Default Me, my PS2, and region unlock

Okay, I am just going to cut to the chase: Where can I buy the Mod Chip for the PS2 that unlocks region-lock? (If I cannot ask this question because it goes against the rules, please ignore. I will accept any consequences afterwards). Please, no Ebay or questionable sellers

Also, what import-only games do you recommend for the PS2? Would prefer games that aren't too reliant on the Japanese (they can be text heavy so long as I have a clue what's going on)?

Those are my two questions. Thx bye.

Well, to get a mod-chip you're going to have to get it done in someone's backyard or back of some dodgey store. I personally went with Swap Magic as it is safe and very easy to use and gets the same results.

As for import-only games, it depends where you live.

    What is Swap Magic?

It's a boot disk. I would have thought you'd google it if you were interested.

The cheapest way to mod your PS2 is to buy the chip online and do it yourself. Find a guide online and follow it step by step and you should be fine. I used swap magic for a while but to be honest it just damages your PS2 and is a nuisance.

As for import games, get Namco X Capcom. Might be a little text heavy but there are guides online which should help you. Well worth it.

May also want to give this Momento thing a look. It's another regional lockout solution that doesn't involve operating on your PS2, plus it has a few other advantages. It might be a bit pricier than Swap Magic, though.

I've used swapmagic myself, it does it's job letting you play foreign games you've imported

That memento thing looks interesting though, although the dependancy on the type of memory card it works on seems to be a limiting factor Is it really more expensive? It seems like you can download it from it's website, though getting it onto the memory card might be another matter

Problems playing downloaded videos? Try CCCP

That memento thing seems like the only real alternative to a real modchip.

I got that swap magic thing at first, but I later got a modchip for my machine. It is vastly superior.

Now just a few days ago, i also got my hands on the (in europe) very rare hard disk/network adapter module. I got it without the actual hard drive though, but it supports almost any standard 3.5" IDE drive. And I just so happened to have a few of those lying around.

Now, PS2 games loaded off of a hard drive, that's sexy. And incredibly fast, considering a hard drive can fill up the entire PS2 memory in just about 3 seconds :p, meaning you'd probably never ever experience loading times of more than 2 seconds at a time anymore, and usually much less than that. Persona 3 never loads for more than 0.5 or so seconds between areas, and SC3 loads so fast that the characters hardly have enough time to shout their battle taunts.
