Well, Aeris is an anagram of Raise, which is why they will use Aeris in the remake as it's possible to Raise (or Resurrect if you like) her in that game.So Aerith. :P
But srsly, I don't care about the silly japanese, it's Aeris dammit.
But, Square has been ignoring it's lisp demographic who have no choice but to say "Raithe..."
doesn't matter to me, but I would prefer the original US/PS interpretation.
