Ahahahahaha, Shaolin Soccer is madness.
Rewatched Hot Fuzz last night, still a solid 4/5. It's a good rewatch for me as there were some jokes I missed or didn't get a few years back that I do now.

I watched Bully last night, and Breine was totally right, that was some depressing trout.
I [img]http://home.eyesonff.com/images/smilies/heart.gif[/img] Megamind.
I don't often watch movies, but I watched about half of "Jack Reacher" while on break at work and what I saw was great.
Now I'm dying to finish the whole movie xD
Ooh, I downloaded that just the other day. I'm looking forward to watching it. =]
A Better Life (2011)
It's about undocumented workers in the U.S., specifically, illegal immigrant workers from Mexico. It's sobering, sweet, and makes me appreciate my parents and my life comforts more. It gives a good picture of what a day in the life is like for undocumented workers. I was recommended this film by a friend who said he could really relate to the film at times... if anyone questioned the legitimacy of the film (I don't think anyone would, but just in case, I guess).
Also, it's about 1/3 in Spanish and 2/3 in English with some Spanglish thrown in, so make sure you have those subs turned on if you don't know Spanish.
Spirited Away 2/5
I don't understand why everyone likes this movie.
The acting was terrible. Haku was leaden in his portrayal of a river god. Lin was deadweight throughout the film. And ugh, Yubaba playing herself and her twin. Haven't we seen enough of that? That trout hasn't worked since Parent Trap. Might as well have had Eddie Murphy in the movie, sheesh.
The special effects were simply the worst I've ever seen. Crappy giant baby CGI? Check. Midget in a frog costume? Check. And what's this No-Face bulltrout? Put a black sheet on a guy and give him an ugly mask and you've got a meaningful character? Kamajii's stilt arms were also just stupid and pointless.
The locations were a joke as well. The train scenes were clearly filmed in a bathtub.
The movie's also blatantly racist, and it openly insights violence against parental figures. I was surprised that Chihiro's parents never got turned into bacon and eaten by Chi and her cannibalistic friends. Soot sprites? I mean everyone knows that the Japanese don't like black people, but COME ON!
And what a troutty ending! I mean, what, was it all just a dream? She had her little adventure and now she's back to the real world and nothing ever really happened? BULLtrout! I want my money back!
husband WHAT
I just watched Mr. Nobody for the first time, and I have to say that I loved it. I already want to watch it again just to try to catch some of the things I missed the first time and just because it was an enjoyable movie, albeit pretty depressing.
Great Gatsby;
10/10
My suggestion to those of you who have not seen this is to get the smurf up, find ten bucks and go see this. One of the best movies I've seen in a long time. The story was enthralling, the imagery was eloquent and the way everything was presented just clicked with me on an emotional level (a hard thing to do!). Go see it, now.
Also; I'm sad that I didn't read the book beforehand so I'm going to read it and go see it again.
I think I missed the first twenty minutes or so, but we watched Prometheus on the weekend and it was distinctly average but not rubbish. 3/5.
But... Tom Cruise!
Man, you need to stop being wrong someday. :(
He's right, actually, but Jack Reacher is a p. good series of books. I haven't seen the film yet or read the particular book it's based on though, but if they did a competent job adapting it then it should be entertaining enough to make it worth watching.
Iron Man 3
That was smurfing awesome! From the moment they landed at the rig til the end it was great! Tony kept his character development from the past movies too. 5/5
I wouldn't call it a 5/5, but it was damn good. Probably a 4/5, and definitely no lower than 3.5.
I swear, if people start arguing about individual ratings in this thread I'm going to head-desk until I don't feel anything anymore.
"Definitely no lower"? So you speak for everyone else, huh? So if I think it's a 2/5, my opinion isn't valid?
IM3 is a 3.25, and barely that.
(SPOILER)I don't actually have an opinion on IM3, I haven't even seen it yet. I just want to see HNB beat the trout out of his desk. Or his head. Or both. Whatever.
Magic Mike
Really good talent in this movie. Although I didn't get the plot the first time, so I will have to watch it again more closely.
10/10
Too busy eyeballing Channing Tatum's Adonis-like physique?
I saw Star Trek Into Darkness 3D the other day. Benedict Cumberbatch makes a fantastic antagonist, 3D wasn't too over the top, and most importantly paid homage to this! 8/10 would rent and watch again.
The Drawn Together Movie: The Movie 4/10
I admit, I really like the first season of the Series. It's not clever, but it's not trying to be. And I was fine with that. It got old season 2 and 3, but I figured I may as well watch the movie, having Netflix now and what not. And god, it was unfunny. I found a couple jokes funny, though I gave it a higher score then I should of cause I think it had a pretty good message. Not everything needs to have a point, and sometimes it can be alright to do things just for the sake of doing it.
Cloud Atlas; 9/10
Really enjoyed this movie, it moved me so much a single manly tear may or may not have slipped past my guard.
Go watch it.
I (finally) watched Withnail & I. It was brilliant. Great dialog and very funny. Watch it!
I also watched Videodrome. I don't want much horror or the like, but I quite enjoyed it. It was great 80's-style gore and watchable in a kinda cheesy way.
Such a great movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PObknmaH9po
And any scene with Monty making awkward advances is hilarious.
Oh yeah I also watched Magic Mike -- the same day as Life of Pi actually.
Magic Mike definitely 10/10. :shiny:
Will have to watch again...alone.
Most recent movie I watched was Tommy Boy. Goddamn that movie is still funny to this day. I love Chris Farley and that animatronic deer.
Tommy Boy is so good. The M&Ms part is the best scene.
shup up Richard
The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Beautiful movie, I really loved it. One of the better coming of age movies I've ever seen and it handled topics that can often seem really over-dramatic in movies (especially when teens are involved) so well. The acting was awesome and I don't really know how to describe it but just the general atmosphere of the movie was perfect to me. I felt a bunch of different emotions at various points through the movie and a couple of man tears may have welled up in my eyes when the little plot twist thing is revealed at the end. Overall one of the better movies I've seen in a while and Emma Watson continues to give me reasons to like her for more than just being adorable.
9/10
Iron Man 3
lolMandarin
Warm Bodies
The concept was really intriguing and the movie itself was pretty good. Definitely a cute idea that I think is just a little hard to execute, cause zombies are just not cute/romantic. Once the movie hit its stride toward the mid point it definitely got better and the dark comedy was done really well. I never did really laugh out loud at the comedy and I never found myself going "d'awww" at the romance side of the movie, but it was above average in both of those categories, and overall an enjoyable watch.
6.5/10
Just finished watching Spiderman 4The Great Gatsby. Pretty good adaptation from the book, but it really bothered me that they were playing modern music at the parties. Like, I'm pretty sure Jay-Z wasn't alive back in the 1920's.
Fat & Furious 6
It wasn't as good as I thought it'd be, but it was decent. I'm glad they brought back Letty, disappointed that Eva Mendes was in the trailer at the end of 5 but not actually in the movie.
Also.. Power Rangers Movie. XD Bad Acting & Cheesy Storylines at their finest.
EDIT:
I'm already critiquing Transformers 4. Optimus Prime has been a Peterbilt 379 for the last 3 movies and now it's a freaking Western Star. He looks -ugly- (my dad has a Pete 379, but with a custom sleeper on it instead of factory). Same paint job, ugly truck. I'm not happy. I'm also disappointed that Shia LeBouf is axed out 'cuz I really do think he's a great actor. But maybe Mark Wahlberg will be a pleasant surprise.
