But, that's just my opinion though. If they added only Dark Samus or only Paper Mario without any extra versions of the other characters I'd also find it wrong. I also technically consider Paper Mario and Dark Samus to be the same as Samus and Mario. So I'm not just bashing on Zelda like you think I am.
And as I said before I'm somewhat against the idea of really redundant things being added because it leaves less room for more unique and classic things to be put in Brawl.

As for Lucario, he may just be my next main, because Mewtwo was my old one (unless i needed some body who was fast -_-) and he not only has similar moves, but is faster, fixing pretty much the only problem i had with him :) in saying that, there are so many other awesome people...

It's good to see Wolf isn't a clone. I've not seen Falco fight yet, though. From what I can see, Toon Link is the only "clone" of the game, but I bet Falco might change that when I see him.

Maybe it's just me, but I had really high expectations for the final roster. A 35 character roster with clones leaves me wantin' more, especially with the likes of Ridley, Geno, K. Rool, etc. not being playable.
I'm liking it all right. Besides, the only clone I can see from the videos posted in this thread is Toon Link. Wolf's video is a bit blurry, but the only moves that really stand out are entirely different from Fox.

Its perfectly fine to be a little bummed by the final roster.You are paying for the game after all and personally im not a big fan of the final roster at all.
Infact i think thats the most dissapointing aspect of the game.

Sub space looks fantastic, ALL the arenas are superb, items look fun, pokemon seem more diverse, AT rock, musics phenominal, stage edit looks neat and even target test and home run seem fun.
But im one of those pepole that play fighting games for oh i dont know...the CHARACTERS! Dont get me wrong theres not a single character that i mind thats on the roster (yes including R.O.B.) but i felt there are certain characters that deserved priority over others.
Ok first lets look at the number....35. Now thats not SO bad (it could be sooo much worst) but lets take a look at the leaps smash has made over the years in terms of characters. Super smash bros. had 12 characters. It was released january 21 1999. Melee came out in 2001...thats a 2 yr difference and we boosted to 25 characters(26 if you count shiek)! Wow thats more then double the origonal roster! Now comes brawl early 2008. Seven freakin years later and we get 10 more characters. But thats NOT the part that upsets me. Now for the venting...
Sakuri promised no more clones. Suure most characters are luigified at the moment but what the heck?! Ness and falcos FS's are the same as lucas and fox?! Wolf and falco move like fox? Cartoon link plays like regular link? Ganon has no sword?! Now i admire these characters and im glad there in the game and all and suure there a tad bit different but heres the issue...make the ORIGINALs FIRST theen worry about clones or luigified characters. Sures it nice to see ness back but put him next to lucas and there almost identical. But claus (lucas's twin brother...hehe ironry eh?) could have had twice as much potential because he could have represented (SPOILER)a villain for the mother series but noo we just get a kid who uses a snake and a kid with a yo-yo who just so happen to both be protaganists. Umm wheres krystal!? Sakuri said he wanted more females so where the heck is the most wanted female rep for the star fox series? Why on earth would he put three very similar male characters to rep a series but not the only logical female rep? (who could EASILY have her own original move set...staff,magic user for the star fox team whos ALSO a female...kill two birds with one stone easy) And thats wonderful that marth made it back but hes just a fast ike...why not bring a spear user or a FEMALE or SOMTHING unique! Theres more the fire emblem series then blue haired sword wielding good guys for crying out loud. But what probably peeves me the most is lucario. Replacing mewtwo with that cool looking dude...boo! I think lucarios awsome but why does Mewtwo get the shaft and ness and marth dont? At least if you put him next to lucario you wont get confused between the two if you looked at the sword and some goofy hat *glares at ness and marth*. I mean come on Mewtwos THE badguy pokemon. He has his own voice, hes psychic (makes for a creative move set) and back story (sort of but then again so does lucario so thats a weak argument there) And all these characters had an awsome chance of making it if the developers didnt use all there time on stuff like stickers, AT's, subspace and all the garbage. As i said before good characters come first in a fighting game.
Which is why i refuse to believe 35 is the final roster. I still have hope and believe in nintendo to pull through on this one. Pleease nintendo...dont ruin everything!! :cry: :eek: :( :mad:

