Thread: Seiken Densetsu 3 / Secret of Mana 2

Default Seiken Densetsu 3 / Secret of Mana 2

I didn't notice any threads on this game, Seiken Densetsu 3. It's an RPG/action game with a unique style of gameplay. Kinda like Final Fantasy + Zelda.

Seiken Densetsu 3 was never released in the US, though it's predecessor "Secret of Mana" was (hence SD3's nickname "Secret of Mana 2". By the time it was made, there were a lot of other games in production - Chrono Trigger, FF6, plans for PSX games - so Square decided to dump it from getting a domestic release.

The game can be played on PC through an emulator.

You also need the ROM. Search the net or PM me.

EDIT: Just a note on linking to illegal files: Emulators are completely legal, while the ROMs are not.

Seiken Densetsu 3 is actually the SE game that I've replayed the most. I've beaten it seven times so far. What I love about it is how it has so many different character and class combinations, so there's plenty of replay value in the game. FFI has the same strength, and maybe that's why FFI is my second most replayed SE game (I've beaten it six times). Having characters with personalities and unique interaction based on who you have in your party is also a great thing in SD3. I still haven't decided what my favorite party in the game is. Lise is my favorite character, though.

I agree. I'm on my fifth playtrough (Lise happens to be the main character).
It's a game that you can't leave after you beat it just once.

Basch - "Don't forget though. Swap Magic is needed to play this game if you don't own a japanese PS2."
Vaan - "Also remember that if you played the original, you'll have an easier time playing the international version. We hope you enjoy the International Zodiac Job System experience. See ya then!"

I've played through the game more times than I can count. Using every main character with probably two or three secondary characters and going on a different class path each time. This is a great game, I heard somewhere a long time ago that it was gonna get a GBA rerelease, but I guess that never happened. I look foward to Children of Mana for the DS though.

I, too, am sitting at the last dungeon with Duran, Lise, Angela. I sat down with the intention to finally complete the game, as I've played through most of it many times, but for some reason I had lost my motivation to finish it.

Don't get me wrong, though. I love the game, it's most definitely one of my favorites.

I kept restarting and getting interested in all their stories...And then I restarted so much I got sick of it and never finished it. I'll probly eventually get around to it though.

I had the greatest time playing through this game with Paul Knox over ZSNES Netplay back in 2003.

That reminds me, why on earth did you name Carlie "Steve"? Great job for making Carlie's class a Bishop, by the way. Her Turn Undead does 999 damage for 1 MP and a quick cast against the boss in that picture if her level is higher than the boss's level (level 48+ should be enough, though level 50 will do for sure).

I agree. So far I've beaten the game five times, and it still feels quite fresh with all those nice class combinations and character interaction depending on who's in your party. I also liked the story with its nice nuances and how it changes depending on which characters you have in the party (the whole thing about three rival villain groups with their own machinations is a nice twist not to mention how the penultimate dungeons change depending on which character arc you play through).

There are some dramatic scenes with all the Rolante and Mana Land stuff among other things, and the music is very nice with some truly beautiful and memorable melodies and kickass battle themes. The graphics are quite nice, and I like the interesting battle system. My favourite character is Kevin with his tragic story arc, and I like how he utters some funny lines with his "interesting" use of grammar not to mention it's awesome to see him as a werewolf. The game gets even better if you play it with a friend, and it's nice how all party members have an important role to play in battles and how co-operation is often the key of winning tough battles.

And not only this, but the game also has one of the best and funniest lines ever:

All in all Seiken Densetsu 3 is a very nice game with an interesting storyline, awesome graphics, beautiful music, wondeful characters with their individual story arcs, great replayability, and nice battle and class systems. It's definitely a game worth checking out.
