Like the game isn't easy enough without it.

[strike]I doubt that you would get very far in the Monster Arena without BDL, so if you want to beat all the bosses, I think you need it.[/strike]

[strike]As for the main story, though, BDL is not needed much at all, but it helps a whole lot with certain aeons and overdrives.[/strike]

EDIT: I don't know why I made a post about BDL in a thread about BHP...oh yeah, I'm a crackhead.

Break Damage limit is far more integral than Break HP limit, but as I"m sure tavrobel will point out, it's not necessary.

which reminds me; tavrobel, have you ever gotten clear spheres to clear the abilities some characters come with? Like yuna's Cure and Esuna, and lulu's basic elemental spells?

You can't erase Ability nodes... I think.

If you want to have fun and kill enemies faster; YES!

Certainly not to finish the game. I'd prefer auto-phoenix ability or almost any other auto ability really. Having more hp means slower overdrive charging too. And with BHPL you'll need some way of fast hp recovery (auto-potion or whatever). Plus you can usually take very big hits on your aeons (which have automatic BHPL and shield ability). So its probably not worth the trouble.

BDL is almost required for Arena fights beginning with the Originals, but otherwise, not necessary (Celestial Weapons make your life easier without wasting 60 Dark Matters, as though you want Dark Matter in the first place because they only do 9999).

It doesn't work. I tried it one day, and it wouldn't let me get rid of Cure. If it had, I would erase all the Black Magic (not Flare, Ultima, Drain, and Osmose), half of the attack skills, the special techs, and a few of the white magic skills. If it does, then I will proceed to replace those Spheres with... nothing. Maybe HP nodes.

Both can be dropped by Dark Aeons, and Nemesis drops BHPL.

BHPL: 30 Wings to Discovery, Armor
BDL: 60 Dark Matter, Weapon, also on Celestial Weapons

Use the SEARCH button for questions like this; I don't think there hasn't been a question not answered thus far.

    Oh, i love these threads.

No, you don't need it. 9,999hp is sufficiant enough to allow you to beat penance downwards. All it takes is a bit of planning