Yeah, seriously. It might not be big for, say, an encyclopedia of Nintendo, but that's what trophies are for. This is a fighting game we're talking about here. Besides, how much could they really change the characters from Game 2 to Game 3 without slapping people who played Game 2 in the face about their mains?
Thus far, Falco is the most disappointing character. I understand and don't mind clone characters, but I'm sorry, they should have given him a different Final Smash. Even if the movesets and playstyles are similar, the Final Smash moves shouldn't ever repeat. I hope Toon Link doesn't have that problem.
PS: What's R.O.B.'s Final Smash? Anyone seen it yet?

I remember being in 8th grade when Melee came out, and reading all the :skull::skull::skull::skull: about it and discovering the "rumored" unlockable characters, and I was so bummed. Marth, Roy? Who were those guys?
Well, six years later, and I still play that game. Needless to say, it's not such a big deal. People who moan about how some clone got in instead of whatever character they wanted should keep in mind that the amount of resources and time it would take to create a new character would likely prevent that character from getting in altogether. So what would you rather have--Falco, Wolf, Gannondorf, and Toon Link, or 31 characters?
Yeah, but you've got to consider that they went into Brawl with WAY more people than they did for Melee, they got double the time to work on Brawl than Melee, and really, considering there were many people expecting rosters from 40-42, I don't think it would be wrong to think that they should've at least made a roster of 35 with clones.
Then again, they also introduced a whole lot of other features which is probably why the roster has a couple of clones. Personally, I would've preferred less stickers, assist trophies, and game modes, and a couple more character, or at least some clones removed.
But overall this roster is pretty good. I'm sure when I pick up the game I'll forget about all of my complains. :p
I just think it's kind of funny that Wolf, Falco, and Fox all share the same Final Smash.

What about game 1 to game 2? They didnt care then certainly (kirby went from top tier to garbage tier along with ness and yoshi) and what about roy, doc, and pichu mains? Its a different game after all so pepole should accept that in that regard.

Kirby is hardly "garbage tier". He may not be as godly as he was in the original, but he is still one of the best characters in the game.
Doc should never have been added. Mario already had a clone anyway, anyone who wants another is being way too picky.
Pichu was probably the single worst character in the game, and one of the least played. Combining the game's lightest character with attacks that also caused him to hurt himself was one of the strangest design choices in the game. I'm not at all surprised to see the suicidal little critter gone. Cuteness is not a substitute for a survival instinct.
As for Roy, well, I liked him, but I can see the trouble of keeping him in the game. There were constant complaints about him being essentially a weaker (overall) version of Marth. Since they had a new Fire Emblem hero to add in, and one who had a signature move that they could incorporate into his Final Smash and Up-B, I can understand the choice of Ike over Roy.
Are people going to be upset? Yes (although anyone upset about Doc leaving deserves to be upset, IMO). Will I miss some of the characters who are gone? Certainly. Do I think that some of them should have been put in instead of some of the newer characters? Yes. Does that mean that I should whine and complain and try to ruin the fun for the people who have been begging for these characters to join up for years? Heck, no.
Doc was likely removed because his stats barely changed from the originator. Roy was included for advertisement, mostly, and they probably didn't feel obliged to put him in. And Pichu was a pile of dung. :greenie: As for Kirby being so nerfed, I've no idea.
But justifying earlier slaps in the face is not needed. Avoiding slaps is good, no matter how many slaps you've done in the past. Why, if I went to go slap my cat, and then thought about it a month later and then didn't, I think my cat would appreciate the fact that I didn't if she were aware, even though I slapped her before. :mog: But then I poked her. She was kinda disgruntled, but she just meowed and walked away. I think that's because she used Roy.
Kirbys one of the worst characters in the game. Predictable recovery, terrible range, awful prioity, grabs that you can BREAK out if mid animation, weak projectile, and is killed easily...hes not even close to good in melee.

