1 is a number, 2 is a number.
It's very easy for them to both be marks.
That's what it is - a mark. Not a point. Even under the definition of "exclamation point" in America's dictionary.com it says mark repeatedly as an explanation as to what it is. A point is a small dot or square, such as a period. The exclamation mark has a point, but it is not a point itself. Just like I have a head, but that does not mean I am nothing but a head, nor does it mean I am a head. I am a human that has a head, just like the exclamation mark is a mark that has a point.
