got to her.
    I don't think it's right but it's worth trying.

    Wait.. could it be Freja?

    Putting my breath to rest
    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Freja finally can rest at the end of the game,, iirc she retired to love a man who can't remember his past.
    ~~~~~~~~
    anticipating twilight's end~
    ~~~~~~~~~
    Well unless LOTS of Burmecians got away there is the death of the species.
    ~~~~~~~~~
    in hope of finding love
    ~~~~~~~~~
    Freja surrendered to fate before geting her love back... I can't think of anything for this one.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    fighting sickness
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Homesickness.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Void was my brawl;
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Her brawl was for no reason I can see at the end, she should have just retired.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    it drenched me.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    She was overwhelemed when the game was over.
    Keep in mind all I know of Disc 3/4 is what I've read in the interweb. I havn't ever finished FF9 all the way.
    Yeah, like Ace14 said. She wanted Garnet to forgive her for her actions and to love her like a mother again.
    Sorry for taking so long. All the answers posted so far were wrong, but most of you have good reasoning. However, you probably need to think less metaphorically with this one. In fact, it's very literal. There is one word in the whole riddle that is strictly metaphorical.
    Putting my breath to rest: If it's not metaphorical, then it's a character who's very talkative.
    anticipating twilight's end: I would say, lust for glory or power.
    in hope of finding love: pretty straight forward.
    fighting sickness: someone who is sick.
    Void was my brawl;: emptiness was my noise. So it's something he/she said.
    it drenched me.: I assume 'drenched' was symolic for disappointment. 'It disappointed me.'
    So it talks a lot, wants power, wants love, is sick, says the wrong things and was disappointed.
    Steiner? I think that 'love' bit throws people.
    So it's all literal? Apart from one purely metaphorical word? Hmph.
    Putting my breath to rest --- Could be dying, or just shutting up.
    anticipating twilight's end --- Looking forward to the end of something. Can't think for twilight.
    in hope of finding love --- It hopes to find love. Could be one love, or just to be loved by people in general.
    fighting sickness --- It's ill. Or possibly just messed in the head. Probably ill.
    Void was my brawl; --- It fought, but it's efforts were...can't think of a word. Just pointless in the end I guess.
    it drenched me. --- "it drenched me"? If that's grammatically correct with the previous line, then the "it" must be the brawl.
    Indeed, metaphorical may not be the right word though. Let's say: one of the words gives a clue to another word, not the answer itself, but a word that would quite quickly lead you to the answer.
    Hmph.
    Don't you dare hmphing me. Anyway, parts of your analysis is completely correct, other parts are completely off.
