It is amazing. But probably not as good without friends and alcohol.

It is amazing. But probably not as good without friends and alcohol.
I want to punch Tim Burton in the face right now.
Thirst. Well, it started off promising. Park Chan-wook should stick to revenge.
I enjoyed the rules popping up as well. Same scoring for me I suppose!
Repo! The Genetic Opera. I only watched parts of this but jesus it was insane. I don't know if it was good or it was just the novelty that won me over, but you all need to watch this xD
Alice in Wonderland
3/10
Basically, I share the opinion of most people in this thread in regards to Alice in Wonderland. It was just pretty crap. I usually adore Tim Burton films, but this was just ugh. The cheesiness factor, the boringness factor. It was just meh. I think instead of re-creating stories that have been done countless times before, he should probably begin to work with people who can write original screenplays like Edward Scissorhands.
Yes, but it briefly reenacts some of the events in the book.
I've had issues with most of Tim Burton's live action movies. Visually they have always been wonderful eye candy but the stories have rarely matched them. His best movies have been animated. Ed Wood is my favorite of his live action movies, followed by Sleepy Hollow.
Serenity - Decent sci-fi movie with some decent fight scenes and wonderful one-liners. I get the feeling I would have gotten more out of the film if I actually watched Firefly but I sorta felt like we were seriously dropped into the middle of things. Mostly, I'm annoyed that its never explained why River was taken by the Alliance and turned into a living weapon. Its sorta just seems to be there simply as an excuse to move the story forward and is never elaborated on. I can't really give it a score cause I feel like I'm missing the big picture and if I were a Firefly fan, I'd be able to follow it better and enjoy it more.
Memories - This is a pretty sweet anime film by the guy who did Akira, its three animated short stories and each one is radically different from the other but compelling in their own ways. The first story is probably my least favorite, its actually quite good but not as enjoyable as the other two stories. The second tale is probably my favorite and easily the funniest tale that really brought back fond memories of some of the weird anime you could get a hold of in the late 80's and early 90's. The last tale tells the simplest story but its really the background events that you see as the main story goes along that paints a much more sophisticated tale than the other two. Its also unique cause its animation style feels more like something out of European animation than Japanese. Overall, it was a great film with three stellar stories behind it. :D
Serenity is much better after you've watched Firefly, which you should do as soon as possible as it's one of the rare television shows that lives up to the hype. For one thing, the Alliance's interest in River is much better explained in the series; it's pretty much taken as a given that you'd know why they were after her when watching the film.
That's what I figured, which is why I didn't really want to judge it too harshly.
Punch-Drunk Love
8/10
Hrm, well I have seen this movie before, but I was too young at the time to get the wittiness of it. Philip Seymour Hoffman as usual is great as his d-bag of a character. This movie is a great quirky, romantic comedic. It's up there with 500 Days of Summer. The script is probably my favorite part about it. The lines are just like "wut" at times. I loved it despite the fact that Adam Sandler can be annoying in other movies like that crappy one, You Don't Mess With the Zohan.
How High
So freakin funny. Loved it. 5/5
The Time Traveler's Wife
Wicked badass. It's a chick flick yeah but it's time travel man! Really, really great. 10/10
I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell, which is loosely based off the book of the same name by Tucker Max. It is, quite possibly, one of the worst movies I have ever seen. Seriously. Absolutely no redeeming quality to the entire film whatsoever.
0/10.
Ninja Assassin - It was pretty bloody and badass and I want to beat people up now.
4/5 cause of all the awesome ninja fights
The Five Deadly Venoms. A martial arts classic. When I saw this for the first time at college, it was the humorous bad dub. Now that I've seen the Chinese language version I can better appreciate the artistry that went into it.
A dying martial arts master sends his novice student to check on five former students, all of whom have mastered a technique based on a poisonous animal: snake, scorpion, centipede, gecko, and toad. Naturally some are using their powers for personal gain, so it pits the good ones versus the bad ones.
It's both literally and allegorically about poison: the way that people can easily be bought and corrupted by wealth and power.
Alice in Wonderland - 9.5/10, suckers
It was pretty and neat and Alice was a badass and everything was fancy and big mushrooms and dorky gingers and it only didn't get a perfect score because of the Hatter's freaky ginger make-up.
I just saw Memento, it was a cool story told in a cool way. (915/1000)
How To Train Your Dragon
This was such a cute movie. Pretty good overall. 4/5
Case 39
Awful film. Being a social work student, I can tell you all that the interventions are horrible. I hate how social work is always negatively potraryed in films, and I watched this hoping that it wouldn't be the case because the main character is a social worker, but no.
My girlfriend watched it with me and she's not a social worker, and her unclouded judgement is that it was stupid movie too. Not scary at all.
1/5
Alice in Wonderland
6/10
The beginning and end part were really neat and awesome, outside the horrible popping dance in the end, wtf was that? The queen was very nicely done.
The Crazies -- Crap. The original Romero version is probably infinitely better. The scene with the saw and the doctor was tense and interesting at least. As for the the acting, it wasn't the worse in horror film history. 4/10
Whiteout -- Crap. The only thing I can say it excels in is being incredibly mundane. And what's with Kate Beckinsale always doing movies with snow in them? I didn't even bother finishing it because I stopped caring. The characters are not endearing enough and it's difficult to figure out what exactly is going on at a givern time. 3/10
The Bad Mother's Handbook -- The only reason I watched this is because an RP fan told me to. I usually hate British films except for amazing ones like Shaun of the Dead. This was a made for t.v. movie and upon looking at it one can tell. It had some random instances where techno music would just start playing for seemingly no reason, but really enjoyed it in all of it's simplicity. I am actually surprised I enjoyed it since half of the time I wanted to destroy the people because I thought their accents were annoying. But chyeah, nice little story, eccentric characters, and witty dialogue. 7/10
Repo Man -- In progress. So far it's intriguing. A plot containing characters that repossess people's organs, as gross as it sounds, is at least an original idea.
Blow
A Johnny Depp movie with him playing George Jung, the dude who basically created the cocaine industry in America. Great movie, sad ending. Worth a watch. 8/10
Wall-E
Great movie and hella adorable. Pixar rules.
Clash of the Titans
Well, it was actually very good, aside from the fact that the directors totally screwed over mythology (if you ever see it, you'll know what I mean). The special effects were awesome, especially the (SPOILER)Kraken, although the lightning looked pretty fake. Lots of action and battle scenes with some gore. Giant killer monsters were very well animated, too.