Seen a million times, but I felt an inclination to watch Snatch again tonight. 10/10, one of the best films ever created.
thanks quin
I watched Kes and Le Samourai.
Kes just about broke my heart. A real kick-in-the-teeth fillum. Good though.
Le Samourai was real good, give it a watch.
Thirteen - with Nikki Reed, Evan Rachel Wood, Jeremy Sisto, & Holly Hunter.
I've seen it a million times, but it kind of portrays how I was in my teenage years in a sense, though what I went through is nowhere close to the movie really.
I also have a huge crush on Nikki Reed. IDK why lol
Oh, I forgot to mention that I last saw a couple movies last week.
First off, I saw Les Misérables. It was pretty neat and I enjoyed the music and singing.
Secondly, I saw Tucker and Dale vs. Evil. It was really funny as heck. xD
This is the End
8/10
It was funny as smurf. Danny McBride is the funniest mofo alive.
The Hangover Part 3..
It was funnier than I expected it to be... Mostly due to Zach Galifinakis & Ken Jeong, though John Goodman was a pleasant surprise. I'm so happy he's getting back into acting (yes, I still watch "Roseanne" and still love it lol) and doing well with the parts he's played... Even though it's only been a couple (Flight w/Denzel Washington & this one) that I know of...
I just read this, but did y'all know that Ken Jeong was a Doctor of Internal Medicine before he started acting? His wife was the one who pushed him into his acting career. Smart lady. Ken Jeong is hilarious.
The Great Gatsby. I loved it as much as I thought I would.
The Purge
2/10
Dumb as smurf.
Also John Goodman has been actively working for years now. Check out Red State.
Oz
It was poorly written, the CG was was pretty bad, and the whole thing just felt extremely childish.
Story and characters 5/10
Monkey cuteness 9001/10
The Great Gatsby
Movie was really well-made. I don't know exactly how faithful it was to the original story but from what I can remember of the book it was pretty accurate. Soundtrack was 12/10 really really amazingly good.
Oz
It was poorly written, the CG was pretty bad, and the whole thing just felt extremely childish.
Story and characters 5/10
...naw, naw, naw. That's what hypo said. I admit Oz was childish and I was at times irked by Kunis' performance as greenie meanie, but I still found the film highly enjoyable.
Also saw Hansel & Gretel. Was this movie directed by Tarantino, it feels like a Tarantino. I don't really approve of the "plot twist", admittedly it made the main characters seem unique but I would have accepted their being simply capable.
I actually enjoyed Oz..
I wish they'd do a film production of "Wicked" though...
EDIT:
You're right about John Goodman actively working. I just meant that I'm glad he's doing well and is still in the game as an actor. I genuinely do think he's great at what he does. Same with Shia LeBouf. I've been a fan of his ever since he was on "Even Stevens".
Predators.
Good movie with the exception of the presence of Topher Grace. Maybe if the character had been portrayed by Elijah Wood or with Wood's characterization that made Kevin from Sin City so memorable.
Much Ado About Nothing
I loved this. It was truly a Joss Whedon film, a load of his great actors in it just being brilliant. It was so subtle in its humour and I just adored it. Amy Acker was on fire, as was Fran Kranz() and with a hilarious performance from Nathan Fillion and Tom Lenk too.
I just loved this, and I urge any of you Shakespeare fans to go see it too!
Man, I'm surprised so many people actually saw Oz. Did you guys pay money for it?
ROFLZ hell no, Miriel!
I downloaded that beesh.
I wanted to see it in the theater, but by the time I got the chance, it was no longer playing.
I rarely go to the movies. I fall asleep/get bored/really antsy. I like having the option of getting up and doing something else instead of sitting in the dark with loud speakers making me go deaf, surrounded by a million strangers I don't know laughing and talking loud and generally annoying me. Actually that's not entirely true. I'll wait like a month or two and go on a monday morning when I know the theater will be mostly empty.
Old Yeller - it almost amused me.
This is the End-
So funny, so very very goddamned funny! Please go see this or I might be forced to come abduct you to your nearest theater and force you to experience the joy that is this movie.
Infinity/10
Man of steel
i absolutely loved it!
i have never liked the superman films but when i saw this trailer i just had to see it becaus i knew this one wouldnt be the ´cheesy superman´.
i love it becaus its a more ´realistic´ story about superman
Django Unchained.
Nice nice nice.. gotta love that dry humour!
´are you sure?'
'yes im sure'
'are you really positive'
'im not sure'
'you are not sure this is him?'
'im not sure what positive is'
well.. u have to see that scene to laugh about it ^^
I have now finally seen Moonrise Kingdom. I can't say how this compares to Wes Anderson's other films as it is the first one I have ever seen, but I enjoyed it a lot.
I'm actually watching Life Aquatic as we speak. Unfortunately, I don't have any other of his movies. I'm planning on buying some more of his films as soon as I start having an income. I've been wanting to build up my movie library.
Life Aquatic is good trout!
The Last Exorcism Part II Unrated;
5/10-
It was more of an, "I feel bad for this poor sheltered girl' movie, than a horror movie for me. I appreciated the unbeatable evil side of the latter part of the story but I was largely let down by the amount of build-up throughout the first half and lack of showmanship at the end.
The 1st Last exorcism was the one where it ended up being all Blair Witch Project-y wasn't it?
Blair Witch Project...
Yes, it still flips me out. I love watching stuff like that during the fall around Halloween. Scariest Places on Earth, Ghost Hunters, yeah buddy.
Anywho.
Pain & Gain... I give it about a 7/10.. I thought it was gonna be funnier than it was. And was surprised that Rebel Wilson & Tyreeq (SP? .....'member!? Tamera's college boyfriend? Or whoever the smart one was?).. I also fell asleep, so I only remember bits and pieces of it.
I just watched Troll Hunter. It is probably one of my favorite found footage films now. It's so silly, but it's just really fun to watch.
Equestria Girls was better than I was expecting. Still would've preferred an actual "pony" movie, but y'know.
Watched Independence Day last night.
Late for my July 4th tradition, but worth it! I still think it's a great movie, and I'm shocked to learn there's a sequel in the making!
World War Z
i loved the movie!! it really has a great story to it!!
but on the downside: the 'next move' is a bit predictable. i found myself always being 1 step ahead of the movie and already knowing what he would have to do!
and Brad Pitt looks verry well for his age in this movie ^^
Despicable Me 2
Movie was legit funny. Those minion things were smurfing hilarious. Good movie to see completely wasted.
7/10 normally. 8/10 on something.
Interstella 5555
It's the full animation made alongside Daft Punk's 'Discovery' album. You might remember the music videos with the blue characters;
It's basically an hour long music video following the entire album, not a word is spoken in between. But surprisingly even without the use of words and with electronic beats in the background there are plenty of scenes evoking emotion. The animations are stunning, creative and a bit psychedelic. What surprised me most is the story; a very nifty balance between the fight against an evil record company, a love that is out of reach, and how music has both up and downsides keeps you interested the whole way.
The movie has a lot of creative, surprising twists and I really liked it.
