Ice takes more volume than soda so if you manage to leave it long enough that a sizable part of the liquid converts to ice it will force the lid open until it pops.

1/2 hour to an hour should be enough to chill it safely, then move it to the regular refrigerator to avoid getting a soda explosion on your freezer
