Yeah, it's easy there, after getting all the chocographs and finding the treasure it's worth it to find Ultima weapon and Ozma, he's hard if you don't know what to do, too bad that all he gives you is his card.

You can do chocographs whenever you want. I always do mine once I have control of an airship though, then it's easier.

It's purely for bragging rights. The irony is that Ozma is probably one of the hardest "optional" bosses in Final Fantasy (disincluding FFX's Penance, which I've heard takes upwards of two to three hours to kill). In previous FF's it was usually just a case of upping the damage to suitable levels in order to deal with the enemy, or employ some specific tactic. With Ozma you have to go through the rigmorole of the friendly monster quest, then the battle itself is more an exercise in luck than anything else. In FF9, there's no "killer" abilities, no Omnislash, no Lionheart, no Attack Slots etc.

Okay here's the strategy to defeat Ozma, write this down and I have to whisper so no one else hears.
1st have Amarant in your party, then choose anyone else you want, have Amarant perform curse on it until it gets weak of shadow now, when it does Doomsday, it'll kill itself, I laughed at it, It just made the battle so easy, oh and don't forget to cast shell on your party first

apart from from the satisfaction of knowing you were skilled enough to find and beat ozma without using a strategy guide is you get pretty much nothing but good equipment from the sidequests and a rare item for beating ozma. youll feel good and very clever if you get all of the chocographs without a guide but itll take sometime. the prizes from the chocographs are great so its well worth it.

Have Vivi, Steiner, Eiko and Zidane:

Have Shadow absorbing armor: Vivi's Doomsday will heal you whenever you want. Equip Return Magic to Vivi, he can cast back Doomsday to double-heal your party (sometimes Ozma absorb it but it's not a disadvantages!). Eiko should use Curaga to the party anytim even if the party in full HP, also do use Full-Life, don't bother using Elixir and Holy though. Steiner Shock will always hit for 9999 while Zidane mug Ozma to get nifty things.

If you want to dig Chocograph, do it after you obtained Hilda Garde 3: You should few Ultimate Weapon, helpful item and great armor. This will make things in Terra a lot more easier.

Or you could wear Shadow-absorbing/nulling gear. No need for Shell.

Beat him or don't beat him. Story-wise, it doesn't make a difference. He is fun to battle, though! He's an UBER.

Remember to input your command as his attack animation is going; he'll get a turn before you.

You could always get Steiner with Shock, power up Freya's Dragon Crest to the max, power up Zidane's Thievery to the max, and power up Quina's Frog Drop to the max. Four characters with instant 9,999 damage attacks. Shadow absorbing armor helps with keeping you alive, but with that much damage at your disposal, you should be able to pound Ozma into the ground easily.

I think I used Zidane, Steiner, Freya, and Amarant. I just kept spamming steal with Zidane to get the items off of Ozma while Steiner and Freya wailed away with Shock and Dragon Crest. I equipped Amarant with the healer ability and had him attack my own characters for 6,000+ HP restoration. If I needed him to attack, I could throw out a No Mercy for about that much damage. I didn't have any shadow absorbing equips on, so I think I had a considerable amount of luck when I beat Ozma. I haven't tried again since, and it was so long ago, so meh.