Root all you want. I have absolutely no trouble with people rooting for their own characters. There's plenty of characters I'm still rooting for even though the chances of more characters being in the game is so slim as to be non-existent. Rooting for more than what is there right now is why this game has reached the incredibly high mark that it is at already. And it's fine to miss things that aren't in the game, I just don't think anyone should complain about things being added.
Some of Kirby's throws can be broken, but they are all fairly powerful. He's also got decent Smash power, good recovery (sorry, most recoverys are "predictable", as you put it, and Kirby's has good range and some ways to keep people guessing), fast normal attacks, and one hell of a versatile move selection. Yeah, the star projectile may suck, but when you eat Samus, Mewtwo, Fox, Falco, Link, Young Link, etcetera, you get access to some of the game's higher power and more fun projectiles. He's extremely well rounded, and, while he may not be perfect he is still one very useful little puffball.
Anyway, I'm liking the way the site's going now. I'm going to do my best to stop watching these insanely fun spoiler vids and pics, and just keep track of the main site. I probably won't succeed, but I'll make the effort.
Wow this is piling on nicely. Two of kirbys throws can be broken. His up throw and down throw are the only guranteed throws. Throws arent useful because of their "power" there used to set up for combos or chain grabs. Kirbys down throw can easily be punished by floatier characters (like luigi...grr) with a neutral air. Kirbys up throw sets up for up air combos but thats it and that can EASILY be DI'ed out of. When i say predictable i mean "easy" to edgeguard. Kirby lags after each jump so its not hard to predict where hes gonna go and what hes gonna do (If he goes for a swallowcide you simply wait because hes gonna lose vertical plus he doesnt go far with each jump). With marth and roys recovery they can at least delay theres at set intervals with their over b's. Dk at least has knock back on his and good horizontal recovery. Mario and doc can fire ball and pill spam to intimidate edge guarders. Even pichu can hug ledges with his up b. His "fast" attacks as i said before have NO priority and power so there meaningless unless for juggles. Watch competitive kirbys, they abuse no b attacks. Why? Because if they miss the swallow they can be punished and even if they do get the move they lose after about 2-3 hits anyways. Versitle? This i wont argue...but none of his moves are all that useful. His hammer blows (to laggy) and his down b is predictable if used offensivly and can easily be punished with a grab. But he is a fun little dude (mewtwo kirby is the bomb...to bad we'll never see him again ((or will we? muhahaha)) :( )

We will have Lucario Kirby instead of Mewtwo Kirby, since Lucario seems to have inherited Mewtwo's Shadow Ball. Sure, it's technically a different move, but it has the same gameplay, from what I've seen. So we won't lose much.
I agree that Kirby's forward and backward throws are largely useless (unless you are really good with your timing, in which case any of his throws are very dangerous), but his up and down throws have plenty of uses.
Kirby's recoveries are only easy to edgeguard if you have an unimaginative Kirby player. His aerial attacks and up and down B moves make him a lot harder to edgeguard. Anyway, you're entitled to your opinion, but I still feel that Kirby is one of the best characters in the game. That's all I'll say about him, since we're supposed to be talking about Brawl, not arguing about Kirby's awesomeness.
Anyway, the only thing I've seen about this game that I haven't liked is the repetition of Final Smashes. Everything else, the more I see, the happier I get. This game has a huge lineup of characters, stages, items, and game modes. Sure, there are some things that had to be trimmed down. We don't get Target Tests built for each character anymore, we don't get all of the characters from the last game, we don't get all the old stages. But it is so worth it.

