I remember a time when this speech was written by Psychotic, DK and Rantz. It was an awesome speech where three heavily underqualified men sat down and discussed artwork by the nominees with some kind of false air of dignity. Imagine, if you will, three hooligans sat around a table in a swanky gentlemen's club. They just seemed out of place, but wasn't it just the best concept ever. I yearn for those times, my friends, I yearn for them.

Instead, now, you have me, a man with even less artistic talent or knowledge then the three buffoons and very little ideas on how to approach this venture. If I were more enthused, I might attempt to round up some buffoons of my own and recreate the speeches from yore. Sadly, I have not the time, effort or buffoons necessary. Perhaps next Ciddies I will attempt this. I have considered critiquing the work myself, but feel that I am so uneducated on the nature of art that it would be an insult to these fine artists. I was given strange looks the other day for talking about why I don't understand modern art. Yes, I'm that idiot who goes to art galleries and says "I don't get it."

Instead, I have opted for something a little bit simpler. The Ciddies is a time of excitement, of mayhem. Everything is going fast, high energy. Sometimes you just need to take a break, relax and enjoy yourself. Bronies are likely responsible for this nomination, but who's to judge them? Pinkie Pie is indeed the partiest of all party ponies and this signature shows just how crazy she is. Plus it's animated, and people do love animated signatures.

Del Murder's signature has not changed much from the moment he had the image made for him from the long lost member Mindflare, or was it someone else? I'm not sure, but the Enforcer of EoFF is proud of it and it's still around to remind us that Del Murder is not only enforcer, but a godfather as well. It's a true classic and still among the best signatures ever.

The Sexiest Male category seems to have disappeared from sight, which is good news. While there are plenty of hunky hunks for the ladies to dribble over, it's far better for me because I now have a good chance at winning. I'm not going to beat out the likes of Rantz for being tough and viking-like, but I have a cute little smile that makes all the ladies coo. Unfortunately, being cute doesn't have that many perks. I mean sure, I can win one forum award twice a year, but when you go out on the town all the ladies are looking at the guys with big biceps and a six pack and giant c...cash supplies. You’ve just found this cool site about Final Fantasy (isn’t that an oxymoron?) and you’ve signed up to join in the fun and already you’re being approached by some whackjob named Loony BoB who, despite a join date of August 2000, has some kind of Newbie tag attached to his name. You respond to his rather speedy welcome with a curt “thanks” and hurry along to the forums. What’s this? Wonder Square? And a description that reminds you of Final Fantasy VII, the greatest game of all timeFFVI is the best game What luck! You head inside to post an introduction thread and see what the rest of the people here are like.

You’ve just made the second biggest mistake of your life. Not only did you join one of the nerdiest places you could, you also just opened yourself up to an avalanche – pun intended – of “welcomes.” From the friendly Freya to the paedophilic Peegee, there is a swath of quirky characters to acquaint yourself with. Just don’t follow Sylvie down any dark alleyways. Don’t be afraid to say hello now that you’ve doomed yourself.

Being the Best Newbie is another matter altogether. It requires a few key ingredients, however I never did discover them and so I cannot share the secret. But I do have some tips to share with future newbies who might like to make use of my advice.

Step one, be memorable. You don’t need to be gimmicky, but be yourself – exaggerated if you must. If you rock up like Hypoallergenic Cactuar, you will always be remembered, sure. But you could also pull a Laddy and be so fabulously gay that people remember you and refrain from trying to hit you with fly swatters! It’s all about first impressions, and making sure you leave a good one – or at least a big one – will ensure you’ll be nominated for this award next Ciddies.

Step two, post! Nobody will know you if you’re quiet. Post a lot, post everywhere, and for Ifrit’s sake please try to post quality content. Only Psychotic can be a complete idiot and still have people respect him for it. And you’re not he, so don’t even try it, Buster.

Step three, have fun. I mean smurf it, if you’re not enjoying yourself then you might as well kill yourself now, right? You’ve survived being *sexor’d* and you’ve had your first double posting warning, get in there and see what it’s all about now.

