Let's have a look at the anime I have listed as 10/10 on MyAnimeList...
Azumanga Daioh
Excel Saga
Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Kaiji
Katanagatari
Sailor Moon
Shiki
Uta no Prince-sama
I can attest that all of these are 10/10 anime forever, not a single one of these is ironically there.
For my final two...
Cardcaptor Sakura
Princess Tutu
I feel like these two today. I will perhaps put these into some order and add in some extra words, but I only have 4 minutes left on my break.
Honestly my Top 10 at any given time is pretty fluid and there are some that I really love that aren't here and I look at some of these and say "Do I really like this better than X?" but.
Yeah, I get you. It all depends on mood, what you've been watching, etc. So these lists are never, like, always valid. For me, at least.
As for my ten favorite anime right now:
10. Nana
9. Your Lie in April
8. Cowboy Bebop
7. Nichijou
6. Paranoia Agent
5. Attack on Titan
4. Kids on the Slope
3. The Tatami Galaxy
2. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
1. Wolf's Rain
Wow, this is pretty correct. However, I will give my own list:
1. Cardcaptor Sakura
2. Toppa Tengen Gurren Lagann
3. Kill La Kill
4. Kids on the Slope
5. Puella Magi Madoka Magica
6. JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
7. Gintama
8. Shinsekai Yori
9. Fate/Zero
10. Tatami Galaxy
EDIT: GAHHHH I FORGOT YOUR LIE IN APRILLLL
Here we are, words and numbers.
1. Azumanga Daioh
AzuDai is the slice of life comedy anime, with high school girls doing high school things. I think it was one of the first super popular examples of this particular genre and it is just excellent from start to finish.
2. Sailor Moon
Inclusive of all iterations, although S1/2 of the Crystal reboot was incredibly subpar. This was my introduction to anime when I was a kid, and it was how I got back into it proper as a teenager. It holds a lot of nostalgia for me, and I love it.
3. Cardcaptor Sakura
Another great example of the magical girl anime. It is adorable and lovely and holds up really well even today. Also all the OPs and EDs are golden and I listen to Platinum on a regular basis.
4. Kaiji
KUYASHII. KUYASHIIIIIII. KUYASHIIIIIIIIIIIIIII. Kaiji is, well, intense. The first arc is all about playing Rock, Paper, Scissors to avoid being sent into THE VOID. What more would you want from an anime? It is... not pretty looking, but if you can look past that, it is solid.
5. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure
Over the top fighting anime, which takes itself 0% seriously. The fights are impressive looking, and it is super fun to watch.
6. Katanagatari
No this is nothing to do with any of the Monogatari series. Yes it is just as good, if not better. An RPG fetch quest of an anime with character development out the wazoo alongside some neat battles, with a finale that left me genuinely upset at everything forever.
7. Princess Tutu
Another magical girl anime! It is also about ballet, if you couldn't guess from the title. It is an odd mix, but it turns out really well. Also the main character is actually a duck who turns into a girl so I don't know why you've not watched this yet.
8. Shiki
Most horror anime tend to stray too far on the side of campy and dumb, or just end up being not very engaging. Shiki was genuinely harrowing and fairly deep, and I connected on an emotional level with the whole thing.
9. Excel Saga
Nonsense. Absolute nonsense. I watched it long ago and thought it was hilarious, but this anime relies on a vaster knowledge of the medium as a whole, so I wonder if I'd appreciate it even more now that I have increased my weeaboo tenfold. Time for a rewatch, I think.
10. Uta no Prince-sama
Okay I lied. This one is here ironically. This anime is terrible. Yet also amazing. But mostly terrible.
10. Code Geass
9. Suzumiya Haruhi Series
8. Spice & Wolf
7. Elfen Lied
6. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica
5. Baccano!
4. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni
3. Little Busters!
2. Steins;Gate
1. CLANNAD
Honorable Mentions: Death Note, Ef: A Tale of Memories/Melodies, Kokoro Connect, Mirai Nikki, The World God Only Knows Series.
I might edit this post to be a bit more verbose later on.
This might be tough...
True beauty exists in things that last only for a moment.
Current Mood: And it's been a long December and there's reason to believe. Maybe this year will be better than the last. I can't remember all the times I tried to tell myself. To hold on to these moments as they pass...
Other than Spice & Wolf at #1, I really can't give you an order. There are just so many special anime in their own way. DISCLAIMER - everyone's going to get angry at me for not having Cardcaptor Sakura on this list. It is not my fault; I have not seen Cardcaptor Sakura yet. Now you can all get mad at me for that.
The remaining 9:
- K-On!
- Lucky Star
- Kiniro Mosaic
- SHIROBAKO
- Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
- Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
- Kill la Kill
- Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun
- Ore Monogatari
This was really hard. Honestly I have about a dozen more I would put on the same level as all of these, but the rule was 10 so there we go.