Kirby is awesome and you all just BE QUIET! :cry: :p I stand by the fact that people may not like him because they're not particularly good with him...which is what i believe with all characters, at the end of the day, it's how well you can use them, and if they're your favourite 'personality' character, then they're bound to become your favourite (and best) fighting character. Not many people liked Mewtwo because he was hard to use, but he was my main and i loved him...so yeah, it just depends.
It IS nice to see somebody who knows what they're talking about, but please, don't insult Kirby more by putting him down WITH bad spelling :mad: :p I know, that's harsh, but honestly, if you're trying to say 'you are' it's "you're", and if you're trying to give ownership, it's "your"...this has got to be the thing that annoys me most with misspellings :p (along with 'their', 'there', and 'they're') and im sorry to bring that up, i know that's not what this thread is about

My only dissapointment is NEss's Final Smash.
Rather then Starstorm, PK Rockin' so should have been his final smash.
I'd suggest that when doing so, Ness fires off several waves of Psycic bursts around him in a large area, causing high damage to all who enter.
Either that, or do massive damage to all in a smaller area, and doesn't have much knock back power.
One of those two would be better then Starstorm I think.

Im skeptical about DKs Final smash. In some videos it appears to be the worst but ive seen some where its range looks amazing. The site mentioned somthing about pressing buttons with the beat to add to its effectivness but im curious to see how that works exactly.
I hope theres different songs somtimes to change it up. Could be fun :p

Captain Falcons Port City racetrack is a stage woot!
I'm wondering why they've cofirmed so much Captain Falcon stuff, his levels, assist trophies, etc... But they haven't officially confirmed him yet.
Its gotta be his nipples :greenie: Sakuri doesnt think the world can handle so much manlyness just yet.
Something to note is that Peach has a different pair of underwear on in this game.
I don't really like how Port Town has replaced Mute City. They're both really cool stages that I'd want in even though having them both would be redundant. I guess as long as they have the SSBM Mute City music available I'll be happy enough.
Anyways, I find it really awesome how ROB (SPOILER)is really the Ancient Minister and he joins the good guys and goes against the Subspace Army once Ganondorf takes over command of it. It makes me like ROB as a character even more. This probably means that the real main bad guy is Ganondorf and those trophy transforming villains like Wario and Dedede.

So if my theory is correct Captain Falcon will be the 5th one to be updated.
I also like Big Blue since the cars are no longer hazards but platforms which is a big change from Mute City. The scenery going upside down is also fun. Especially when you distract others telling them the sky is upside down messing them up. :D

Major (SPOILER)I really don't like how they made Sonic appear at the last second without him enduring a lot of harsh trials like the other characters did. It's quite a biased thing for Nintendo to be doing especially with a character they don't own. They almost make it seem like all the other characters and what they did don't matter since Sonic just takes care of the Final Boss himself and frees practically everyone else from being in their trophy form. He doesn't deserve to be the hero, not after doing anything until the final boss while almost everyone was helping out fight against the Subspace Army. This is exactly why I didn't want Sonic in Brawl.

(SPOILER)Don't you think that it should've been a Nintendo character/characters defeating the Final Boss and not just Sonic defeating him solo? I mean, sure it's one thing to add third party characters, but to give them a role that makes everyone elses role worthless?! Nintendo's practically killed Brawl. I mean why couldn't they at least have had you able to choose which character to defeat the final boss with? Even if a lot of people would choose only Snake and Sonic to defeat the final boss with, it's better than being able to choose no one but Sonic to defeat the final boss with. It's really awkward for Nintendo to show that much disregard to their own characters.
The moment I start to care about the climax of the story in a game that could easily be one of SuperMillionaire's stupid-ass mass crossover fanfics is the day I swallow a length of barbed wire, pull the other end out of my ass, and floss myself to death.
You choose who you want to fight and defeat the final boss. It seems that That Character only shows up at the final boss, but he does not in fact defeat him unless you choose to play as him.
(SPOILER)In fact, you choose 5 characters to play as, and each character has 1 life/stock. When one gets KO'd, the next comes in.