8/10
Dogtooth
1/10
Terrible movie not because its bad cinematography or anything. It actually has really impressive shots and used its low budget really well. IT's the fact that the subject matter ofthe movie is so god damn disturbing. I was tricked into watching this thinking it was some artistic film. It's not. It's about a father who keeps his 3 kids at home and makes them believe the outside world doesn't exist and so he raises them like dogs. Its messed up. Also incredibly disturbing just like the premise of the story.
Cabin in the Woods! A+
I thought it was just fantastic. And I don't even like horror movies!
It's the Josh Whedon satirical horror/comedy one.
Recently, in order?
This Is The End - caught a break and was invited to go watch a preview advance screening at Sony Pictures in London was a damn good film, best after a couple of bevvies!
Man Of Steel - I liked it's more Nolan Batman trilogy overtones however it lacked in some aspects. I appreciate that they chose to show the man of steel with some limits and fight through Metropolis City. I still never understood the need DC has to invent fictional cities though.
Silver Linings Playbook - I love this film, it's amazing I don't care how soft that makes me sound brings back memories of Garden State and a lot more. Stella performances all around and I like the moral behind it.
I should quantify my comments about Superman Man Of Steel more actually. I meant the destruction of Metropolis caused by his battle. I also liked that they did not ignore the cost in human life someone with Superman's strength and powers could cause in such an event. It made a lot more sense and was grittier and more realistic which is what was meant by the reference to Nolan's Batman Trilogy which did the exact same thing.
I'm not sure I feel that it lived up to the exceptionally high level Nolan delivered to us in the Batman movies, I suppose as it is an origin story we will be able to see this develop dramatically in subsequent films I just hope that they continue to ask Nolan (and that he is willing) to assist on their films as a producer to help with the atmospherics. If done right DC could finally take Marvel's crown in regards to quality superhero films. At the moment though Man of Steel was relatively underwhelming.
Considering they're attempting to mimic Marvel's excellent Ironman, Thor, and Avengers films and do the Justice League, other characters such as 'The Green Lantern' need a new reboot if the grittier Nolan created DC universe is the one they wish to pursue. The description I'd give to the most recent Green Lantern movie is not particularly pleasant but I feel we can all arguably appreciate the fact that it just won't mesh with the way Christopher Nolan has set the Justice League of America to follow through.
Roger Rabbit - 10/10
I always forget how much I love this movie until I watch it again. I have an absolute sore spot for private eye movies and I haven't seen nearly enough them. Everything from the slapstick comedy to the typical LA PI scene to the weasels to situations like Roger handcuffing himself to Eddie in a moment of crisis to (SPOILER)the incredible revealing twist moment of Judge Doom as the killer of Eddie's brother it is all so, so perfect. Of course, Roger in himself is an amazing character, but it's everything about LA and Toon Town and all the additional characters that make this movie what it is. And Judge Doom and the weasels! Could you ask for a better villain and henchmen? Judge Doom absolutely smurfing terrified me as a small child. Absolutely petrifying.
I love this film because it's a Disney movie and there's a bunch of silly characters, many of whom are well-known, but also because of the serious adult tones in it. Otherwise a film noir of murder, lies and scandals in a big city and a man who's turned drunk since the death of his partner brother has to step up to solve it all in order to save the very toons he resents and inwardly blames as a whole for the death of his brother. Love it, love it.
Undoubtedly, my favorite scene is when Dolores says, "A toon killed his brother," and all the men at the bar turn around. "Dropped a piano on his head." And then they all turn back the other way.
"I'm through with taking falls and bouncing off the walls, without that gun I'd have some fun, I'd kick you in the-"
"NOSE"
"Nose?! That don't rhyme with 'walls!'"
10/10 for sure. Also one of the best rides at Disneyland, if you can make it through the screaming, crying, ungrateful masses of children after waiting in line for 45 minutes.
Going for Chinatown next now that I'm in an LA PI mood and might follow up with The Maltese Falcon after that!
oh man, it's been too long since I watched that film. Truly a classic.
Cherry Crush w/Nikki Reed.
7/10 - It's pretty slow going at first, but she does wayyyy better in "lower budget" indie flicks instead of garb like Twilight.
But. I have a major crush on Nikki Reed, so. Yeah.
Ashes of Time Redux by Wong Kar-Wai
I don't really like giving criticism, but this movie went from boring me to tears, to making me groan from how melodramatic it was, to blowing my face off of my face with how awesome the fight scenes were handled, and back again, and back again. It's a terribly inconsistent plot with no driving force or central question, but it's also beautifully shot and masterfully edited. It's a lot more like a poem or a painting than a novel. As long as you're expecting that (I wasn't, but in hindsight, I get it), there's no way you're not going to be moved by the film.
If you're a fan of martial arts movies, you may not like the lack of choreography. But the editing in the fight scenes was surprisingly experimental, and I think it was a gamble that paid off almost every time. The suspense during those moments was simply epic.
Roger Ebert's review is a little ignorant of the martial arts genre, but I think he gets the essence of the movie right. I just disagree with his 2/4 rating.
Finally watched Man of Steel
so much fail.
I watched Akira last night.
It was....interesting. It ran kind of long. It wasn't really my type of movie to be honest. I found some parts downright annoying. It kind of gave off the impression of trying too hard to get certain points across.
Overall it just wasn't my type of movie. Set in neo-tokyo with bike gangs and needless blood and gore and abuse and fights and some whiny kid who basically gets super powers. Needless destruction ever few minutes and stuff like things get blown up or crushed when they shouldn't. Like there was one scene where something fell on a tank and crushed it. Like right on it. When there was nothing for a good while on either sides. Its just destruction for the sake of destruction. The characters to me were not relateable or likeable. I honetly didn't care about what the outcome would be. I didn't care if any of them made it through or survived.
Just wasn't my thing. I can see it being enjoyable for some who like that type of genre more than I do.
Oh man, Akira is a great movie. I haven't seen it since I was a teenager, but I remember loving it.
Yeah, visually it's great and has some great aspects, but Akira doesnt' live up to all the hype around it. Really the plot is just a butchered mess, and when the movies over there really isn't an Idea of what exactly happened, or why any of it took place.
I also watched Akira recently. Not sure if I finished it. Kind of boring and melodramatic. I didn't realize how much it influenced Kojima's Snatcher, though.
I obviously quite like it, and think it makes sense. It's just a lot going on. :kakapo:
American Pie: The Reunion
Really silly, but really American Pie - I loved it, Phil and I had a proper laugh watching it as the humour was right up our street! 6/10
Double post mother pluckers.
Mama: We watched this last night, and Phil was being an ass and kept slurping his stupid lime drink in my ear. And there were moths in it and I didn't like the moths because they were just like DEATH DEATH DEATH.
It was good though, 7/10. Pretty scary. I hate the Mama noises. And then when it finished Phil was making the Mama noises and he freaked me out and made me really uncomfortable because he went to get my neck and I momentarily panicked and thought he was going to start being the Mama ghost again and it made me scared and I nearly shat myself. >.< He is anASS.
I actually saw the short film before the movie. The movie was okay ('cept for the fact I keep on calling the main character Jaime Lannister haha). The short film had a better ambience, I think. I remember screaming at the hallway scene :))
Last Movie Watched: Pacific Rim
I actually liked the whole thing, mainly because it had Evangelion and Gundam vibes :))
The Maltese Falcon - 9/10
These words first appear onscreen:
I loved the feeling of this film. I love the story, how it's complicated and how it twists and turns and how new characters emerge well into the running. I love that it's such a typcial LA PI film noir (even though it's set in SF); it fits the stereotype so perfectly. And Sam Spade is such a typical PI character - always with his wits about him, always concerned about the case, even when he appears to not be.Quote:
The 1539, the Knight Templars of Malta paid tribute to Charles V of Spain by sending him a golden falcon encrusted from beak to claw with the rarest jewels -- but pirates seized the galley carrying thie priceless token and the fate of the Maltese Falcon remains a mystery to this day.
