Did you pay any attention to the dialogue between Tidus and Wakka? especially at the beginning of the game, it's very obvious.

I can still remember the line:
Wakka: Hey. Don't be gettin' no ideas, ya.
Tidus: No promises there, big guy.

And the way it's said seals the deal. I had an idea before that line, but I knew it after that line.