I watched My neighbor Totoro the other day. still has the magic that makes it a delightful adventure fit for all ages. 11/10
Avatar
You know how good it feels, when you pwn someone who is better than you in a game? Ya, that's how I felt watching this movie haha. :zombie:
How to Train Your Dragon - IMAX 3D
Good fun. No talking animals, no pop culture references. Great flight sequences, often from a familiar and effective 'video game' perspective. Pretty good soundtrack too.
Probably my 2nd favourite Dreamworks-animated film, just behind Prince of Egypt.
Clash of the Titans, 3D. The acting was meh, the battle scenes with less significant enemies were too long, the battle scenes with (SPOILER)the Kraken and Hades were way, WAY too short, and there really weren't enough 3D special effects to make it worth the extra money. I was incredibly disappointed.
Kame Hame-Ha!
Dragon Ball Evolution
I didn't expect too much of it. I knew it is hard to make a good movie about a manga or fighting story like Dragon Ball. The only really good fighting game movie is Mortal Kombat but now I have watched Dragon Ball and it is really entertaining. Of course they had to change some things for the story and so there are even plotholes. But that's not the point. The movie itself deserves more than people want to admit. Who really thinks this movie should be like the original manga/anime which means you have to watch Goku 30 minutes while he just stands there to get his Ki higher or wants super mega special effects should simply give them enough money to do so. The story itself is good enough. You cannot use exactly the same story the manga has. Not if you begin with the adult Goku. And the manga introduces the 18 years old adult Goku in the Budokai Tenkaichi. This would be boring for some people as well.
Not to forget I love the final attack of Piccolo and Goku.
I just got done watching Paprika, my first exposure to Satoshi Kon's work. I enjoyed it quite a bit, too. Beautiful and bizarre. I can't really say anything negative about it outside of the fact that it confused me a lot at a few parts, but I'm guessing that within the context of the film, that was sort of intentional.
Shutter Island
A good film. Not as twisty as the director thinks it is (every next step is pretty obvious), and you already know what the major twist will be about 10 minutes in. Nonetheless the journey there was good fun and very interesting. Whoever did the music, however, needs to be shot in the face. And I genuinely mean that. It was hideous and almost ruined the film.
Kickass (I watched this twice in two days)
Yeah. Watch this film. Watch it now. Stop reading these :bou::bou::bou::bou:ty little reviews and go out and watch the bloody film. It's smurfing perfect.
Those are movies that I paid to watch. My friends and I usually sneak into a second movie, however, to get back at the extortionate cinema. It's awesome. The films we snuck into are thus:
Clash of the Titans
THERE IS NO CLASHING OF ANY TITANS IN THIS FILM. The mythology is false, but they said that it wasn't based off the mythology and that they just took some names out and made whatever the hell they wanted, so you can't fault them that. The acting was bad. The action was average. The script and the entire plot was average. Anyone who can figure out what the smurf Perseus' accent was supposed to be actually wins the universe. Overall, it's an extremely average crappy action film. I wouldn't pay to watch it, but I didn't so it's cool and I could watch through the whole film.
The same cannot be said for The Bounty Hunter.
I honestly can't think of words to describe what an awful film this is. We walked out 20 minutes in because it was absolutely terrible in every way possible. It's so bad that I WOULDN'T WATCH IT FOR FREE. Seriously. Eurgh, it's just awful.
Donnie Darko.
Wow. This is an impressive film. Keeps you second guessing to the end, and even then, there are two possible ways to explain what the heck was going on. Thematically it most reminds me of Jacob's Ladder, although more ambivalent theologically.
Frank was one of the coolest characters I've ever seen.
2001: A space odyssey
not sure what to think of it. Visually a great movie, but the plot kind of went down the drain at the end.
Right now I'm in the middle of an 80s movie marathon evening. And watched The Monster Squad for the first time ever. Its kinda like if the Goonies had to face down Dracula and a horde of cliche but well-created movie monsters (a swamp monster, a werewolf, a mummy, and Frankenstein monster). Really good stuff, and the fact that I loved it leads me to believe there was just something about 80s cinema that did something right in my eyes, and my love of 80s movies isn't just nostalgia. I wonder what it is we lost over the years
Clash of the Titans: Remake of a cheesy 80's film loosely based on Greek Myth and featuring stop motion animation. The remake has full cgi and while the monsters are impressive (well, except Medusa) this movie actually cuts away more of the plot than the original did.
Why is Hades the bad guy? He actually enjoys being the ruler of the underworld specifically because he doesn't have to deal with Zeus and all the other idiots on Mt. Olympus. The bother who was pissy about getting screwed was Poseidon and he's easily the biggest asshole of the male gods in Greek Myth.
Outside of some witty puns and small jokes the dialogue and script for the film is just as cheesy as the original, even Liam can't save the script from how bad it was. Not to mention they changed the whole ending and created a bull:bou::bou::bou::bou: happy ending.
Watch it for the monsters and fight scenes. Not for the acting, plot, or love of Greek Myth. God of War is more accurate than this film.
Yeah, S. Darko is a sack of :bou::bou::bou::bou:e really. It's unnecessary for everything.
S. Darko is like the same exact movie, but done terribly.
Given how much closure the first movie has, any sequel is unecessary anyway.
As for 2001, read the book if you want answers. The movie adaptation is more about questions.
The last two movies I watched were Run, Fatboy, Run and Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn. The former was funnier than hell, and I had never seen the latter all the way through, though I knew what happened in it.
KAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHN!!!!!
Clash of the Titans (2010)
Not terrible but not very good either, and certainly does not do the original justice.
3/5
I actually really enjoyed S.Darko. Its not Donny. But it struck a lot of the right notes for me. But you probably have to be in the right mindset. I think a lot of people who hate it didn't want a sequel and were looking to hate it from the onset. Yeah, Donnie tied everything up. But its not trying to go back and answer questions or anything
Hot Tub Time Machine
This movie was so funny. Completely crazy but funny. I love the black guy so much.
Afterlife
6/10
Mmm, well, so many things to say. First of all, this is a thriller and like most thrillers it will leave you going, "Wait...what." It's one of those psychological thrillers with subtley and moments where you don't really know what's real and what's fiction. However, even with that, you could still probably guess in the beginning of the movie what was going on before it even got to that point. I'm starting to notice a trend of psychological thrillers that I've also noticed with films like Shutter Island, is that they give TOO much away.
Basically, they hint too much. It seems that in today's cinema there's no The Sixth Sense nor is there a Psycho. There were also lots of awkward mistakes, but the oddest were the plot holes that's some how okay in today's cinema because it's a thriller. No, you don't need everything explained to you point blank, but logistics are a must. I felt like this was trying too hard to confuse people and have it go around in circles and the whole time I was sitting there frustrated because I knew damn well WHAT THE DEAL WAS. And the deal is...no, you have to go see it.
