Dordeduh - [Dar de Duh #06] Zuh [13:46]
Solid album, don't get what all the bitching's about. Sounds like Negura Bunget? No trout; it's two thirds of the classic lineup, including the main songwriter. What exactly were you expecting?
This is one of the few times I was able to restrain myself from listening to an album leak before my copy came in. Of course the fact that it only leaked a few days before I got my copy probably helped.

Sleep is awesome. The best way to hear that material is Southern Lord's Dopesmoker 2LP, though.
I missed this earlier but recently I was turned towards Dopesmoker on the grounds that it was epic. I listened to 30 minutes of it and was supremely disappointed at its plodding repetition. Should I have waited it out?
Grizzly Bear - Veckatimest. Such a weird smurfing album but there are some tracks I adore. Everyone owes it to themselves to watch the video for Two Weeks.
edit: Redpill - been hearing a lot of hype about Kendrick Lamar. Is it must-listen? I've been a little burned out on hip hop lately aside from some of Lupe's older stuff. I could use a fresh face in my collection.

I dunno, you sort of have to be in the right frame of mind for it. If you're not, you're not, but the point is to create a sort of almost manic trance through repetition. It's quite likely that many people will need chemical aids to appreciate it fully :monster:

edit: Redpill - been hearing a lot of hype about Kendrick Lamar. Is it must-listen? I've been a little burned out on hip hop lately aside from some of Lupe's older stuff. I could use a fresh face in my collection.I don't know what I think of Kendrick overall, really. I listen to some of his songs and I'm like "damn, trout is tight" and some of the other songs I'm like "meh". Give "Swimming Pools (Drank)" and "Cut You Off (To Grow Closer)" a listen. Those are my two favorites from what I've heard.
If you want a fresh face, I would really recommend Hopsin if you haven't listened to him at all. Unlike Kendrick, almost all of his songs impress me:
Hopsin - Ill Mind Of Hopsin 4 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bULBnef6w6k)
Hopsin - ILL MIND OF HOPSIN 5 - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hRVOOwFNp5U)
Also, Jay Electronica if you haven't bumped him yet:
Jay Electronica - Exhibit C (Prod. Just Blaze) (CDQ) - YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lrVO3pPDP4)

The screaming is still a bit of a bother in some songs, but the moments when he gets his melody lines right are just glorious and make up for all that nonsense. It has a lot to do with how great this particular band are musically though, more so than me liking this style of music. I will concede that you told me so when it came to Periphery though ;D

If you want to listen you can stream it here (http://verdant-realm-botanist.bandcamp.com/album/iii-doom-in-bloom-allies). The first disc of this is a hammered dulcimer metal project called Botanist. The first and third releases are black metal, more or less, just with hammered dulcimer replacing the traditional rôle of guitar and bass; this release is doom metal. Each release adds more distortion to the mix as well. The second disc of this release is a series of songs composed by friends of the band based around drum tracks from the album. Most of these are also doom metal, but they are more traditional doom metal compositions, with guitar and bass. Botanist is phenomenal and most of the artists who contributed to this are also quite great.

Shining - [Live Blackjazz #06] Winterreise [6:14]
Different Shining than the above (this one is Norwegian; the other one is Swedish). I need this on vinyl. The mastering on the CD is terrible and declipping only gets rid of so much of the distortion, but Indie Recordings always do a good job with their LPs in my experience. Plus there's an extra track that isn't on the CD.
There isn't another group that sounds like Norwegian Shining. They are probably inimitable.