It was so interesting hearing the streetnames and cross-streets and cities, knowing I've been to all of those places. Also, I loved hearing things said in this film like "Let's get to a phonebooth." It offers a clear separation between that decade and our current one. Hell, with the internet, PI jobs aren't even needed. I wonder if they even still exist or if they've long been extinct.
The music was wonderful. It very much reminded me of Ben-Hur and The Ten Commandments. I expected Charleton Heston to step into the shot at any moment.
Throughout the film, Sam is skeptical, unfeeling and seemingly fearless. He's slick. He wears double-breasted suits and fedoras. (SPOILER)He doesn't talk about Miles dying, stops anyone who tries to bring it up and seems to generally be unaffected by the death of his partner. He's not afraid of guns pointed at him several times. In fact, he shows no fear throughout the entirety of the film at all. He always seems to have an ace up his sleeve, but he isn't coy about it. He's classy and cool, he's sharp as a tack, and he puts the case and his sense of honor before his own interests and desires.
There is something I've been wondering in the hours since I watched it earlier, though. (SPOILER)I do wonder if he knew all along that Bridgid murdered Miles. If he did, why did he keep it going so long?
The absolute best moment in this film is at the end when he confronts her and she tries to deny it and then twist and turn words against him, but he's not having it. The reason it's just so goddamn good is because of how unfeeling he seemed to be about Miles the entire film - keeping her from saying words about Miles earlier, stopping others from speaking about him, telling Effie to immediately take down his name from the sign, etc. But it all boils back to Miles and his honor about how he was his partner. He kept a damn good poker face on the entire time and it surprised me.
I wrote up a review with a bit more depth to it here. No major spoilers, but there's quite a bit of a re-cap about the first twenty or thirty minutes.
God bless Humphrey Bogart.
Pariah
The director, Dee Rees came to talk to my Career Strategies class last year and mentioned this film. The concept seem interesting as there aren't that many acclaimed films about lesbians. I finally got around to watching it since it's now available On Demand. I will say that there wasn't much room for character development and I wish they explored her life and relationships a little more. I felt the relationship with the father could have also been delved in to more deeply, but I liked the conflict between the religious mother in denial that her daughter is a lesbian. All in all, it was just an okay film with pretty good up and coming actresses.
The Wolverine
Basically the same thing as every other X-Men film (except First Class) that I've seen before it, except now this time he's in Japan. The villain was dumb and they never really explained why he suddenly decided to want to be invincible and evil at the expense of everyone he supposedly loved. This isn't Breaking Bad wtf. As usual, remember to stay past the credits.
Last movie I've seen was Ponyo. Eh, it's not bad. Great animation, and cute story. Would I watch again? Probably not, but it's still enjoyable to watch.
The Lone Ranger 6/10
every joke failed its punchline.
the story was cute though, but the movie was not cinema-worthy.
so for everyone who does want to see this movie i advise you: save your money and download it when its on piratebay or something
It looks like Johnny Depp plays Jack Sparrow as a Native American.
I have a guilty crush on Armie Hammer, though. He looks like such a goddamned Disney prince.
The Good The Bad And The Ugly
Will never stop being in my top five.
He was the twins in the Facebook movie, wasn't he?
For Love or Money starring Michael J Fox. Snappy writing for a romantic comedy, it hit all the right notes for me.
Pain and Gain.
Not sure how I'm supposed to feel about it - like it's obviously a comedy...but it's based on real life incompetence, idiocy, greed, torture, and murder.
...so yeah weird. Would not watch again.
Just saw The World's End, and it was fantastic.
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
It went something like this:
First ten minutes: Music with no picture (yes this happened) and opening credits
Next thirty minutes: Production team shows off their special effects budget with hundreds of different shots of the Enterprise alternated with shots of Kirk looking emotional.
Next thirty minutes: Production team shows off their special effects budget when the ship takes off and runs into some sort of anomaly which it just so happens to take a really long time to explore.
Next thirty minutes: Cyborg chick shows up on board, nothing else really happens.
Final thirty minutes: The actual plot.
I give all the derping around at the beginning a 2/5 and the last half hour a 4/5 for a final score of 3/5.
Edit: Oh my god I just looked it up and it was originally the pilot episode for a new series. They just took the script and added in an hour's worth of special effects. I KNEW IT.
It's pretty much an accepted fact that odd Star Trek films are worthless and even Trek films are good until Nemesis came along. Abrams' Star Trek also bucked the trend.
Iirc, The Search for Spock was less worthless than some of the other odd Trek films, and Generations wasn't terrible, but I, V, and Insurrection were completely forgettable.
Interestingly there's a director's cut of the first film that apparently has a much faster pace. I haven't seen it though.
I agree with everything you said and also ugh Nemesis. Way to destroy that good trend, guys :zombert:
I'm still pissed off that that's how they chose to wrap up TNG. It was such a classic series and it deserved a better send-off than that :(
Last movie I saw was Epic (brought to us by the creators of Rio and Ice Age) my opinion, not bad not great either but I did enjoy watching it. The animation was simply breathtaking and the story was well done. If I had to give it a rating I'd give it a solid 8 :)
You gave a movie a bad rating because it had music at the beginning? I guess you haven't seen a lot of old movies. It's the music that plays while everyone takes their seats.
Not sure where you got that idea. Firstly I gave the movie an average rating, and secondly the reason I did that is because of all the stuff that happened in the first hour of the thing, not the first five minutes. Sillyhead. :)
I love old movies and have seen a very great deal of them, my dear! Casablanca is one of my all time faves.
Anyways I'm still waiting for my DS9 movie.
Hahaha you're gonna try to teach Pike about old movies? You do know that she's got a degree in that stuff, right? :p
Also sorry but Star Trek: The Motion Picture is 5/5 breddy good all dose incredibly long special effects shots that lovingly show the Enterprise are so great. Random Klingons for no reason and have nothing to do with anything? Check. AI that can't comprehend flesh-based life? Check. Kirk is kind of a jerk? Check.
Only thing missing were Lts. Arex and M'ress. And it's not like they can't Caitian in live action, there's a Caitian Admiral in The Voyage Home. Arex would be more of a challenge though I grant you.
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
ffffff you know I've seen this movie (and all the Trek movies) a million times but coming right off of TOS and TAS this just kicked me right in the feels. What a fantastic movie. One of the three best Treks for sure. Great pacing, great script, great characters, A++++ 5/5 bretty good
I watched The Avengers last night on Netflix. Good movie, overall!
Because you complained about it and then later said the derping lowered the score, I figured you considered the musical intro a part of the derping.
That's great. You seemed totally thrown for a loop by the music introduction. Ever seen Lawrence of Arabia? 2001: A Space Odyssey?
Hey, me too!
The last movie I watched was The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly.
My wife (watching it for the first time) felt that it was so cliche-ridden (largely by the cliches it created in the first place) that it should have been called The Good, The Bad, and The Obvious.