I can't promise that you'll like the movie and it's gratuitious use of nudity -- no it's not sexy because Christina Ricci is a creepy bish and so is that little demented kid. However, I can promise that you will have moments where you think one thing is one way and then it automatically changes and will keep changing throughout the remainder of the film, but just pay close attention and you'll get it unless you're retarded. Bottom line: Good edge of your seat thriller, but by no means as good as The Sixth Sense or the original Psycho.
I saw three of the strangest movies the past couple days.
Four Rooms
One of Quinton Taratino's older movies. Mind you, I'm not really a fan of his movies, but this one is amazing. It's about a bellhop who has 4 different rooms to deal with on New years, and he is the only one working.
He deals with a coven of witches, a crazy guy with a gun, two misbehaving kids, and a movie star. The movie is just flat out hilarious, with one of the most satisfying ending's I've seen for a while. This is one of Taratino's only two movies I enjoy, the other being inglorios Bastards. If you are into darker kinds of humour, you'll get a massive kick out of this movie.
Pootie Tang
...This is just freaking hilarious. It's crazy, over the top, and at times cheesy as hell. definately not for anyone, but I loved every moment of it.
Frankenhooker
I :bou::bou::bou::bou: you not this is a real movie. A guy's girlfriend is killed by a runaway lawnmower and he brings her back to life using the body parts of hookers, and it was glorious.
Definately a bit twisted in it's humour at times, but damn it's another one that had me laughing the entire way through it.
Dr. Strangelove
I guess it was pretty amusing. And like most of Kubricks movies it has that timeless feel about it that still makes it understandable for people that didn't live in that particular time period.
Date Movie
There was one really funny part, and other than that it was alright. Good plot for such a movie and lots of surprisingly good supporting parts played by random bigger names.
Reservoir Dogs
A brilliant movie, probably my favorite Tarantino film to date.
Man I haven't watched that movie in years but lord was it funny. :D
Recently watched Death at a Funeral which is a British comedy that's getting an American remake in another week. Very good movie which the remake will have a difficult time living up to. Sure the main plot twist is a bit predictable but it doesn't make the movie any less funny when its revealed. Its a great character piece with a handful of different scenario's all happening at once. ;)
I went to see Kick-ass earlier today. It was pretty funny but more violent than I expected. :jess:
I would give it like 7 or 8 out of 10.
i have checked it’s really great
Date Movie
Tina Fey is smurfing awesome. I thought this was a really funny movie and if I hadn't spoiled it for myself by wiki-ing it 10 minutes before it started while the commercials were running, I would've laughed more at the comedic twists.
8/10
Star Wars
(Episode IV, A New Hope)
downloaded the non-Special Edition version, and saw for the first time Han shooting first, no Jabba, etc.
the obvious greenscreening, inconsistant pronunciations, etc were still offputting, but infinitely endearing at this point, so I could enjoy the tricks of the dialog, follow the action during what I used to consider boring parts, and so forth.
etc I like ANH
I hadn't actually watched this movie in many years. I was newly impressed by the ingenuity and wit found in so much of the dialogue, and I was careful to observe statements that would later be retconned (Luke's father and his relationships to both Owen and Obi-Wan), as well as plot threads that were pared down from their original writing and production—either to be abandoned (Luke's friendship with Biggs) or embellished in the sequels (Han's debt to Jabba).
The special effects are still so impressive for 1977 as to renew my conviction that overwriting them with 1997/2004 effects is a misguided endeavor at best (and artless and disrespectful at worst).
I like HAN
Komodo vs. Cobra
3/10
This movie is so funny! Two giant reptiles fighting while campy actors shoot really tiny guns at them that don't even do anything. The special effects are spashully bad. The acting is horrid and it looks like it was filmed with a tourist's consumer camera. I don't even have to say anything about the storyline. The title should give away that it's ridiculous. It's indeed dire, but worth a watch if you're up for a laugh. The only reason I didn't give a one is because I recognized an actress from it and the sound effects -- although subpar were not the worst they could have been.
Date Night
Watched half of it. Not one laugh. The jokes were nothing special.
Astro Boy
It was a good movie but won't win any awards from the academy or anything. I only really watched it because I like Kristen Bell far more than the healthy requirement.
The Losers
It was a loser, despite having a few funny parts and good action.. For some reason I just couldn't get too into it.
Just got back from watching....
Iron Man 2
Look, I'm very biased toward superhero movies. I love most of them. And the first Iron Man film was right up at the top of that list. Unfortunately, we all know the plight of sequels and this film is no exception to the trend.
My main peeve with the film is the lack of action. And when the biff did come around, it wasn't spectacular. Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow gets the best fight scene of film, and that's not good enough for a movie full of big armoured suits and mechs. I was also keen to see Mickey Rourke's Whiplash play a big part of film and though plot-wise, he did, the pacing of the film leaves him only with a big entrance and big exit. The demi-villian of Justin Hammer seems to get more screen time than Paltrow, Johansson and Cheadle. We almost see as much of him as Downey himself and that just doesn't make sense to me, especially since he's mostly around for comic relief.
Only the presence of War Machine makes this a decent watch.
3/5
Aww shame was looking forward to it! I'll still watch it though and see for myself.
The Young Victoria was good,, but probably only if you're into that period of history. I now desire my very own Prince Albertin a can.
I'm going to go see Iron Man 2 next Friday so I'm going to pretend I didn't read the above review. D: I loved the first one!
Napoleon Dynamite
First watched a couple of years back and thought it was an inane piece of garbage. Rewatched it a couple of nights ago and it took on a whole new form of brilliance. Jon Heder does an excellent job as the goofy, socially inept Napoleon. My favourite character was Uncle Rico, his longing to return to his glory days of playing football was always funny to watch, especially when he demonstrates his abilities by throwing a steak at Napoleon's head.
Of course the plot is almost non-existant as you would expect in a movie like this. It also has that unique brand of humour that makes it impossible to tell whether someone will love or hate it when they watch. In my case it happened to be both.
The Hangover.
This was a funny, if raunchy film. But I'd put it in the same category as American Pie and There's Something About Mary, where you really care about the characters.
They explain about the tiger but never the chicken.
So, I went to a friends house and finally saw...
Avatar
I can't lie, it was an excellent movie but with a few downfalls. Of course, the main downfall is the lack of originality. It is easily recognized as a cowboys vs. indians movie...
The events in the movie was unrealistic. Think about it! If those such things happened in the future, how would the general public possibly support them?
