Default A mystery unsolved for years.

For years I've been wondering what instrument the Game Over tune is played on. Who can tell me what it is? Because I want one of those

I wouldve said it was a harpsichord. Especially since every note is the same volume (i think)

It sounds like a cymbal either played veeeery quietly with a soft mallet drumstick, or a gong that's digitally modified into a more spacious sound. Those are my guesses.

What instruments were used for Final Fantasy X OST - Wandering Flame - YouTube ?

There's definitely an organ in there, and maybe some kind of flute. But everything else is still a mystery to me. Violins maybe?

I never knew the harpsichord and claribel were the same intrument. I've only known it by the former. Nice.

I hear an organ and strings, maybe a saxaphone of some sort at the 1:00 mark. But the background is too thick for me to make out the individuals instruments of the ensemble

I'd say it's a harpsicord. But the instrument your friend mentioned is closely related. It's similar to the piano, but instead of a complicated system of tiny hammers banging on the strings, a little piece of metal pulls them. That's why the sound is more metalic and much more subtle than that of the pianom. This is also why all the sounds are so short, while in the piano you can extend their duration.

I always thought it was just some extra added in sound effects, but I am probably wrong here. It's crazy the things instruments can do.

The things you learn in the FFX forum, eh? I had no idea myself!

As for the Wandering Flame - I always thought it was a saxophone in that particular song.

It sounds like a bassoon to me, but I could be mistaken.