I've also watched a Korean movie called The Good, The Bad, and the Weird, which was far less anti-war and serious, and a lot more ridiculous.
Anyway, obviously a great movie, I still don't actually enjoy it as much as a Fistful of Dollars, though.
The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly wasn't cliche for its time. If you can separate it from the rest of the cliches (that it created, as you say), it's great.
Star Trek: The Search for Spock
Of the three 'bad' TOS Trek movies this is the best one I'd say. The overall plot is pretty daft and features the usual array of Vulcan Superpowers but the thing is actually pretty well executed and Shatner and Kelley especially both had a good deal of screen time that let them show some acting chops.
I can never see Christopher Lloyd as anyone except Doc Brown though so that was a thing.
I saw The Addams Family first so I only ever think of him as Lester.
Christopher Lloyd was also Judge Doom in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but you couldn't really tell it's him just by appearance.
1.21 gigawatts?!
Christopher Lloyd has really had a lot of iconic roles when you think about it. But Doc Brown is definitely the most so.
Basically all of this. Gonna give it a 4/5. Also Vulcans please, all your crazy mysticism ritual stuff is not logical.
IV tonight  my favorite one!
Not really by appearance but damn he's got a distinctive voice.
71 into the fire .. 7/10
its a korean movie about 71 south-korean students that have to defend a school against the invading north-korean troops in 1950. the school is a strategic point.
a good movie :)
Cabin in the Woods
7/10
A pretty good movie. Pretty hokey, but I expected that going in. I kept going "what the smurf" when weird trout kept happening that didn't make sense, but that is apparently what Joss Whedon wanted to happen. (SPOILER)I really, really enjoyed getting to see the army of nightmares. All of that trout was so neat, and the graphics and animation was so well done. It wasn't the best movie, but I enjoyed it. I enjoyed the weird twist to it and I enjoyed the ending. (SPOILER)I like it when directors break away from the fairytale ending where everything all goes the right way and it ends up smoothly and the guy gets the girl and everyone lives happily ever after. I like creative thinking, and I like alternate scenarios in which everything doesn't go right for once.
Gravity - 10/10
Words really can't do it justice. And I mean that literally. This is the kind of movie which can not be adequately described in words and absolutely must be seen to understand just how utterly amazing it is.
Mortal Inst.
The perfect example of what happens in a movie that isn't given the time to breathe. It just jumped from one scene to the next like it had ADD. All of the plot twists in the movie either came completely out of left field on account of lack of character development or you didn't care enough because of lack of character development. It was better than I thought it'd be given the premise, but it could have been LOADS better.
I've been on a movie kick the past few days. I'm gonna give some quick thoughts on the last few movies I watched.
1. Troll 2 Riff Trax - 4/5The movie itself has been one I've enjoyed since I first saw it a couple of years ago. This is probably one of my favorite movies when it comes to the so bad it's hilarious category. The Riff Trax doesn't really add too much to the movie, but it's still enjoyable for people who enjoyed Mystery Science Theater 3000. Rating based on my enjoyment: 4/5.
2. The Best Worst Movie - 3/5This is a documentary about Troll 2 by the main kid from the movie. The movie is both about the fandom and about where the cast was at the time of the filming of the documentary (I think it had been 18 years since Troll 2 was made? I can't remember for sure). It's extremely interesting, but also a bit depressing. If you are a fan of Troll 2 (or even if you just know about Troll 2), I'd say it's worth a look. If you don't know anything about Troll 2, though, then chances are you would get no enjoyment from this. I'd rate it at about 3/5.
3. Raising Arizona - 5/5This is the second Coen Brothers film I've seen (the first being True Grit). I knew nothing about this movie going into it except that Nicolas Cage was in it, and my friends have often said that it is the best movie he's ever been in. I have to say, his acting was excellent in this film, and that was a shock. The movie was extremely funny and I loved every minute of it. One of my new favorite films. 5/5
4. The Shining - 5/5I had seen this movie before and enjoyed it, but this is the first time I had ever seen it by myself without people talking and joking around throughout it. The first time I saw it, I just thought it was okay. But after seeing it again and getting immersed in the world, it's probably my favorite horror film next to Suspiria. I like the dream/nightmare like feel of this movie, and the setting is just so interesting to look at. I also really enjoy thinking about it after watching it, trying to piece together some of the mysteries within the movie. 5/5
5. INK - 3 or 4/5This is kind of a hard movie to discuss in the context of if others should watch it. It's very amateurish in a lot of ways (the acting can be spotty and it had a very low budget). The story can also be pretty confusing. That being said, I could personally look over all of those things and appreciate the bigger picture. I loved the story and themes within it. I enjoyed the characters. Also, few movies have touched me in a way that this movie has. For myself, I would say it's a 4/5 film. For other people, I should probably score it more at 3/5 because there are quite a few shortcomings to the film. Either way, it's a great low budget, scifi/fantasy film that I would highly recommend.
Pirates of the caribean: at strangers tide.
its been a long while since i have seen this movie.. problably when it was just released on dvd or something..
the fact that Elizebeth Swann and Wil Turner are Not in this movie makes the movie alot better in my opinion.
i just dont like those 2. they were good in the first movie but after that i stopped liking them. so i am glad that this movie is all about jack sparrow
Safety Not Guaranteed
4/10
You can't make an indie flick out of a time travel storyline. You just can't.
I love Aubrey Plaza, but she has no variety in acting skills that I have seen thus far in the several shows/movies she has been involved in. I really love her, but she is best fit for April Ludgate type roles and not somewhat serious roles like ones in this movie.
Pretty much what she said. I'd probably give it a 5/10 but with pretty much the same reasoning. It was mildly entertaining, but the script was a tad too unrealistic and the acting so-so.
Nick Miller was the best part of it, and I thought about giving it a 5 but I reconsidered.
World War Z:
As a movie - 4/10
As a pepsi commercial - 7/10
I dug it - great disaster movie
okay zombie movie
great pepsi ad
Also I just watched Zero Charisma.. Aside from the Millennium Falcon vs Enterprise part, So brutally depressing, barely about gaming, and the hipster vs nerd thing was not engaging.. :(
Thor: The dark world.
i inmediatly felt sorry for Loki, i can never truly see him as a bad guy, he is to cute for it ^^
i love how they keep referring back to the avengers in every movie of them like (SPOILER) Loki shapeshifting into captain America.. that made my day! (its a tiny spoiler, nothing important that will ruin the plot for you)
Tucker and Dale vs Evil
Hilarious!
9/10
Saw Ender's Game. Will spend the rest of my life wishing I hadn't.
I could go on for ages about everything that was wrong. In fact, everything was wrong with it. Everything. Somehow they managed to get the fact that it's about a boy and that it primarily takes place in space correct, and it's shocking that they actually got those two things right and didn't turn Ender into a girl like they did with Anderson. The only explanation for such an atrocity of a film would be perhaps if apes were behind the production. That's probably an insult to apes. I am almost certain they could have done a better job.
1/10. The 1 is for the irony of Harrison Ford's role and that fact that he was zipping around in space and blowing up ships as Han Solo thirty-five years earlier. Or a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away, whichever you prefer.
Atleast I got the satisfaction of knowing I was right about my gut feeling!
It's a shame it's not very good. I'll probably still see Ender's Game because my family wants us all to go watch it. I might enjoy it more just based on the fact that I don't remember the book very well aside from basic plot points. At the very least, I feel I can be certain that it won't be as bad as the movie adaptation they did of The Dark is Rising. That thing had everything wrong (setting, age of the main character, most every plot point, the gender of several people if I remember right).