Pretty dern cool. I like the little character-specific interactions like that in fighting games.
Pretty cool that they do that. Really shows how much detail they're putting in there. The Star Fox characters have a lot of character to them, too, it seems.
Edit: In the third of the money matches between Gimpyfish and Lucky, Knuckles made an appearance. Competitive footage and Knuckles cameo here. The cameo is at about 2:15.

I know it's just a game but it's still quite upsetting. I mean, would you want the storyline of Soul Calibur 4 to force you to use Darth Vader or Yoda for the final battle? It's weird enough for them to be in the game but forcing them into the most important role is wrong because the characters that are supposed to be in those games shouldn't be that disregarded compared to 3rd party characters. But as I said before it's just a game and everyone might not find it that disappointing but you do have to admit that it's quite strange for Nintendo to be doing that right?

(SPOILER)It's a huge relief knowing that you can choose which characters you want to use for the final battle instead of having them chosen for you. Even though it didn't show all 5 characters being used I'm glad it's official that you are at least able to choose who to use for the final battle.
Also, the First Songs in My Music in the DOJO now have the Port Town Aero Drive and The Final Destination (which I think should've remained unlockable and not have you start with it) Music listed.
I hope wolf uses one of his amazing lines

This shows the entire fight though, and I'd reccomend not watching all of it. There are some pretty surprising things in there. Not like this is a 'spoiler safe' thread anyway, but some of the stuff that Taboo does has a kind of 'lol rape' effect to it.
Lots of nice new Assist Trophies up on Dojo. After two level updates in a row, getting a good, solid update is nice.

He cant recover with his down b?! Ouch :( Screw his F-tilt...the slower the better (more intimdating edge guard muhahaha) his jab is his fastest move which is kind of a shame. Can captain falcon still recover with his down b? Maybe we'll find another way to recover with the guys?

I'm glad they finally updated my best (and most favourite) character. And judging by what they said his Counter seems to be powered up without any drawbacks at all. I'm really looking forward to using him in Brawl. :D

People had already figured out the 'hold shield to pick Zero Samus (Zamus)' thing, but I hadn't seen the 'rapid taunt to shed Samus' armour'.
I'm glad the dojo has finally explained a lot of mysteries surrounding Zero Suit Samus. Especially being able to switch back and forth with her suit.
The Enemies and Allies update is talking about Lucario when they say "there is one character who has a rather unusual method by which they can distinguish friend from foe..." who I don't think will be the next character updated. It would be awesome if he was, don't get me wrong there. But I'm still strongly thinking that they're updating characters in order from the least to most amount of Vs. Matches needed to unlock them (and so far Ness and Marth totally fit for that).
Wavedashing is gone, it seems. It's been replaced with a minijump designed to dispel your momentum rather than manipulating for a faster move speed. I guess people will have to find some other way to manipulate the physics of the game.
Moves now have diminishing returns, in an attempt to stop people from just spamming one move over and over (not that it's stopped that, from what I've seen of some of the videos).
A pivot grab has been added. Run one way, switch direction, and grab on to your opponent. It increases most people's grab range, though I wonder what it will do to people with grapple grabs.
The principles of the laser show up in Brawl. The more a beam bounces back and forth between reflectors, the more powerful it gets, until it is strong enough to break through one of the reflectors.
There's a couple more small changes up. It's nice to see the level of detail they're putting into this.
I was really impressed by this update. It seems sakuri really is aiming to make this game a whole new experience.
The new "tech" seems neat (Whats with the name? 0_o) and eating on the ground is a dream come true :p I also read somewhere your characters can randomly trip.
I want to master this "trip"...I shall call it "Trip dashing". You all wait and see...wait and see ill mess with the pysics of this game yet!
When it comes out of course ;)
What's wrong with calling it Ukemi? I'm pretty sure it's a common name for this kind of thing. In SC3, they called it the same thing in the tutorial. Even so, since it's just on the site, I'm thinking more people will still call it "teching".

