Really? I'm curious how much better the animation can get compared to DVD...

Well the "animation" wouldn't be any different, it'd just be a clearer, sharper picture on an HD display.

Blu Ray really isn't any different in quality from a DVD 99% of the time if you're watching it on a standard definition display. But if you watch a DVD on an HD display that isn't tiny, it looks horrible.

My Platinum Edition DVD of The Little Mermaid looks pretty good on Jeremy's big, high-definiton TV, but the DVD of The Little Mermaid that I gave him when I bought my Platinum Edition doesn't look very good.

I thought it was one of the more boring of the Disney classics. I prefer TLM.

Yeah, it's definitely my least favorite of the "Disney Princess" films.

I've never been a big fan of Disney's old princess movies. Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, etc.

Sleeping Beauty especially never interested me. I only watched the movie once or twice waaay back during my childhood.

Same. I only watched Sleeping Beauty and Snow White once or twice during my childhood.

I watched Cinderella like a trillion times though between ages 3 and 23. Hmm.

Pocahontas is tied with The Little Mermaid as my second favorite Disney movie.

I like Sleeping Beauty. Although it's flawed, it definitely has many good sides. The animation is beautiful, and the backgrounds are stunning (almost to a fault; sometimes characters are lost in the lush backgrounds). George Bruns's adaptation of Tchaikovsky's ballet for the music is commendable in its complexity and works quite well (gotta love "Once Upon a Dream"). The film also offers us Maleficent, one of the most memorable Disney villains ever. I enjoy the Medieval feel of the story and although it focuses a lot on other characters than Aurora (thus leaving Aurora rather "flat"), it's nevertheless a compelling film which shows us what the beauty of animation can do.

Depending on the definition of 'classic', the answer is different. If we talk about the Disney animated canon (which is often referred to as Disney Animated Classics and which so far consists of films from Snow White to Bolt), then Sleeping Beauty was preceded by Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons on Blu-Ray. But if you're referring to the "revered" status of a film from a Disney animated canon, then it could be argued that Sleeping Beauty is indeed the first Disney "classic" on Blu-Ray.