Also, I just watched The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey Extended Edition. I'm one of the people who actually really enjoyed the movie when I saw it in theaters. Unfortunately, unlike The Lord of the Rings, the extended edition really didn't add anything to this movie. I think it actually threw off the pacing even more in some points. It's only about 15 more minutes or so, I think, so it's not too big of a deal. Still really enjoyable. The special features on it are just as good as The Lord of the Rings from what I've heard, though.
I watched X-Men: First Class for the first time. It was fun enough, even if I'm not sure how canon it was. I wanted more Charles/Rave and less Eric (I thought his actor was very bland). I loved seeing The Beast's actor in a sympathetic role for once!
I didn't really like how they connected Charles and Raven to one-another, and cleared up the timing issue (if there was one, I haven't read the comics) of her being a little girl in the 1940s (her cells regenerate so fast she'll still have the appearance of a teenager in 30 years, etc).
I did find the overall plot a bit bland. I wanted less of Kevin Bacon and January Jones, and more just focusing on the young versions of the characters we know and love. I couldn't care less about the X-Men I didn't know about, though.
If anyone has extensive knowledge of the X-Men world, can you tell me if this fits in with the canon/continuity? Especially the Professor X/Mystique bits.
It's a shame you didn't really like it. It's my favorite of any of the X-Men movies and I can't wait for the next one to come out.
I think I'd like it if it better if it's its own reboot and not a continuity of the other X-Men films. Like I said, I didn't hate it! I just think they kind of wasted time on characters that weren't important, and the Cold War has never been a period of time that's been interesting to me. And I just really didn't like Magneto's actor. But I did think it was fun!
But it is a reboot. It can't really be its own thing if it's building off of a story that it's preceding.
I'm normally not fond of prologue-type films, but I am excited to see where the next couple of films take it.
I didn't think it was. Especially since Hugh Jackman and Rebecca Romijn made cameo appearances, connecting the other movies to this one.
Different strokes, I guess.
I'll definitely watch the next one, though. :) I know that I'm in the minority on this forum, but I basically love anything Jennifer Lawrence is in.
Enders game. Oh boy, here we go.
Whole post contains spoilies from the movie
As a Movie
It wasn't awful. It felt really rushed. Also, it felt like they just randomly pushed relationships together for no reason. They used that kid from Hannah Montanna as Bonzo, which I felt was one of the worst castings possible. Ender's greatest battle and turning point is a fight with a midget. Which he cheats at. Seriously, the guy comes at him one on one and Ender makes himself slippery and gets away, then kills him. The biggest disappointment of the fight though was that Ender didn't just put his hand on Bonzos head and hold him away like that, with Bonzos arms flailing.
Also, why is it that by the end of the movie every black character is either saluting Ender or babying him, and none of the white guys do? I'm completely serious, at the end of the movie, Dap salutes Ender, who is now an Admiral, and then Colonel Graff has Ender sedated for no reason, and then makes Dap (played by a black guy) carry Ender around.
Ender's love(?) interest offers to give him private lessons out of the blue the first time she meets him.
Effects:
The special effects in the space battles and in the game were terrific. If there was a video game that looked that good out today, none of us would ever stop playing it. The Battle school design is pretty great. The caves that the Formics carved on the planet at the end look like a movie set from the days of bad science fiction. Santa vs the Martians anyone?
Music:
The movie literally never stops playing dramatic music. As if it knows that it has been reduced to key points of conflict in the movie and literally nothing else. It gets kind of annoying after a while.
Acting:
Petra go home. Whoever played Petra, please, you need a few more years of lessons, I felt like I was watching the Last Airbender movie again.
No one else except for Ender and Graff get enough time to warrant discussion, but I will say that I felt like the kid from Hannah Montanna was trying far to hard to get just the right amount of mean guy on his face.
Ender.... makes us feel nothing whatsoever. His emotional scenes don't make us feel anything since the only time in the movie he does anything other than disobey orders or kill teenagers is the first time he goes into the battle room.
Harrison Ford was Harrison Ford.
Pacing:
lol, next category.
Overall: I'll give it a 6/10. Pretty animation isn't enough to redeem the terrible pacing and the bad acting.
As a Movie Based on a book
Oh god. This was the worst adaptation. Maybe literally.
Instead of a proper review, here is a list of wtf were they thinking.
Why the hell is everyone 14?
Why the hell is Anderson a woman now?
Why the hell is Bonzo a midget, he's supposed to tower over Ender.
Why the hell is there a relationship between Ender and Petra, Petra is supposed to be dating Dink at this point.
Why the hell is the small asteroid now an Earth sized planet.
Why the hell is Ender promoted from launchy to soldier to commander to captain after one victory each
Why the bloody rotting infested hell is Bean not a midget. Seriously, guys, when Bean shows up in the book, he is 6, 3 feet tall, and a giant asshole.
Why the bloody hell didn't they make this a two parter, Part one is from the time Ender enlists till he becomes commander, movie two could be from commander to the end of the book. Then the actor could age like he does in the book.
Why did they announce at the beginning of the movie on the news that the humans are invading, in the book this was top secret information not revealed till the very end.
adaptation points:
0/10
Bugger off.
response
aaaah you have essentially pointed out everything that I found wrong with it. And I'm surprised you gave it such a high score! Well done articulating the complaints I had to make. I have a few in particular I'd like to add or elaborate on. I didn't feel like doing this originally because I felt it would take too much effort, but it's in my head now xD
- The fact that Anderson "goes soft" and tries to tell Graff that he's pushing Ender too hard and breaks down is appalling. Anderson is supposed to be such a great secondary character in the book, he's used as a means to show what a monster Graff really is, that he's a wolf in sheep's clothing with these kids. But this female Anderson! Why did they make her execute such a compassionate protest? Because she's a woman? That was all I could think about, and I found it pretty sexist. It was possible for her to behave the same way Anderson is written in the book, only as a woman. No, instead they had to make her compassionate toward the launchies and Ender. Why? It had to have been because she was a woman. The entire point of this school is to show no compassion and to not ever let Ender believe that help will come or that the pressure will ever let up. She violated all of that with her outburst.
- Which brings me to my next point. The fight with Bonzo. Supposed to be one of Ender's defining moments in Battle School, and a trademark of Ender that he finishes his enemies and he does it for good. a) Bonzo fell and broke his neck seeminly by accident and b) Ender rushed to him, sobbing over him and apologizing. Why the smurf would they make him do that? It takes away everything about Ender and his character.
- Petra is the best and I hate her. Hated her. There was no reason whatsoever for as much involvement in the story as she had. Can we also take a moment to piece our smurfing brains back together from the fact that Petra laid the final shot with the Little Doctor on the buggers? It wasn't Ender. Petra was the one who did it. Why. smurfing why. I'd like to know.
- Hated Dap. Next to Petra, he was the second worst. So awful.
- "buggers" is not used once and it freak me out. The term "formic" is referenced only in those paragraphs between chapters in which the IF are speaking, if I remember. No one actually calls them formics.
- Mazer Rackham. I so badly wanted to like Ben Kingsley, but I couldn't do it. Didn't like him one bit.
- Seconding the atrocious pacing. Additionally, the dialogue was not believable or natural.
- A two-part would probably be best, agreed.