Probably the biggest downfall is the fact that it was so overhyped. At the time the movie came out, I heard from multiple people claiming that it was the greatest movie of all time. In reality, Avatar was no where near the greatest movie ever.
I didn't see the movie in 3D which is alright because I hate 3D effects but the movie in 2D alone was stunning!
overall, I liked this movie but it was no where close to being the best movie ever.
3.5/5
Snakes on a Plane - It was ridiculous as expected. I think the company I had while watching it made the film that extra bit enjoyable, but being as soft as I am I couldn't help but cringe at several parts. Still, the notable lines in the film are exciting.
300 - I love this movie. It makes me feel warm inside. There is such a high concentration of badassity in it that it's almost crippling. And David Wenham is a smurfing babe. Also his speech makes me all emotional.
Iron Man 2 - I agree mostly with what Mo-Nercy said a few posts up. There was a lack of action. Scarlet Johanssan's fight scene was amazing, she kicked far too much ass. However I found the development of the new core far too unbelievable, but I'm not a sciencey kind of guy. Also the line referencing crocs almost ruined the entire movie (I hate those things), but the appearance of Samuel L. Jackson and the damn fine suits Robert Downey Jr. wears (not even including the Iron Man suit here) saved the day.
There was a reference to crocs?
Iron Man 2 - Pretty boring. Now before anyone says "Stark was really that eccentric in the comics and there were whole issues dealing with that alone", your not the first person to tell me, but do we really need a movie that shoves it down our throat for most of the running time? By the time it got to the action scenes I just didnt care anymore. I wouldn't even mind the lack of action if the plot was good, but there really wasn't anything to keep my interest, as the funny rapid-fire banter got old quick. The villian also seemed pretty underdeveloped, especially since his slightly exagerated motivation was revealed much later than the start of his so called 'revenge'.
I even saw it at IMAX. Sound a video quality were amazing but if the film doesn't do anything for me there I doubt i'll be buying the blu-ray.
A movie that was MUCH MUCH better is:
Kick-Ass. What an amazing movie. Its a near real life take and play on what it takes to become a superhero, dealing more with the consequences (getting stabbed and beaten up). I loved how it started as a comedy, to black comedy, to action/drama.
I was really surprised how invested I felt at the warehouse rescue scene.
The movie also had a slight Tarantino vibe to it with the re-use of other peoples music, which might turn some people off, but I thought they were excellent choices for the scenes and my heart was pumping as a result.
Also, I love Sunshine, 28 Days Later and John Murphy's soundtracks for those movies so it was an awesome bonus.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
I was about halfway through reading the book, and last night, I realized I had the avi on my old harddrive, so decided to watch it.
It kinda got on my nerves in parts, being slow or the drug-induced actions were frustrating, but the effects were very well-chosen, and I laughed when I saw that Terry Gilliam had directed it xD Spot-on!
In the Company of Men
Story of a complete bastard and another, relatively less so, complete bastard. They both decide to date a deaf co-worker just so that they can hurt her feelings somewhere down the road. She ends up falling in love with the complete bastard. The relatively less so complete bastard ends up falling in love with her. Everyone ends up having their heart broken, except the complete bastard who actually profits out of the entire affair.
That about sums it up. It was a decent watch.
In the Company of Men is a fantastic film. Good choice.
Whisper of the Heart.
A polished gem's life cut short.
saw 2 movies last night..
Moon (2009)
I'm fascinated by movies with a very small cast and I'm also very fascinated with movies with a very small set. This movie had both, so that was awesome.
8/10
Kick-ass
Awesome! I'm not a fan of superhero movies in general, so I really enjoyed this one. Greatness. Great soundtrack too, I rarely notice soundtracks in movies so that's gotta count for something.
9/10
2012
Saw this on Saturday. I liked it quite a bit. John Cusack has always been one of my favorite actors :D
Alice in Wonderland
What an awful film. The only saving grace about it was Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter. As much as I'm getting tired of the Burton/Depp/Carter menage a trois, I have to admit that both Depp and Carter were perfect for their roles. And they were both captivating while on screen. Everything else was a hot mess.
4/10
The Breakfast Club 6/10
It was an ok movie, but the way it ended was just sooo cheesy and unrealistic.
Robin Hood was almost unbearable. Robin Hood didn't become Robin Hood until he was like 50? Really? Russel Crowe is officially the most boring man ever. Lady Marian has embarrassed my entire gender. The merry men and Prince John were the only entertaining characters in this movie.
IT WAS A GREAT MOVIE AND YOU ARE A SAD PERSON.
Oh yeah, I saw Zombieland yesterday, too. It was stupid to the point that it was funny. Not funny enough to have me rolling in laughter, but funny enough that I wasn't bored. 6.5/10
Whisper of the Heart was so much better. :p
Dazed and Confused
9/10
What a fantastic movie. Should have found this sooner. Cool overall theme and stuff. Good stoner movie.
Robin Hood. Complete bore. 3/10 :(
Robin Hood was a passable reimagining of the first part of Men in Tights.
Reverse chronological:
Ong Bak - The Thai Warrior
Great action scenes. Normally martial arts film lose my interest quickly, but it was so kinetic and fast-paced that I was enthralled. Very good party movie.
Wild Zero
Another great party movie. Extremely silly and fun. It immediately went on the list with The Room as something that's hilarious to get drunk and make fun of, except with this one it's obviously intentional.
The Science of Sleep
The visuals were pretty fascinating, but the protagonist ended up being totally removing any chance of me sympathizing with him. His craziness ruined any of the romance for me. I went in hoping for an experience similar to Eternal Sunshine, but just ended up pretty disappointed. A lot of good ideas, but poorly executed.
Eternal Sunshine is a hard movie to beat. Joel and Clementine are such quirky and likeable characters you can't help but root for them.
Saw Robin Hood. Odd that the old Errol Flynn version was bursting with fun and energy and the more recent adaptations (like RH:PoT) are so gritty and downbeat. Well acted, although I'm not sure to what end. Feels like the entire movie is a set up for a sequel.
Ong Bak is definitely the best modern day martial arts film I've ever seen. Tom Yum Goong/The Protector is very similar in terms of the style of the fighting scenes, but much better as party movie. When watching it with a group of a dozen guys, every 5 minutes we felt compelled to scream "Where's my elephant!?" at the TV. =\
Ong Bak 2 isn't as good though. :(
I tried to give Science of Sleep a try because I loved Eternal Sunshine, but I never really gave it a proper go and I got distracted a few minutes in. Gotta try again sometime.