Melissaur – She is not only one of the most active posters since joining EoFF, she is also a great #eoff chatter and all around positive person in EoFF. I have never seen anyone compliment a person more than she does in the picture threads and honestly I find it endearing. She participates in many of the events going on and has been a joy to have around. That, and her baby is a cutie pie.

The White Wizard of Fynn – If there is any example of what a great member is, it's him. He is literally everywhere. While most of our top posters are primarily in the General Forums, he posts in less popular forums like Final Fantasy V, but also in the beloved General Chat. It helps that he also makes some good threads on top of his posts. He's basically like the smexier version of Wolf Kanno. And yes, I've actually seen Wolf Kanno's face. It exists.

Laddy – When his house burned down a thread was dedicated to him and many of us signed a card expressing condolences. There's a reason for that. If Laddy were a complete dick, no one would've signed that card, let alone made a thread in his honor. He may look like Robert Plant and be a little eccentric, but he's got a heart of gold has spent copious amounts of time gracing us with his presence in the General Forums.

Bunny – His personality sticks out like a sore thumb. If you need your round of dry humor, he's the go-to-guy. I don't always agree with what he has to say, but I always respect the fact that he has the balls to say it. He's never fearless when it comes to voicing his opinion, and that's admirable. His posts make him a quality member as opposed to a quantity member, although he has his fair share of activity too.

Værn – He likes those ponies. Basically a cult of people who watch an animated show about ponies, so he's one of the cool kids. He must also be pretty manly for only a manly man can admit to liking such a show. As far as EoFF goes, he's been pretty active all year, although highly underrated at that. It's a surprise to me that he wasn't also nominated for that category, but such is life.

So let's hear it for 2012's (new?) vets!

The Best Recognized Member/Former Staff Ciddie is an interesting little contradiction. Two entirely different groups who are flung together and told to fight to the death over a single award. Pretty rough, if you ask me. But the differences between the two groups will provide an interesting analysis. Let’s take a look and see if there are any secrets to be found here.

Recognized Members attain their title through hard work and tireless contributions to Eyes on Final Fantasy. Their dedication is not enough to be rewarded with a staff position though. Is that because they’re not good enough? Not popular enough? Or was it just bad timing and there was no need for new staff members? Those aren’t questions that will be answered during this speech. In any case, the Recognized Members nominated for this award must be currently active and are most likely continuing whatever fantastic things they were doing to get their title in the first place. You rock on, Recognized Members.

Former Staff is kind of a bollocks title. I know that some people like it. At the very least the title is an alright colour, so I can tolerate it. But it’s awarded to people following the end of their contributions. It’s a “thank you” for services, but you’re no longer required. Pretty harsh. Former Staff are the old dogs who can’t learn any new tricks, and the tricks we do know are no longer up to scratch. What could we possibly have to offer that warrants nomination for this award? Surely if we were still doing good tit we’d be offered another spot on staff, right? In before “Jiro’s just butthurt about not being on staff.” It’s a legitimate question.

At the end of the day, it feels like an arbitrary category. Better to have a category for best events host or something of the sort, whatever contribution it is that brought us to this position in the first place. Regardless, for all my suggestions, there is still one glaring point that we have not drawn attention to yet. This award – despite the nominations, despite everything – belongs to the one and only Agent Proto. There is not a man here who, after departing the position of Cid’s Knight, has continued to provide fun and entertainment to Eyes on Final Fantasy. Without detracting from the other nominees, we all need to recognize that Agent Proto is a badass and his continued support is something we should be grateful for. And should you all be perfectly idiotic and award this to someone else, at least I’ve taken this opportunity to publically acknowledge him. Cram Rock it, Proto.

Who is the best Editor/Developer/Tech Admin? I would love to tell you, but I wouldn’t have a clue. How can we have a category which is effectively “who is the best miscellaneous staff member?” It boggles the mind. It’s like asking who the best runner of all time is and including a bunch of horses and dogs. Simply put, none of these roles are important enough to be given their own Ciddie but you need to pick one of them anyway. Well we’d better start by figuring out what exactly all these people do, hadn’t we?