Hah hah. I can imagine Samus and Zelda wanting one of those really badly and Link and Ganondorf getting really jealous of Captain Falcon. Maybe Peach as well. (People give weird looks) Well it is kind of obvious that Ganondorf does have feelings for Zelda. Also, here's Captain Falcon's New Theme Song.
Anyways, today's update was nice. It's good to know that you can use the Ukemi on walls and ceilings, the glancing blows not making enemies flinch like they did in the previous games, (hope this won't affect Marth badly since that's his main strength though) and pivot grabs being able to increase your grab range by a lot (it may take quite a lot of practice to master though).
I was kind of hoping that crawling and wall clinging would be explained though. I guess that update will be for another day.
If I recall correctly, if you walked off the left side of the screen in Mario Brothers (or at least the version of it in SMB3), you would come out on the right side. This is going to mess with me in Smash.
I wonder, do the enemies go to the opposite side of the screen when they go into the right or left side?
I'm wondering if the POW blocks are going to be used.
I'm pretty sure they are. There was a Youtube Video I saw of the stage, and one of the players very commonly used it.

It's nice to see some more classic style levels. I like how they even kept the Mario Bros. like gameplay complete with the bouncy floor and the flipping over of enemies. :D

It's nice to see Luigi finally getting his chance to shine on the dojo. It's also really good to know that he's keeping his Luigi Cyclone. (I preferred Mario's Cyclone attacks more than F.L.U.D.D.) I especially like his new taunt (where he switches poses crazy fast). And although they didn't explain where his Negative Zone Final Smash came from I'm glad they explained how it works. :D
I guess that means Falco is next. And then Captain Falcon. (which'll make a lot of you happy)

I've heard that some people have put the disc's data onto their PC's and read some of the Data. Allegedly, in the section where all the characters were, file-names that implied the following characters were found:

Along with file names implying alternative victory music for every character in the game, including those 7.
However, the most accepted guess is that those pieces of data are empty, and are just place-holders on the disc. Would be cool if there was downloadable content, but I doubt it'll happen. :choc2: Plus I've seen no proof that the data was even extracted.

Something I find interesting is that every clone character, like Gkoopa (Giga Bowser), the Zakos (Fighting Alloys), Pra_mai (Plusle and Minum? Pichu, maybe?) have a size of 128. I'm assuming he copied and pasted the entire list from a folder rather than make the whole list himself, so perhaps that's why the exact amount isn't shown.
Anyway, the lack of file size in so many characters is probably because they either don't have a move-set for them, or they borrow the move-set of another character. For example, we already know Giga Bowser does NOT have a move-set for himself. He's just Bowser, but with stat alterations. But then we have Mewtwo on that list, who is also at 128.
Something that would be nice would be the ability to see more than file names. Or a new AR. :tongue:

Actually i heard somwhere that luigis trophy explains his FS. It sames somthing along the lines of the negative zone adhering to luigi being over shadowed all the time. This creates this negative energy and is built up to use on his foes.

I'm guessing that, since playing through the Subspace Emissary seems to require you to use every character, and that you can't run through it with just one character, that the trophy awards will be implemented a little differently (you had gotten an extra trophy for any character you completed Adventure Mode with).

Tomorrow is Sakurai's presentation at the Game Developers Conference. As the title indicates, GDC is for the game developers. Sakurai will likely be talking more about creating the game than the content of the game itself.

But yeah, like I mentioned, the conference is for game developers--people who make games. I suppose the average consumer doesn't care about how the game was made and just wants to play it. But people who make games, who might be interested in making a game like smash, or even people who like to know about behind-the-scenes stuff would find some value in what Sakurai has to say.