An Education
6/10
It was okay. I love the opening with all the fancy credits. Carey Mulligan was very good and Peter Sarsgard (despite me not believing his British accent at all) had the character's persona down to a tee. It's really hard for me to get in to British cinema if it isn't horror or comedy, or comedy horror, but this managed to keep me interested. The twist (although not entirely unexpected) was also interesting. And for once a British film that doesn't look like it was shot with a cheap camera.
Oh, I like The Science of Sleep, but I still think Eternal is better. Maybe because it has Beck and Kate Winslet in it.
I just got back from the cinema, I saw Four Lions.
It's a brilliant film that's rare in the fact that it can make you feel several emotions all at one time. Hilariously funny, but really sad and shocking too. Highly recommended :)
Just got back from Iron Man 2 and unlike most of the people in this thread, I actually liked it.
I found the plot to be interesting and liked the fact there was multiple scenario's going on. I also don't mind the supposed lack of action (odd, I remember the first film having just as much as this film...) but this may be in part because I actually like Tony Stark as a character as opposed to Iron Man the super hero. So a film focusing more on Tony and issues with a Billionaire owning the strongest weapon on the globe was far more entertaining to watch unfold than Iron Man beating up a bunch of people.
I like how this film gave both Tony Stark and Iron Man there own personal villains to watch them deal with, it made the film flow better for me cause personally, I never felt Iron Man had too many great villains anyway. The heavy foreshadowing of the Avengers film was pretty fun as well. The soundtrack is also awesome.
Last two movies I watched were The Re-Animator, and Bride of the Re-Animator. Awesome films, the both of them.
The dialogue and character of Dr. Herbert is simply spectacular, and every moment he is on screen is a sight to behold.
Both leading characters in these movies play their parts perfectly. The biggest flaw in both films, however, is the lead female, and any scene they are the spotlight in. Neither one is interesting in the slightest bit.
A Little Princess
10/10
One of the best children's movies ever! I watched it and bawled as a kid. And then I watched it again last weekend and I'm 23 years old but I still cried. Like 2 different times. Plus, the visuals are just stunning. The way they used light, aahhh so gorgeous!
The City of Lost Children
8/10
Brilliant film! Very original script complete with clones, Santa Claus, a talking brain, ingenious children, and Ron Perlman. If you have seen the director's other film, Amelie, it's definitely very different from that. It's like a bizarre whirlwind of black comedy meeting fantasy. It's also one of the most visually stunning films I've seen.
I've seen some people compare this film to Pan's Labyrinth, and although both films feature the cute little girl protagonist who gets thrown into a fantasy world, the two films are not one and the same. Regardless, I recommend it despite the highly annoying clones. It's not my favorite foreign film, but definitely worth a watch.
Soloman Kane
Cool perspective on religion. Great action. Liked it a lot.
8/10
Prince of Persia
Holy smurf. It was awesome. Not even just for the references I picked up. I mean there was real merit in the film. Some of the shots at times were weird, but it was a seriously excellent film.
I also ended up loving Jake Gyllenhaal as the prince too. He grew into the character very well. The other characters were all very well done too, imo.
Death Race
I'm often guilty of loving films that most others would say are horrible. No exception here! There's not much substance to the story. The characters are one dimensional - embarassingly so at times.
But hey. Cars, guns and women. And the guy that played Liu Kang in the Mortal Kombat films.
3/5
Oh and Jiro, it's good to hear to the praise for Prince of Persia. I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it. I'll check it out.
Crazy Heart.
Why doesn't more country music sound like that?
Also Jeff Bridges is god.
Running Scared: Really good, smurfing weird though. A good 3/5
American Beauty: This movie was actually really good, I went in all biased and came out ecstatic. 5/5
I just watched The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. Totally cheesy, but I liked it, and the storyline with the little girl with leukaemia was heartbreaking and very well acted. :D
Just watched Disney's version of Hunchback of Notredame. I thought the music and animation was great but I really didnt like how Esmerelda ended up with the Handsome Captain and Quasi got shafted (though really I blame the gargoyle's for getting his hopes up). I think the only way to have a "happy" ending was to let Esmerelda die so there would be ambiguity to who she wouldve ended up with. The rest of the movie delt with rather adult themes so i dont see why they couldnt have killed Esmerelda. I dunno the disney ending just didnt seem very "Disney" to me.
Resident Evil CG
2/10
For starters, the CG was nothing spectacular. After seeing something like Final Fantasy: Spirits Within and Avatar this move's CG looks like child's play. The ending like most Resident Evil endings (SPOILER)concluded in a cliche massive explosion. It was great to see familiar characters like Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy, but I wasn't impressed by most of the voice acting. I'm pretty sure I heard Steve Blum too, and I don't see him as good in anything but as Spike Spiegel.
Some of the rest of the voice actors went a little overboard and it came off as a bit cheesy. The sound effects were top notch and the fire looked great. It seems the one thing they know how to do well is making stuff blow up, but there story telling continues to suck even after the (SPOILER)omg my brother is that terrorist twist. It was especially disturbing when Leon noted that (SPOILER)the terrorist turned monster wanted to mate with his own sister because they share dna... Yeah, I wouldn't recommend it. I actually prefer the mostly horrible live action movies with Milla Jovovich over this crap.
I watched Up in the air last night...
I thought George Clooney was brilliant in it, really gave a good performance. I spotted the twist a mile off but i think you were supposed to as its hinted at during the film. The girl playing the character Natalie was very good as well. Very enjoyable film.
8/10
Tron
Awesome movie.
But you all should know that already.
Yesterday I watched Prince of Persia. My brother said it reminded him of Disney's Aladdin. Not sure what the hell he smoked there, but I didn't think so. Sure it had building jumping, and sand people, but the two films are too different. One is live action, the other is animation. One is based of a video game, the other had a video game based on it. There's more to go, but I will say that I really enjoyed the movie and its element of changing events through time. :D

Chinatown
Brilliant. Jack Nicholson was fantastic. "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown." 9/10.
Mortal Kombat
Brilliant. Johnny Cage was fantastic. "Finish him." 6/10.
Both versions of Funny Games are amazing.
Iron Man 2. Just saw it for the 2nd time over the weekend, because my dad didn't get a chance to go with me the first time I saw it. I didn't think it was better than the first one, but it was still a good movie nonetheless. 7.5/10
I've been in a bit of a retro mood the last two days.
Casablanca - Having heard the quote "We'll always have Paris" made the ending very predictable fairly early in the movie. Bogart had some nice quick snappy dialogue that was fun, and I have to say it was the highlights of the movie for me. Still, the fact that they made this movie during the war is quite awesome. 6/10
Some Like it Hot - I decided to see this movie because I realized I had never seen a movie with Marilyn Monroe. Much to my surprise Jack Lemmon turned out to be most awesome part about this movie and I simply loved it. Jack Lemmon is a genius and I can't wait to see more movies of him. 8/10
Ilsa - Uh, this is a very weird movie! I'm impressed that this was made in the 70's. It's just so obscene. Not sure it's possible to even rate this movie xD It was entertaining in a sick way, I suppose.
