My thought when I read it today was "Finally!".
There have been speculations concerning his sexuality forever. Hopefully he will be able to live an open and fulfilling life, now that his "secret" is out.
This isn't a surprise really. But it's still not a big deal imo. Unless you are a woman who was madly in love with him. The news might dampen your spirits a tad then.
This just in: Ricky Martin confesses that he also hasn't been relevant for 10 years, and that this is just a ploy to get people to talk about him again.

Well, some people speculated for quite some time, but they couldn't confirm it unless he said so himself, which only now he did. At the same time, he flirted with many girls, which hinted otherwise, although they still speculated.
As with anyone who comes out, my response is, "So what?" It doesn't change my opinion of you as your sexual orientation doesn't mean anything to me.
You're right; I still like his music. Personally, I didn't think he was gay because he had a lot of girls in his songs and music videos.

I can't remember witnessing or hearing about him flirting with girls, with the exception of you talking about it. If he was flirting with girls it's probably safe to assume that he was doing it to affirm his "sex icon" status and sell more records. Like I said before, a guy singing about guys and who has guys in his videos isn't going to have as big of a fanbase as he would if he sang about girls. Do you remember girls from elementary school? Oh yeah, I read this in the metro and I was thinking "Didn't we already know?" But it was brave of him and I feel exactly the same towards him, why should I care? He seems like a nice guy and I just hope people don't judge him because of his sexual orientation.
Apparently he kept it quiet because he was told by his friends and family that it could hurt his career in it's early stages.

It's called awareness. The actions people take usually indicate to others the type of person they are. The reason Ricky Martin's homosexuality announcement was expected is because the actions he took early on in his career indicated that he was probably less than heterosexual.
