I get a feeling of Fratley, but I can't be arsed to check if he was in FF5 so....I dunno. I'll just say Fratley. It's the mice bit that did it. But the playing's got me jiggered. I'll spend more time on it for my next answer.

All wrong. [strike]I'll start thinking out good clues soon.[/strike] EDITH: Update with major hint
The riddle:
My acquaintance you may have gotten
from the darkness, where I dwell
Although I may be gone and forgotten,
I know Father Time quite well
My former master hides in thin air,
his being you may have missed
to find him you may have to be aware
that he really does exist.
Now, when you've seen me, you may find
that you have seen me before
But only when you look behind
you'll find who I'm really made for
For although I have a close relative here,
a friend of yours, well and alive,
my own life span, it ended, I fear,
in Final Fantasy five.
So who am I, my playing friend?
Am I kin of men or mice?
Neither, but bring your doubt to end
With three times three, but twice.
Wrong answers:
Namingway Card
Gilgamesh
Sir Fratley
Necron
Kain
Black mages
Qu, Quale, Quan, Quina
Grand Lethal
Hints / notes:
The answer is a "what" (not a "who")
The last line suggests "99".

Lav Layderce was a who though. The cheeky Chico. Who's Edith by the way? You best not be cheating boy!
Question: Is "kin of men or mice" referring to Burmecian or Cleyran things, or is mice more of a metaphor for cowardice or something? Feel free to tell me to shove this question where the Sun occasionally shines if you think it'd give the answer away.
Of course, but I wouldn't want to mislead you Quinny-poo.
Who's Edith by the way? You best not be cheating boy!
That line is actually one of the more irrelevant ones. Or well, it tells you (together with the "Neither" on the line below) that the answer is neither human nor mouse, but the "mice" part is mostly there for filling up and rhyming.Question: Is "kin of men or mice" referring to Burmecian or Cleyran things, or is mice more of a metaphor for cowardice or something? My first thought was a genome, but thats who. Then, i thought Black Mages...thats a what, isint it? There are no classic black mages in either FFVI, VII, or VIII, the last was in FFV. Three times three but twice is 18, which means what? And my former master...i dont know! I should be doing biology homework, not working on this. I'll go for the black mages.
For although I have a close relative here,
a friend of yours, well and alive, <-- Vivi?
The last words of Oscar Wilde, to the wallpaper in his room - "One of us has to go"
You think right on many points, although Black Mages is the wrong answer and not very close. 18 is wrong as well, but I don't think you should focus too much on that.
You're thinking in the right lines when you say Vivi, but since Black Mages are far from the answer, Vivi is also far from the relative suggested.
Biology homework is futile! Actually no.![]()
Is it the Qu? Or more specifically, Quale or Quan?
A lot of it sounds like the secret reunion with Quan at Quan's Dwelling to me. I haven't played FFIV though, so I don't know where that ties in.It's most likely miles from the answer, but hey, it's worth a try!

Three times three, but twice...its 99, isint it?
A few other thoughts have come to mind, one is the sword in Lindblum weapon shop, which is Clouds Buster sword. Wrong. Another is Zidanes Grand Lethal, or maybe the ability or weapon you get it from I'll research that. I go for Grand Lethal right now.
The last words of Oscar Wilde, to the wallpaper in his room - "One of us has to go"
It is neither the Qu nor any Qu clan member. It is not Grand Lethal either, but yes, 99 is what the last line suggests.
The Boco card you win in Memoria?
My former master hides in thin air,
his being you may have missed
to find him you may have to be aware
that he really does exist. (you get the card from the phantom guy)
Now, when you've seen me, you may find
that you have seen me before
But only when you look behind (in previous games)
For although I have a close relative here,
a friend of yours, well and alive, (chocobos?)
my own life span, it ended, I fear,
in Final Fantasy five. (was it the last game he was in? i'm not sure)
With three times three, but twice. (card #99)

You are correct, Taggerung! My full reasoning is as follows:
My acquaintance you may have gotten
from the darkness, where I dwell
Although I may be gone and forgotten,
I know Father Time quite well
My former master hides in thin air,
his being you may have missed
to find him you may have to be aware
that he really does exist.
Rare Phantom, from which you win the Boco card, is invisible, he hides in the clock room (hence "I know Father Time quite well") in Memoria.
Now, when you've seen me, you may find
that you have seen me before
But only when you look behind
you'll find who I'm really made for
For although I have a close relative here,
a friend of yours, well and alive,
my own life span, it ended, I fear,
in Final Fantasy five.
Although you may recognize him as Choco (a close relative), he is actually Boco from Final Fantasy V.
So who am I, my playing friend?
"playing" refers to the fact that you have to play cards to acquire this card.
Am I kin of men or mice?
Neither, but bring your doubt to end
With three times three, but twice.
3*3 = 9, 9 twice = 99, which is the card's number.
Well done! Your go.
I thought Boco was also in FF8 as the baby chocobo, but regardless, good show Rantizen.
The last words of Oscar Wilde, to the wallpaper in his room - "One of us has to go"
Baby chocobos of VIII were called Chicobos, if my memory serves me right.
And thanks.![]()