Prince of Persia
While entertaining and all I noticed that its exactly like The Mummy or Pirates of the Caribbean. Its like Jerry Bruckheimer uses the same formula for each movie "high paced, lots of action, cocky male main character," and obviously a love interest who is forced to work with the said cocky male main character.
3/5.5
Little Miss Sunshine
Very entertaining movie I thought. Although I hesitate to believe that it's possible to drive your bus over a thousand miles without the use of a clutch. :p Oh and the little girl is extremely adorable.
I saw Prince of Persia and Shrek 4 with a group of friends. I thought PoP was ok, but I personally loved Shrek. The last movie I saw though was The Prestige featuring Christian Bale with another one of my friends. Freggin' blew my mind at the ending, we talked about the movie for an hour, and this was at 5:00 in the morning t'boot.
Moon.
Watch this film. It's fantastic.
Necronopticous and I watched Samurai Rebellion last night. It's so good.
Last night I watched Lilo and Stitch. I realized it has been years since I saw it and I needed to correct that. I never realized how depressing it is for most of the movie and all the details on how Lilo and Nani were thrown into a horrible situation that neither was able to handle. For all the crazy antics and hilarity that Stitch brings, it was surprisingly mature and it completely changes the way I look at the movie. Definitely recommend anyone who has never seen it or has not seen it recently to watch it.
9/10
The Book of Eli
7/10
Even though the coloring of the film was highly unrealistic, it looked great. Unlike in The Professional, Gary Oldman wasn't completely campy; which was refreshing. If you like dystopian films you will probably really appreciate the settings in this film, but I can't promise you'll appreciate the religious plot. If you don't believe in it's message then hardly anything will be believable in this film. None the less, it's still entertaining. Also the soundtrack was amazing. Atticus did a great job developing an original score for the film. This song = yum.
Unthinkable
7/10
The beginning was a bit odd and confusing. The viewers will know just as much as Carrie Anne Moss' character. At first it looks like it's just going to be a film about a American terrorist making who claims his bombs will detonate if his demands are not met. It ends up turning into a film about morality, righteous, and how it conflicts with the need of survival. Samuel L. Jackson is once again amazing at being evil like he was in Lakeview Terrace.
Alice in Wonderland
smurf you tim burton...It wasn't as bad as I thought, and some of the voice actors were rockin' choices, but ultimately, I have fallen asleep trying to watch it twice..just can't get into it
Maybe I should have seen it 3D.
The Man From Earth.
A group of people in a room. Talking. Pretty much the entire film is set in one room. Talking.
And it's smurfing fantastic. The idea itself is magnificent, even if the acting is nothing to write home about. It's not amazingly magnificent, but it would be ruined if it was. It's not supposed to be a film, as such. It's supposed to look like a group of people in a room, talking. And it does!
The Road
6/10
A friend of mine had recommended this to me, so I decided to give it a shot. This film must have received very little advertising because if it weren't for her, I wouldn't have heard about it. The dark setting really sets the tone for this dystopian film. Viggo is great in his role and it even appears that he pulled a Christian Bale and ended up losing an unhealthy amount of weight for the role. The boy who plays The Son was very annoying and whiny though.
Seriously Moonlight
I need to stop watching movies simply for the inclusion of one actor or actress. One of the most horrific experiences of my entire life.
Quin, The Man from Earth was fantastic.
Totally. I can't remember who it was on EoFF who mentioned it and made me fancy it. Was it you, Bunny? Was it?
I might have mentioned it before.
no country for old men
omg awesome
Letters To Juliet
Jeez this one is a stinker and a half! My eyes rolled so many times whilst watching this that they damn near span out my head. I'm all for the occassional romance film but this was bottom of the barrel trash.
But jeez Amanda seyfried has massive cans, thats all i'm taking away from this film. Seriously could have been writtern by can of corn, with help from a block of cheese.
2/10
The Shawshank Redemption
Ok, so I've been hearing people talk about this movie forever so I finally gave it a watch last night. Wtf? Seriously soooo boring. I fell asleep at one point. Bad acting too.
1/10
How to Lose Friends & Alienate People
3/10
It wasn't that funny despite Simon Pegg being in it.
This Is It
4/10
It's a good thing this was it because if I had seen anymore I would've vomited. Michael performed most of his classics, but it seemed really short. Since it was only a rehearsal he didn't give his all. It's a shame because it looked like it would have been a really great concert, but it made for a mediocre documentary-like movie.
I ALSO DID NOT CARE FOR THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION THEREFORE I MUST BE EITHER TROLLING OR INSANE
Alien - Every bit as good as I heard. 8/10
Good, Morning, Vietnam! - Seen it before years back, still holds up. 8/10
Team America: World Police - Like a mediocre, politically charged episode of South Park except even less funny and and 40 minutes too long. 5/10
Re-watched Up last night. Still great.
The Prestige was awesome.
Ponyo
Ponyo is a little brat. How many people did she end up killing? lol Cute movie though loved the HAMMMMM thing. Great Ghibli film
Return to Oz - Absolutely terrifying.
Yeah that movie is badass.
I finally watched Nick and Nora's Infinate Playlist. It was entirely meh and generic.
The A-Team.
Go watch this movie, fool! 5/5
Idiocracy
"Welcome to Costco. I love you."
Guy and hooker go 500 years into the future and everyone is dumb. Really, really dumb. I thought it was a fun movie.
Fantastic Mr. Fox
7/10
Was fantastic! The animation movement was a little odd at times, but the storyline was very cute. You can't go wrong with Roald Dahl! The only thing that really bugged me was some of the casting choices. Some were great and others were poor like Owen Wilson as the coach. Erm, what?
Homecoming
3/10
A really horribly executed mimic of a better film called Misery. Mischa "Mmm whatcha say" Barton is doing some really horrible Southern accent; which makes no sense because everyone else is not speaking in a Southern accent and the movie I think takes place in Pennsylvania. It's supposed to be scary, but it fails to even be shocking.
I was going to The Informant this week, but I haven't gotten around to it. From what I've seen in the trailers it looks like it has some pretty corny humor so I dunno.
Heavenly Creatures - Great.
Office space : 7.5 / 10
Though I gotta say, the boss is hilarious.
"Hey Peter, what's happenin ? "
"Hmmm yeeeaaah"
Legend - Quite possibly the nerdiest thing I have ever seen.