Editors are our frontsite content creators. They design the news and features and wonderful things that end up there for our reading pleasure. They are the beacon that attracts newcomers and the informants that keep them coming back. Editors are wizards of words and must keep our minds abuzz with the latest and greatest news and knowledge from around the world. Sounds pretty good to me.

Developers are the artists of the webpage. They keep the hidden coding fresh and fierce and ensure that our site not only looks sharp as a tack but runs like a Jamaican with rocket boots. Their deeds are hidden from us – generally – and yet without their work we would have very little to look at in the first place! Bearing the same green coloured title as the Senior Site Staff of yore, let us pray that they do not fall into the same curse of being accused of nothing when they do so much!

Tech Admins are the most hidden of all, as they are the last bastions of hope when all is lost. The recent server move was conducted by none other than a Tech Admin, and these specialists are always prepared to dedicate their immense skillset and knowledge to ensuring all tech issues are dealt with efficiently. Sadly, few of them post these days, so you are not likely to see them around to give a hearty “cheers boy” or even a “kia ora.” Regardless, their contributions, though not frequent and rarely seen, are also appreciated by all, I am sure.

As a former Cid's Knight and past winner of Best Cid's Knight, I feel it is my duty to write a speech for Best Cid's Knight. However, the current line-up is rather small with only four members and lacks any manliness that past line-ups had. (I'm sorry Wolf Kanno, but you're in the minority and the ladies outnumber you three to one!) However, that doesn't mean none of them deserve to win Best Cid's Knight. Remember folks, there's always a Best Cid's Knight, so who is the best among the current CKs?

fire_of_avalon: Current bad ass of the bunch. She doesn't take crap from anyone! Let's also not forget that behind that tough-gal look, she's also a very nice lady! She won last time, so can she repeat her win, or will we see a new victor for Best CK?

Shiny: She's a movie buff, so you can expect her to talk about movies and other forms of entertainment at the Lounge. She's probably a long-shot to win, but you can't underestimate the power of Shiny!

Pike: The ever so popular robot is beloved by many! She proved that one can become CK if they date MILF to be true. If there is to be a close race, I think it would be between Pike and foa, with WK in there as well. Don't forget to bring up SMAC in your posts so she can rep them! (Looking at you Vivi22!!)

Wolf Kanno: The only male CK remaining. He should provide foa some very tough challenge for Best CK as he would likely get plenty of support from the guys who probably want to see a male CK win this Ciddie. He doesn't just deserve this award for being a guy, but he's also one of the better CKs who also ventures the lower Final Fantasy forums and not just the General forums that consist of General Chat and such.

Del Murder: For years now, Del Murder’s main roles as admin have been to occasionally entertain us with one-liners and to post in Feedback threads that he is letting Rantzien know of the problem. He also is the best staff member for pranks and hijinks, but none in the last six months (that I’m aware of…).

Loony BoB: The former heart and soul of EoFF, Daniel has recently taken to doing nothing but stroking his piece of wood and staring at his hair collection. It’s quite sad.

Rantz: The only admin who seems to do anything productive on the forums, Rantz has single-handedly kept EoFF from collapsing due to glitches, server errors, and horrendous load times.

As we come to the award for best female I hear many of you saying "Who cares!?"
Well every year, the staff throw this award ceremony for the members called The Spring fling Ciddies. And whomsoever is elected best male and female automatically becomes head of the Eoff Bragging Committee. And since I am an active member of the Eoff Bragging Committee, I would say, yeah, I care!

We have a wide range of nominees this year who like to hang around The Girly Forum, but they have verys strict rules as to who can post with them, like if one of them were wearing jeans today, they'd have to hang out at Relm's Studio. On Wednesdays they use Fluffy Puff.

And finally, the nominees for Best Female are as follows:

Shlup (She's the Queen Bee, though I think people are only voting for her because she was hit by a bus)

Shorty (I think she has ESPN or something, her breasts can always tell when it's raining. One time she asked me how to spell "orange")

Pike (She knows everything about everyone. That's why her hair is so big. It's full of secrets. Im sure she wanted to wear the super fetch pair of hoop earing she has but Shlup wont let her)
