Thread: Last movie you watched and your critique of it

Truly terrible. The opening scene looked good with an action scene that played in reverse, and it actually offered some promise. Then there was a summary of what had happened in the previous films, but that was pretty much incomprehensible so didn't help at all. At this point I started to get very confused. What followed was a series of scenes (I hesitate to call it a film) that were linked by having the same characters, but apparently not by the same plot. The director had obviously spent all his time watching the Matrix series and trying to copy that slow-mo thing that was popular 10 years ago, but had forgotten to finish (or, more likely, start) a script.

Milla Jovovich was good, however. She's got the kind of physical presence that actually allows you to believe that she could pull off the action scenes.

    "Great"

I was little irked by some of the turns, but this is a movie based on a long line of cartoons which were based on a longer line of Hasbro toys. As such, I loved the action scenes, the injected bits of comedy especially from Willis and, while one of the central plot-twists felt horribly forced, I appreciated the results. Obviously, there should be a third film and I would hope that some characters who were not present would return.
    Jack: How do you know?

Will: It's more of a feeling really.

Jack: Well, that's not scientific. Feeling isn't knowing. Feeling is believing. If you believe it, you can't know because there's no knowing what you believe. Then again, no one should believe what they know either. Once you know anything that anything becomes unbelievable if only by virtue of the fact you now... know it. You know?

    Will: No.

If Demolition Man were remade today

Huxley: What's wrong? You broke contact.
Spartan: Contact? I didn't even touch you.
Huxley: Don't you want to make love?
Spartan: Is that what you call this? Why don't we just do it the old-fashioned way?
    Huxley: NO!
    Spartan: Whoa! Okay, calm down.
Huxley: Don't tell me to calm down!
Spartan: What's gotten into you? 'Cause it sure as hell wasn't me.
Huxley: Physical relations in the way of intercourse are no longer acceptable John Spartan.
Spartan: What? Why the hell not?
Huxley: It's the law, John. And for your information, the very idea that you suggested it makes me feel personally violated.
Spartan: Wait a minute... violated? Huxley what the hell are you accusing me of here?
Huxley: You need to leave, John.
    Spartan: But Huxley.
    Huxley: Get out!
Moments later Spartan is arrested for "violating" Huxley.

By the way, that's called satire. Get over it.

    Elite Squad - 5/5
A friend of mine from FFXIV bugged me to watch this movie ages ago, and I downloaded it but never got around to it. I have a day home alone, though, so I thought I may as well give it a watch. Definitely worth it. The subtitles I had on were kind of crap, but the storyline was all there and I just have to say that there is nothing that I found bad about this movie. At all. I can't think of a single thing I could fault. Not my favourite movie of all time by any means but it's definitely one I'd suggest other people see if they have a moment. If you liked City of God, you might like this.

I think I'll have to watch the second one, now, apparently it's just as good if not better.

    Finished watching The Prophecy. I liked it to an extent, as much as someone can like an old angel-horror movie from the 90's, and loved Christopher Walken as a bad guy. I'd watch the sequels and probably watch it again so;

    Django Unchained. 8/10.

Some cracking performances in this. Christoph Waltz is always worth a watch and Jamie Foxx is quite possibly the coolest human being on the planet. There were quite a few uncomfortable scenes to watch which is to be expected in a Tarantino film. I preferred this to Inglorious Basterds.

Olympus Has Fallen. It touches "so bad it's good" territory.

Harvey Dent is finally president but North Korean terrorists take over the White House with one war plane and less than 100 people with smoke grenades and guns. ALL the secret service and security in the White House is dead, and the president along with a few randoms and the other two people with the Cerberus codes are hostage. It is up to ex-secret service agent Gerald looksdamnfineinabluesuit Butler to rescue them and Speaker of the House God Morgan Freeman to buy time for him.

In this movie you will see several skulls get shanked and wonder "hey, don't you have a gun? Bad guy only has knives, pull an Indiana Jones!"
Best line: "I know you have a wife. She works at the hospital no?" "Hey how about we play a game of smurf off. You start"

Really loved the characters and the storyline was awesome, I give it a five out of five instead of a four because it made me cry, it made a single manly tear slip down my cheek when Jack was hugged for the first time ever.

You should know better than to watch a video game movie.
Watched Do the Right Thing in class yester, never fully saw the whole thing before. Spike had some weird camera choices and story progressions. Overall it was aiight. Robin Harris made it more enjoyable.

    I Spit on Your Grave

Lol, it was what it was. The first half of the film was incredibly uncomfortable to sit through, and even though the acting wasn't particularly good the content was so foreign to me that I almost felt I had to just take the movie on its word, maybe some people are sick enough to do things like that. That did make the second half of the film very satisfying though. As violent as it all got the revenge was...imaginative at least, and if you're someone who can handle graphic violence in movies then this is quite passable.

It was brutal and yet entertaining. Dredd's coolness was probably my favourite element of the movie.

You mean Tropa de Elite? Yeah the second one is much better - it provides a closer look on how completely rotten the Brazilian state apparatuses are, and how the poverty and drug problems of the favelas are directly tied to it, rather than the played out "badass cops vs evil drug dealer" storyline.
This twenty-year-old boy was distinguished from childhood by strange qualities, a dreamer and an eccentric. A girl fell in love with him, and he went and sold her to a brothel...

Yeah, I really enjoyed how it wasn't a simple case of good guy vs. bad guy in the first movie. If the second covers it in an even deeper way, sounds good to me.

    Evil Dead (the new one).

    5 chainsaws out of 5.

Really not much I can say about this other than it is the best horror movie I've seen in years and don't see it if you aren't prepared for some amazingly gruesome and gory scenes.

Seriously? Was it amazing because of the film entirely or because of the gore?

I would really love to see a good modern horror movie. I'm picky as trout.