Robin Hood (the recent one)
Ignoring the iffy historical accuracy, the Hollywood antics of making things go really smoothly, the massive amounts of plotholes, the fact this movie tries to be a prequel, the fact that Cate Blanchette almost never looks hot but strangely older than she really is... It was a decent movie if for visuals alone.
Watch it if you want to heckle a movie or if you are under intoxication. :D
Watched 2 movies today.
1) The Room.
You really don't need me to say why this is a horrible movie, but it's so bad you have to see it at least once.
2) Beyond Re-Animator.
I didn't expect it to be so awesome. So awesome in fact I liked it more then the first movie. West was still just as awesome as in the other two movies. As long as you don't screw him up, it was at least going to be entertaining.
The new helper he gets, his name slips my mind, has a more personality then Kane from the originals, and while he is technically the replacement, is a very unique character by comparison, for many reasons. At the same time he mirrors a few of the faults, and the possible hypocrisies inherent in his actions, that the previous Kane had.
The villain in this one also outclassed the originals in many ways.
It keeps much of the cheesy comedy/horror movie laughs alive, all while presenting some genuinely creepy and disturbing elements.
I give this one an 8.5/10.
Ballad of a Soldier
*** out of ***** stars.
About World War 2 Russian Soldier sent home on leave, along the way he helps people. Good movie even if it was made in the 1950s... Watched it off: Netflix...
Creepshow 2
5/10
So, this year I saw Creepshow (the first one) for the first time in a very nice theater. I decided to give Creepshow 2 a shot even though it is an 80s horror filled with lots of really cheesy things. Half way into it my eyes lit up because I realized it was the movie I had been searching for for 10+ years! I told my dad when I was about six or so about a movie we had rented that I couldn't remember the name of. I described the movie as, "horror with a gunk that eats people and a statue Indian that kills people." And he was just like, "wut." Finally, after all this years I discovered what that movie was and I must say, it was underwhelming. xD I like the first Creepshow better because it had more stories and it was just better imo.
Appaloosa
4/10
Renee Zellwellger is in it. She rarely seems to open her eyes. It's quite strange. The movie was boring. I may not be the best judge of this film because if it isn't a western that's The Good, the Bad, the Ugly, No Country for Old Men, or 3:10 to Yuma then I probably won't like it. Westerns just aren't my thing especially when Renee Zellwegger is in it. Also needed more music. Was way too quiet. The only thing that was good was the casting of Viggo because he definitely looks like he belongs in that era. The costumes were also on point.
The Book of Eli
**** of ***** stars.
Denzel Washington did a good job acting in this movie. It's set in the post-apocalyptic future and the main lone character is traveling throughout the Wasteland with a book. That's pretty much all I can say I thought it was a good movie... plus I like post-apocalyptic stories. It's worth a watch....
Get Him to the Greek. Similar in tone to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, with some of the same characters. Not as laugh out funny, but amusing and at times quite sincere.
Remember Me
*** out of *****
It's was a okay movie with a twist at the end.....
The Blind Side
6/10
Finally got to see this after renting it for 1 dollar at a vending machine called redbox. I thought it was a decent and heartfelt film. It would have been a bit more interesting if they went in depth with his past a little more instead cutting to quick flashbacks sporadically and then cutting back. I don't think Sandra Bullock was bad in her role -- I just don't see what earned her the Best Actress Oscar over the other nominees.
I didn't see this movie because it looked boring in the trailers and Pierce has a weird New York accent, but I read up on it to see what the twist was. It's a messed up ending, but makes the film seem more interesting.
Smiley Face
Stoner movie with Anna Faris. Although everything is exaggerated to the extreme...:bou::bou::bou::bou:ty movie, even if you smoke.
Friday
I think I need to be black and have grown up in the hood to understand this movies humor.
The Bad Sleep Well - The first half is dull to due to the strange structure, but really picks up later on. Deeply depressing.
Was this the Creepshow with King's "The Raft" in it? I loved the short story, and the film version was pretty good too! I'm almost positive it was in Creepshow 2. Also, did Creepshow 2 have the story about that creature in the crate in the university? That one creeps me out!
Yes, it was the same one with "The Raft", "The Hitchhiker", and "The Statue".
The first Creepshow had the one about the creature in the crate. That one is by far the scariest imo although I think story wise, the one with the beach was the best.
The Crate was filmed on CMU campus, my old alma mater. Funny, I don't remember ever hearing about monsters in the basement when I went to school there. :D
I can hold my breath for a long looong time!
Eclipse. We learn that vampires sparkle because they're made of porcelain... or something.
Youth in Revolt: 3/10. Some of the dialogue was decent, but the movie was just boring. I didn't finish it because it was ridiculously stupid and Michael Cera disappoints me again. He cannot deliver lines in anything but a monotone voice.
Alice in Wonderland: 4/10. I fell asleep about an hour in. This would either be due to absolute boredom with the movie or the fact that I got only a couple hours of sleep last night. Either way, it was not that good and Depp should stop working with Burton.
Shrek the Final Chapter
It was good/cute movie :jess: Next movie i wanna check out is Toy Story 3
The Karate Kid the new one
Just awesome. Jaden Smith is the real surprise package here. I was pretty skeptical of what his performance would be like when I heard mum and dad were producing the film, but I think he really delivers here. For a martial arts film, he gives us a good, solid, believable acting performance. I was also impressed to see all the famous fight scenes reimagined not just recreated, especially when it comes to the final fight.
I've only ever watched the original Karate Kid once so I really only remember it for the iconic scenes that everyone knows, so I can't really say if this is better than the original. It is definitely able to stand on it's own though.
It's also pretty damn long.
4/5
Toy Story 3
Everything I wanted it to be and more. It was well worth the wait and I was struggling to hold back tears at the end.
5/5
Toy Story 3!
I smurfing loved this movie, so much. I'll admit, I was either on the verge of tears or actually crying throughout most of the movie. That once scene at the end totally got to me too. You guys know which scene.
An amazing movie, if anyone hasn't seen it, SEE IT!
The Last Airbender. The movie's not great by any stretch of the imagination but it's certainly no 6% as posted on Rotten Tomatoes.
Leaving Las Vegas
Story of a guy (Nicolas Cage) who loses both his family and job, and decides to move to Las Vegas to slowly drink himself to death. When he gets there he meets a prostitute (Elisabeth Shue) and they develop a relationship together based on the rule that she won't tell him to stop drinking and he won't tell her to stop whoring. Obviously there's a lot more to it than that but in the off chance that someone reads this and decides to watch the movie, then I don't want to spoil it. This was a really excellent and well acted movie - Cage and Shue were brilliant in their roles and I'm probably going to get the DVD at some point in the near future. Can't believe I'd overlooked it for so long.
