For 1, infatuation with a video game character is disgusting, and 2, I just started playing this game again.

There are forum descriptions for a reason.
"There was no IX! They skipped a Final Fantasy!" "Was too. The guy had a tail." "Was it a sword tail?"

It's a Penny Arcade reference. (And so are the FFVII, FFVIII and FFX forum descriptions for that matter)

I mean even a cruddy game like 8 gets more acclaim, and that is SAD!
You're my hero, but a sequel would ruin it. This game gets put down so much when it has the most side quests, mini games, and secrets (which made it even better). This game was by far the best. I really liked Tetra Master too, it was a lot better than FF8's weird confusing card game. :mog:

SO lets see adding to the original discussion:

FF9 was quite clearly a good game. I doubt anyone ever understood how to really play tetra master. If they did they're some sort of genius:P I just collected the cards with the most arrows on them as possible(thats probably the reason why i played over 1500 tetra master games really) and then i'd rely on cards such as the invincible and the chocobo cards to win:P Somehow that got me through without any problems.

Probably for me the best thing is FF9: their improvement to the chocobo part of the game, the way hidden treasures were set up and the whole map thing and running around using your chocobo as some hacksaw. Definitely hilarious and made those little side quest things a must. Also the fact that he evolves with smoke and you can actually go around some parts of the game inside those special zones getting points and upgrading your beak lvl. Not to mention by doing all this you got access to the real part of the game: getting those weapons as rewards was a must. All the people i know that didn't bother with these could never finish the game and claimed Ark was possibly the strongest thing in the game. Heck using Ragnarok and Excalibur(only weapon names i recall atm) and using those nice techniques for constant 9999 damage owned any enemy badly:P

Besides that getting and keeping all weapons and whatnot just to get the different endings seemed like something interesting( and the mere fact the beating the hell out of hades gave me some pleasure too and getting his play card was also godly when you had the one with all the arrows).

Another thing that was quite enjoyable was your treasure hunting rank. Getting those coffee beans and the zodiac coins and the little dolls and miniature models was a thing simply too good to be missed

Apart from that the gfx were more cartoonish like which was something new. Personally i enjoyed it since it made the game more life like for me( i could never get over how FF7 was polygon style and ff8 had still bizarre shapes).

But sadly ff9 has its flaws:

For starters i never really understood that character Quina. To be honest i never really needed him nor his blue magic skills. I only used him when i was forced to. It did make that personal aim to get all the blue magic by myself rather interesting but besides that he seldom had any real part in the game. Didn't require him for any boss battle what so ever, not even the battle against Ozma.

Another fairly poor thing is that the game was simply too easy to beat. There was no real challenge in any fight to be honest. Kuja was full of wimp attacks And quite frankly The first time i played through and beat the living hell out of Necron I though he was like some preliminary boos before i went up against some absurdly high HP monster with deadly attacks. You can imagine how disappointed i was when after killing it nothing else shows up besides the ending and the credits. I even witnessed my at the time 10 year old sister who had no gaming experience what so ever beat the living hell out of Kuja and Necron without me even opening my mouth to tell her what to do. I just showed her what each attack did beforehand and how to select stuff and did the rest on her own. Same thing went for Ozma. For a thing that was supposed to be the ultimate challenge in FF9 simply having staff of Zeus mastered and armor that absorbed shadow damage was enough to kill it in around 7 or less minutes made me quite sad too. Only thing i never really managed to do was to eat him with Quina ability(probably the hardest thing to do so leaving him with low hp was quite challenging without dealing a final blow) So i never really found out if i could really eat him or not. To add on to this you didn't require to even train your characters. First time i finished the game Zidane was almost lvl 60 and therest were still low 50s. There was never the need to go beyond that point besides the mere curiosity of how much damage i could do with their initial weapons if they were leveled all the way to 99. SO basicly this game required very little strategy. You didn't even need to use limit breaks at any point to kill anything although they were pretty cool to watch.