- I thought the Freeplay was atrocious and the fact that they put the Hive Queen on smurfing Eros is a travesty. Honestly. How did any of that work? Answer: It doesn't. The whole point of Freeplay is that the buggers used it to analyze Ender and then to create a situation in which he was familiar with in order to communicate with them, and that they would do it far away from all of this on another unknown planet for Ender to find as an adult. How would they have been able to do that on Eros when it was wiped clean by marines decades before? There is no possibility that exists in which this was a logical move to make in the plot. Ridiculous.
I understand that the book is extremely internalized and many of it are writings about what's happening to Ender and what Ender is thinking. I understand it can be hard to write a script and a dialogue for situations like that. But come on. Come on.
X-Men: First Class is canon with the other movies and not a reboot, though it does retcon some things (mostly from X3 and the first Wolverine movie so who the smurf care?), which is why the next one involves the cast of the original movies, the cast of First Class, and some time travel.
And I'm looking forward to the next one because what could be sexier than Patrick Stewart, James MacAvoy, and Jennifer Lawrence in one movie?
And to answer your earlier question Sam, the Xavier & Mystique stuff from First Class isn't canon in the comics. But it was cool in the movies so who really cares?
I don't! I thought it was a unique take on things. I was just curious if it was from the comics or not. :)
I would have a threesome with James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence.
I'd have a foursome with the above named people. And I consider myself firmly heterosexual. It's just those two men are damn sexy, and I don't mind admitting it.
iron man 3 for the second time
it ages like fine wine i think way better this time around
less annoyed at the cliches cause i know they're coming
and more appreciative of how much tony loves pepper and how much she loves tony
The Wolverine.
So awkward and unnecessary.
Drag Me To Hell.
If you don't take it seriously then it's hilarious, especially with continuous amounts of gross stuff dumped on the main character. Not a classic but campy and fun all the same.
Law Abiding Citizen
Very nice, ending could have been a little better though.
7.5/10
(SPOILER)
I know we disagree on opinions about that story and I wouldn't have gone to see it even if they somehow made it into a film, but there was no reason in hell to put Bean in his launchy group and it violates yet another key point Ender's time in Battle School because it takes away the option to now pit Bean in his army. Ender subconsciously copying the methods of the teachers and then deeply struggling with that and feeling shameful about it is what helps him to turn his methods around, thus creating the most powerful army Battle School has ever seen. Including Bean in his launchy group took all of those possibilities away.
Additionally, I would have liked to see more of the impact that the two vs. one army. ALSO I JUST REALIZED I don't think I saw Dink Meeker anywhere! Now I'm really mad.
He was the random black guy petra talks to the first time Ender meets her. I thought dink was Belgian or something in the books.
(SPOILER)Yes, they threw away another huge part of Ender's developement by putting Bean in his launchy group, almost as big important as Ender beating down Bonzo in the original book.
I don't think I noticed him through my blinding rage.
I feel your pain. In the book, Dink is just as important if not more important than Petra, and in the end, they replaced him and Hot Soup with Bernard. Ugh.
Edit: I just looked it up, in the book, Dink is dutch.
I kept wanting to yell at the screen the entire movie.
Why couldn't Peter Jackson have done this instead of Gavin Hood?
Then again, I don't think I need any more Radagast the Browns.
Pacific Rim was finally in the Red Box so I got to watch it. It was smurfing awesome. I got the main theme stuck in my head.
Anvil! The Story of Anvil
This documentary is incredible. It tells the story of (you'll never guess) Anvil, a metal group that served as an inspiration for a lot of highly successful Rock bands (Guns n Roses, Jethro Tull, Metallica, etc) but never were able to "hit it big" themselves.
The film chronicles the lead singer/guitarist and the drummer, who remain best friends at age 51 and have not given up on the dream of becoming rock stars. I almost cried during it, to be honest. How they have the will to continue pursuing their dreams in the face of countless setbacks and disappointments is beyond me. Even if you don't like the type of music this is an incredible story of the triumph of the human spirit.
9/10
Olympus has Fallen - Great start filled with action and suspense, but somewhere in the middle it started to lose my interest and fall apart. 6/10
Now You See Me - I liked the tricks and learning how they were done, but wasn't crazy about the rest. I that the ending was a joke, and felt like more of a cheat than a magic trick. Maybe I was just tired and I should re-watch. 6.5/10
We're The Millers - Just another crude adult film that is sorta like The Hangover in its humor. If you like that sort of thing then I'd suggest it...and I do. I was laughing my ass off a few times. 8/10
The Wolverine
I liked it more than the first one and the cliffhanger was good but the movie left some questions. But that's normal, it is not supposed to be serious.
Thor 2: I thought it was miles better than the first one and it was good to see more of Asgard this time around. Loki pretty much got all the best lines in the movie, which isn't surprising with how popular the character became since Avengers. Only setback is the villain, despite being played by the 9th freaking Doctor, is forgettable and they could have done more with him.
The Odd Life of Timothy Green
I rolled my eyes at this when it first started. Normally, I like Jennifer Garner but in the beginning she seemed so to overact pretty badly, and I wasn't so fond of the beginning in general. But Timothy reminded me so much of my little sister who has asperger's and I began to find myself enjoying the movie because of him. And then Jennifer Garner stopped being weird and I liked it a lot more.
Felt like a movie for kids, but I was still pretty touched by the ending. 6/10.
World War Z
It was... OK. Just a watchable zombie romp with a decent cast. I still found it hard to fathom how Brad Pitt's character remained alive throughout the entire movie. He literally should have died fifteen times. No-one is that lucky. No-one. I did like the way they managed to deal with the contagion in the end. As zombie flicks go though, there are better ones out there.
7/10
Stitches
It's about a clown (British comedian Ross Noble) who gets killed at a kids part and comes back for revenge several years later, it's a proper homage to classic slasher movies and some of Noble's one-liners are hilarious.
Solid 8/10 for me.
Tangled 9/10
this movie is genius!
i love the characters so much!
im in love with this movie
Her
I can't even explain the effect this movie had on me without feeling gutted.
So good. Best film experience I've had in a long time.
I watched Argo last night and was thoroughly impressed. It's a pretty amazing story and I can't believe it actually happened. The style and costume was perfect for the 1980 setting. I thought they sensationalised the ending to make it super-tense but overall I thought it was excellent.
Argo smurf yourself.
9/10
Watched Thor the dark world yesterday and I liked it like all the other Marvel universe movies from last few years. I just dig these superhero movies with their sense of humor (Thor putting Mjolnir on the rack, or the Mjolnir flying across universe forth and back befoe finally getting back in Thor's hands lol). Can't wait for next marvel movie.
8/10 for thor the dark world.
Perks of Being a Wallflower
Charlie reminded of me... except I never worked up the courage to go and do stuff with people.
--------
Justice League: War
I didn't like Superman and Green Lantern's attitudes or Wonder Woman's naivete and felt that Cyborg's new origin story was a bit of a cop-out going the way of Young Justice. Still, a pretty good movie nonetheless. I liked the mid-credits stinger (Ocean Master). I hope for a sequel.
Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2
It was cheesy as smurf, but it was a children's movie so that was to be expected. And it new it was cheesy and had some generally very funny moments.
Her
9/10
I love Spike Jonze.
Best Man Holiday
4/10
Felt like a Tyler Perry movie and that's basically an insult. Way to be melodramatic. I think the people who liked this liked it more for nostalgic reasons.