Taking Woodstock
5/10
Slow moving like pretty much all of Ang Lee's movies. It had some funny parts, but I would've loved to see some of the actual concert. The large ensemble cast was great. I especially liked Liev Schreiber's character.
Finally saw The Princess and the Frog.
It looked pretty, and it was cute... but I expected more from it. I was kind of disappointed. 7/10.
Grown Ups
It was pretty funny movie. And it had a few feel good moments too. But mostly it was funny. 8/10
Avatar: The Last Airbender. I've never followed the animation, but I was intrigued by the premise. So I can't judge how faithful it was to the original.
First of all the visuals are gorgeous. Like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it makes effective use of location shooting to make a unique looking world. The cities and architecture have a stylized but nice look.
The characters are by and large interesting. Aang was an interesting mix as a powerful warrior who is emotionally vunerable. I thought Katara and Sokka were plausible siblings. Zuko has some interesting character shifts, although my favorite is (SPOILER)when he infiltrates a Fire Nation fortress to kidnap Aang. I love Iroh: he's the coolest honorable villain since Rubicant.
My main problem was the plot seemed rushed, like the makers tried to cram three hours of plot into two. A lot of scenes have abrupt endings. The worst moment was when Katara's narration mentions that Sokka and Princess Yue became great friends, as they're being introduced to each other. Show don't tell, people!
So, it was a good movie, but I'm hoping there's a director's cut that lengthens the character interactions.
I watched Avatar: The Last Airbender yesterday. Having watched all of the anime episodes, i loooooved it. I hate how people nitpicked tiny "character flaws" that were actual mannerisms of the anime characters. I thought it was fantastic and i cant wait for the next two.
I can't compare the two, but I want to watch the cartoon now.
It took a while for me to figure out what the Fire Nation reminded me of and it eventually hit me: Iron Town in Princess Mononoke. It uses iron forged technology in a battle against forest spirits with a similar disdain for nature.
Wild Target
7/10
I thought it was funny and interesting, I would go and see it.
Haha, right after Danielle posts about it. :D
Wild Target - 4/5. Some properly funny moments, certainly enough to keep the audience laughing at the right times. I liked the characters well enough. Wouldn't have minded if it went on about 30 minutes longer, but it was still worth the ticket price.
Time of the Wolf - Just another masterpiece.
Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom - As you well know, killing the same man many times is not enough. It's advisable, instead, to kill as many living beings as possible.
Reverse order...
Transformers (2007): Someone needs to tell these people that long does not mean good. Especially when a full smurfing hour and forty-five minutes are dedicated to bull:bou::bou::bou::bou: being done by stupid human characters in a film that is supposed to be about giant robots fighting. It wouldn't have been so bad if any of the human characters were engaging or anything other than a total parody of the types of people they were attempting to portray. Most of the humor was awkwardly placed (thought the scene of the autobots hiding from Sam's parents was well done) and broke tension during scenes that should have been really heavy to watch. It wasn't awful, but it cockteased for way too long before anything happened for it to be considered a great summer blockbuster.
Star Trek (2009): On the other hand, this was a summer blockbuster remake done totally right. Great characters, great story, great humor, great pacing. I'm not a fan of TOS in the slightest but the movie had me hooked from start to finish. I don't know what the running time was, but it felt like it was over in a flash because of how much it sucked me into the universe - where with Transformers, I was constantly checking the clock, marveling at how long I'd been watching it without a goddamn thing happening. Superbly done, and I'm excited to see what the next one is like. It's just strange to me how both Transformers and Star Trek were actually written by the same team, considering how much better this one deals with the source material.
In between the two, I saw The Last Airbender, which doesn't even warrant a review. I'm hoping the whole experience will be purged from my mind soon enough. As my friend's wife said to me in the theater, it was an abortion.
Vampires Suck
10/10
Oscar worthy! Okay, in all seriousness, the writers of Epic Movie, Date Movie, Superhero Movie, Scary Movie, and whatever other crappy movies with "movie" in the title need to stop. Parodies can be great. I love a good parody and they did well with the costumes and sets. However, the casting was way off at times. The girl they got to play Bella was great because she did the stutters, blinking, and half open mouth thing perfectly. She sounded just like Kristen Stewart! "EDUWARRD" But, most of the jokes were extremely lame and Ken Jeong couldn't save this trainwreck. Although I will give it a higher rating than I'd give the others for the sheer fact that someone is finally making fun of all of these franchises: Twilight, Vampire Diaries, True Blood, and Gossip Girls in one shot. They even took a short jab at Alice in Wonderland (the crap Tim Burton one).
Real rating: 5/10
tuckakasdkqw
Despicable Me
"It's so fluffy!" It really is. It's also really, really funny. The minions are awesome. It makes you feel all warm and fuzzy at the end too.
Toy Story 3:
9.5/10. I love Spanish Buzz ;P Hay un amigo en mi.
But, it felt like every other Toy Story. Of course there was a new plot, but it was just like watching any other Toy Story. I don't like that feeling. :(
Unthinkable
10/10
This movie is FANTASTIC. All the characters in this movie play their roles perfectly. Totally had me wondering what was going to happen next, and how far the "torturer" was willing to go to save civilians from a bomb threat. So many plot twists, definitely one of the greatest movies I've ever seen.
Public Enemies
2/10
Okay, so I have seen bits and pieces of this before, but I finally decided to watch it all the way through and I must say what the hell. Iit is the worst lighting and cinematography I have seen in a long time. I have seen student films. I immediately noticed how off the lighting looked and I don't even think the poor attempts at colorizing it helped. Green or yellow hues for a lot of the scenes...why? The camera work was more of a documentary style.
The hand-held thing only works for something like District 9, not a crime drama. The sound was also quite poor at times. I won't get too technical with that, but they needed to up the levels when the actors were talking to more of an equal level of the sound effects or at least closer to it. I think the only reason people will say this was a good film is because Bale and Depp are in it otherwise it was crap. The acting and prop design was not amateur, but unfortunately it was overshadowed by the horrible cinematography, lighting, and editing.
Rampage
4/10
For once Uwe Boll has made a movie that doesn't entirely suck...it just sort of sucked. The acting was of course sub par as usual with his films, but I didn't mind the main character's acting at all. I actually thought the explosion special effects were well done, but I felt there could have been a bit more character building up to the insanity of the character. It didn't really seem like he had much of a motive for what he did. The cinematography is also crap here, but I mean hey, the hand-held style worked a bit better here and showing the chaos.