    Moving on to FF8:

Possibly the game i enjoyed the least because i wasn't able to finish it completely the first time i played. Some of the little side quests were quite possibly unthinkable of for me and i only learned about them after following an extensive giude the second time around. needless to say i only learned on my second play about how to get the characters ultimate weapons and how to kill Omega and Ultima weapon without having to rely on converting time after time my Gilgamesh card and using summons after summons to deal the damage. The first time i played the game i had to get Eden via the cheap way. Surprisingly enough i didn't seem to have any actual problem killing Ultimecia since i did have my summons at high lvls and my magic junctions seemed to be flawless for killing her:P

Only the second time around was I able to get full limit breaks, ultimate weapons and maxed out ammo for them as well as being able to make perfect limit breaks with the trigger thing.

Possibly the FF that took me the longest to complete. The fact that i became a TT addict(triple triad) also helped a bit with getting the full collection of cards and turning them into valuable items for though battles played a role in it. Getting summon and character cards was a big part of the game and a quite fun thing too.

There were also a few new added things into ff8 that other FFs don't have: the fact that you could actually boost your summons str and if it were high enough you could flush them out of the screen or make them vanish in a tornado appealed to me. Sucks though when I tried to send bosses away and almost managed but they always resisted by an inch or 2. Also the fact that the way you received the summons in FF8 was completely different. Having to draw them from boss battles most of the times was definitely a very good addition.

Last but not least lest not forget about how simply amazing the Ragnarok was:P Flying that thing around the globe was one of my favorites

But a few things were a bit off: the characters in FF8 were a bit:S
They were more human like that in any other FFS up till that day but still they looked like squares and rectangles moving at some point. If they were more cartoonish like i would have preferred it that way but i guess thats just me:P

That and the whole thing about that dream world where Laguna and friends take over. For some reason i never enjoyed those part. I enjoyed the Laguna TT card thats for sure as well as Kiros but going through the game as them and all the party dreaming about them all of a sudden just seemed like possibly the dumbest thing to me. Their involvement in the entire story is too weak up till the end of the 3rd cd and i guess i never really liked them in the first place.

Although i'd easily play FF8 again just for the battle system and how all the junction thing works. Not to mention now that i suddenly recalled how to get Doom Train i had to go through hell to get it but it was things like those that made it worth it:P

    On to FF7:

I'll say his at the very start: my favorite FF of all times. I bought the PS just for this and I've beaten the game over 20 times now. I suppose i was easily influenced by my friends older brothers who also had the game and showed me how to play it.
I quite simply loved the storyline even though you just go around sephiroth most of the game that didn't bother me. I remember the thrill of killing the weapons, mastering the summons, finding out on your own how to get the red submarine and how to unlock bahamut zero and how to get th e characters best weapon and limits. It was also the introduction of the chocobos thing(for me at least since i had never played any FF before), the breeding them, racing them, mating them for the gold and finding out about the ultimate summon KOTR:P

Another great thing about it was not that obvious unless you read about side quest for the master materias. Getting them was definitely something. Mastering all the regular materias on your own, killing the emerald and ruby weapons with carefully planned tactics and scoring big in the battle arena were some of the best challenges around. I don't remember ever playing any FF which had so many different options materia use wise or as many hidden little things as FF7 does. Also the fact that it took several hours to master all the materia even with using the W-item trick and killing those pots in the north Crater and also quite challenging. And another fairly hard thing to accomplish would be getting your enemy skill materia complete. Killing sephiroth without KORT even at lvl 99 on all the characters was also quite the accomplishment at the time before learning how to always hit 7777 on him or being able to Mime one characters limit break indefinitely. At some points it would take several tries just to come up with a strategy to beat the final boss in the game or how to beat those weapons still lurking around.
This is the kind of thrill that you only get from FF7 or FF8. FF9 lacked that big time.

All in all, every FF is still pretty good in many aspects and obviously have some flaws in others ( heck running around almost looking like a polygon in FF7 is something i'd rather not do but i can overcome the poor graphics in the game simply because of everything else it offers) but no FF will ever pass FF7 is sales:P so from a certain point of view it can be considered the best FF ever(especially money wise) but neither FF8 or FF9 stay ahead or behind in general FF quality

Beatrix was badass the whole game was a peice of art and i don't agree with you saying that FFVIII is bad no Final Fantasies are bad in general except for spin offs.