American Hustle
6/10
Quippy dialogue but I felt the over the top fake Jersey accents brought me out of the movie. It was also mostly underwhelming. Bale was good as usual. And this film could have done without Amy Adams and her creepy eyes. I found myself trying to laugh rather than actually laughing. Louis C.K. parts were the best.
Blue Jasmine
7/10
God this was depressing. Cate Blanchett played the hell out of this role though.
Don Juan
8/10
I thought the dialogue was true to life and so were the Jersey accents. Take notes, American Hustle. It was a pretty funny and enjoyable movie.
Fruitvale Station
6/10
Could have been a short film and been equally effective. It probably should have just been 20 minutes long. The pacing was too slow and you could tell they were forcibly trying to drag things out to make it feature length. The good thing is that it was well acted. Felt true to life and the actors were subtle enough for me to feel like these are people I know in my own life.
Oblivion.
I tried watching this the other night but I missed the exposition at the start and had no idea what was going on.
I watched it again this morning and I actually thought it was pretty good. It looked fantastic and I thought the plot developed really well. I would have liked to see someone else in the main role. Tom Cruise is just one of those actors who plays himself really well. I can never distinguish him from any of his films.
It was great to see Jaime Lannister pop up for a while in something else too.
8/10
Oblivion was all right. Though I did figure out the entire plot with the exception of (SPOILER)the clones within maybe half an hour if I'm being generous. Once I had that tidbit every single thing fell into place in my brain. I think I watch too much sci-fi. I'm not surprised by a lot these days.
He was really good in Collateral. Though I suppose in that he just played a crazy homicidal version of himself. But it was the least Tom Cruise like he's been while giving a good performance. Aside from Tropic Thunder of course.
The Fairy
A French film about absolute nonsensical random troute. 0/10. Worst thing I have ever seen in my entire life.
I hate watching movies at family get togethers. They are always terrible, terrible, poor choices.
The Lego Movie
Everything about this movie is awesome.
No, but seriously, hilarious superficial humour, clever surface plot and interesting deeper themes.
Spaceship.
Reading a review of the movie 'Her' here so I downloaded it and watched it.
9/10
It was kind of depressing but the end brought a tear to my face and a smile. The soundtrack is also nice, love Arcade Fire.
Anchor Man 2
7/10
It was alright. Wasn't that funny. Got goofy at the end.
Daylight, a disaster movie starring Sylvester Stallone as Kit Latura, a disgraced former New York City Emergency Medicial Services (EMS) chief who tries to save survivors trapped inside the Holland Tunnel.
It was not good.
Amazing Spider-Man 2
Need to rewatch it because we got crappy seats in the cinema. Film was good, music was better, score was AWESOME. Hans Zimmer and Pharell. Can't beat it.
Watched Frozen on the plane back to the UK. I did think it was very good but I'd expect nothing less from Disney. I don't think it quite lived up to the hype though. Anna and Olaf were the obvious highlights. I did like the song Let It Go but again I expected it to blow me away more than it did. God damn you, hype!
Anyway, I much preferred Tangled. 8/10.
In an attempt to make myself feel more macho after giggling at a princess and a magical snowman, I then watched Lone Survivor. It was pretty brutal in parts, I'm not a huge fan of Mark Wahlberg but the rest of the cast were excellent. I know it was based on a true story but I didn't enjoy some of the injuries they sustained. It gave me a lot of respect for the special forces even if certain parts were embellished from the original story.
I give it a 7/10.
Joss Whedon's Much Ado About Nothing
8/10
A bit confusing in the beginning, but I ended up loving it. I loved seeing all of the recurring Whedonverse actors. It bugged me that Nathan Fillion is listed as a main player when has such a minor role, but he was hilarious.
Would recommend!
Takashi Miike's The Great Yokai War
6.5/10
Miike's take on a live-action Miyazaki film, essentially. Loved the very extensive use of Japanese mythology. I enjoyed the movie overall, and there were quite a few laugh-out-loud moments that weren't lost in translation. Unfortunately, the b-movie special effects and over the top goofiness kept this from being as poignant or moving as a true Miyazaki film.
X-Men Days of Future Past was...
Ten percent luck, twenty percent skill
Fifteen percent concentrated power of will :stare:
Five percent pleasure, fifty percent pain
And one-hundred percent reason to remember the name :doublecolbert:
:up::up:
The Wolf of Wall Street
8/10
I really enjoyed it. Leo nailed it, as per. :jess:
I had never seen As Good As It Gets before tonight. That movie gave me a lot of feels, oh wow. I am not a fan of little dogs, but holy christ on a bike that dog was just about the cutest little thing I've ever seen.
The awkward head-slapping moments were at times a bit too awkward fand uncomfortable to me. I couldn't understand if they were trying to convey that his character has Asperger's as well as his OCD ailments or if he was just socially clueless. Not really a big Helen Hunt fan and I didn't love her character, but I thought it was good how well she stood up for herself throughout the entire film. I'm also not really a fan of Greg Kinnear, but he did pretty well, too.
Jack Nicholson is just a peach, though. I love it when he puts on that crazy smile of his and you see this glimmer of insanity in his eye and all of his other crazy roles like The Joker and Jack Torrance and Frank Costello flash before you for just a moment. I'm going to be so sad when that dude dies.
7/10
Maleficent.
With the exception of some overacting in one battle, I thought it was an overall enjoyable experience and a good retelling of the classic Sleeping Beauty tale from Maleficent's point of view. Angelina Jolie was great and it even put the last comedy I saw to shame since there was more funny bits in this movie that didn't feel contrived.
I enjoyed Sharlto Copley as the king and Imelda Staunton as a fairy.

Click
I like it better than most people do
That's actually one of Adam Sandler's movies I think a lot of people like! I wasn't a fan, but you're in the majority (from what I know)
The Lady in the Water
I think a lot of people dislike this movie (not unlike shion with Click!) but it just really touches something inside of me and I lose it. So beautiful.
I guess its just people I know personally then xD They all haaaated that movie. I thought it was sweet. The acting was terrible, but the message of the movie was a good one
Click was pretty dull and depressing, I thought. The premise was actually excellent but the execution was poor.
Yeah, Click got sad and depressing damn quick.
I forgive it for having Kate Beckinsale.
The Rover
8/10
I've said this before, but it reminded me of a modern-day Of Mice and Men with Robert Pattinson playing the idiot sidekick. Guy Pearce does a fantastic job playing a man scorned after car thiefs steal his car which holds a curious value to him. This is not a post-apocalyptic movie. It's a movie of what Australia would be like if it were a third world country and after a huge economic collapse. This is the same director of the Animal Kingdom which I heard was also good and will check out.
The Battery
10/10
Like the best zombie film I have seen in a long, long time. The subgenre is so overworn now, but this film is a really interesting take on it, more of a road movie than a horror, although definitely a movie for horror fans, too. None of the scenes were really planned as far as I know, it's pretty arty and very well made. Jeremy Gardner both directs and stars in as one of the protagonists. Great stuff!
A documentary on Netflix about Russian mail order brides. Was actually not bad. Wasn't overly long and was informative enough. One guy though just bugged me
This guy is like 100 lbs overweight and he gets a Russian mail order bride and says "American women her age don't take care of themselves. They're like 50 lbs overweight."
REALLY
REALLY!?!?!?!?!
